Any current or recent players known for their volleys?

The other day I was playing at a clinic and the coach said my partner was known for his volleys. I asked if his middle name was Rafter or Edberg and he said "who"? The coach laughed and said I was dating myself.

Are there any current or more recent examples I could use for players known for volleying?

A number of doubles players come to mind: Leander Paes, the Bryan brothers, Cara Black, Roberta Vinci & Martina Hingis (singles & doubs) and others.

For ATP players known primarily for singles: Roger Federer & Michael Llodra are often regarded as outstanding volleyers. Other top volleyers include Mardy Fish and Radek Stepanek.

Also very decent: Rafa Nadal & Andy Murray.

Llodra still plays? Wow!

Stepanek was a terrific volleyer, though it's not his feature he was best known for. Older brother Zverev also a fine volleyer.

He was best known for being the ugliest man on the entire ATP Tour and at the same time getting to date Hingis, Kvitova and ultimately marrying Nicole Vaidisova

Only because King Krygios doesn't have his Wimbledon ranking points :(
Kyrgios is an excellent volleyer, but not on Fedal's level.

His volley performance against Daniil impressed me though. The guy is insanely talented.

The coach isn't much of a coach if he blows off an ATG like Stefan and a great player like Rafter. Is someone dating themselves if they mention Laver? McEnroe? Borg? He should be teaching his pupils not just how to play tennis but to respect and learn about legends of the game.

Nick has pretty good volleys but it's hard to say if he's known for them, especially when his serve exists.

You'd probably have a good shot just looking at serve-and-volleyers like Lopez, Stepanek, Llodra, etc.

Jack Sock has also impressed me with his net game but he doesn't come up as much as those others, except for in doubles of course.

Man, I love Rafa, and he is just a magician with his racquet…but a goat volleyer…not sure if serious? Compared to todays field maybe he stands out, but I’m just not seeing it.

Lopez, Mischa Zverev maybe? I don’t think even these compare to Mac or Pete.

I agree, it's sad sometimes. Here in Germany I heard coaches talking about Edberg and even Becker as kind of "badminton players" who shouldn't be any kind of role model for today's game. And in my local club we got a new coach last year who expects anyone to play a two-handed backhand if he/she even wants to be coached by him.

Thiem said he always feels like the last time Rafa missed a volley was 5 years ago. LOL.

Last 20 years or so Rafa is only player who is not afraid to venture to the net on clutch points.

Llodra was the last genuinely good volleyer of note on the ATP singles tour

he is technically average, just has good awareness of when to approach

great drop volley though

You are not a volleyer if you feel like Rafa is only an average volleyer.

He's got the 1st class reflexes and quick hand. That's why he is a true volleyer.

I am definitely a volleyer and I can tell you he is technically average (aside from his droppers)

he rarely hits a bad volley, but that is mostly because he approaches intelligently

Rafa’s volleys were viewed as a relative weakness back in the early part of his career. Pretty funny to see so many exalting him as the best

He's constantly working on every aspect of his game. Unlike other "greats" that can't be bothered to improve their overhead smash ;)
