With his QF match set with Shapo, any Fed/Djoko here actually wishing Nadal goes all the way?

I do and here are my reasons:

For me its simply because he's the player whom I like best among the contenders remaining. IMO the GOAT debate is kinda moot. Yeah, he'd become the guy with the most slams, like Roger was for a while, but that debate will continue anyway until these guys are retired (and even beyond!)

Practically though I don't think Nadal's favorite (Meddy is in great form) but even so, it'd be kinda cool to see him win another AO title after more than a decade since his first and only one...

Where do you fall on this? Vote and discuss.

I want the winner of the Rafa/Shapo QF to win my preference would be Shapo. Also would love Monfils but that's not happening cuz he's not fit.
El Shapo has time to spare; 'Oldal' does not and that is why the Canadian player should be "generous" with the Spaniard and give him at least 60 unforced errors and 10 double faults so that Bull still will have enough energy left in the rest of the tournament to nibble on the Australian Open trophy for the second time.

It's completely understandable if most Fedovic fans DON'T root for Nadal. Big 3 fans are obsessed with this:

Slay man. Yeah it really would be nice for him to get a much deserved 2nd AO after losing 4 finals.

I want to see a GOAT race again. so yea. I don't want to watch Djoker just run away with it. The only thing keeping people's interest is the GOAT race. No one cares about Medvedev. His game is as boring as watching paint dry. When the Big 3 retire, most of the remaining tennis audience will too

A true GOAT Race can only be rekindled with Federer racing back to win slams like he did in 2017-2018, since that is not possible now, I guess the race is almost over.

On reddit you'll see plenty of Fedal fans who are mostly Fed fans that are openly saying they are rooting for him, now whether or not you believe them is up to you lol.

No Djoko fans want him to win, although I could be wrong as there is at least a couple of reasonable Djoko fans on here.

There was not a single " reasonable Nadal fan " who wanted Djokovic to stay in Australia and not get deported ...
And that is fine .

Funny you used the word " reasonable " here , after what has happened just one week back . :-D :-D :-D

Yes because it will give Djokovic even more motivation to give Nadal a huge beatdown in his own backyard in May/June this year and level up the slam count. And yes he will get vaccinated if he has to.

Medvedev looked crap vs. Kyrgios, and it exposed how poor his net game is.
And Nadal has never needed to be in great form to beat Medvedev.
Some of Nadal's worst form was at 2019 London, and he still beat Medvedev.
And Nadal hardly played in 2020 and still had match point in the 2nd Set vs. Medvedev at London.

Rafa is clay GOAT, clearly. But he will likely never be overall GOAT.
Federer/Djokovic will never be GOAT, so if Nadal finishes with the most slams then he's got the biggest prize in tennis.
Actually there is no chance of tennis ever having a GOAT, since there is no GOAT ranking system, no GOAT trophy, and the fan bases are way too split for the tennis community to ever get behind one player.
So the number of slams you win is the only way to elevate yourself ahead of the pack, because nobody will ever be awarded some imaginary thing called "GOAT".

Great stuff (y) This is kind of how I felt when Fed ran away with the 2019 Wimbledon SF. I was upset as a Nadal fan but supporting Roger in the final.

Have to say I've really come to respect Djokovic for his stand on medical freedom and against government insanity. If Federer were to make a run anywhere, I'd root him on as long as Rafa wasn't against him.

I think we've reached the stage where we realize these guys won't be around much longer and it's fun to see them go far.

Yeah look this AO is depressing, because we’re finally seeing what it’ll be like when they’re all gone.

I don't think that winning this tournament would have the same level of significance for him as it would have in other years.

Djokovic is not playing in the Australian Open this year and it is impossible to look past that.

Given the fact that Nadal has never defeated Djokovic at his best slam (the Australian Open) it really doesn't matter if he wins.

He would still be ranked well below Djokovic in the GOAT debate.

In the last seven years I'd been more of a fan of Fed. Before that it was Sampras. (and I'm still using the kps88 currently even though Sampras after only a season in his post retirement, ditched it for a Babolat(!)).

But Nadal, has been plenty respectable to me, and a laid-back professional guy. Even funny in his idiosyncrasies. On the court he gives a good competitive performance with his famed intensity and model sportsmanship, but doesn't whine smashing racquets at netposts when things don't go his way, or disregard the linespeople like carelessly whacking balls in the general direction of being dangerous to linesladys' throats. He humbly skips slams when things aren't aligned , even with consideration for covid and people in general.

Yes, maybe it's fated for Fed that he won't win the slam race with his continued bummed out knee. And his 40-15 nerves curse. But now I'm entirely fine with Nadal wining the race. Even though Fed is currently my favorite (non-retired) atp player with his game and style.

A hundred years from now, the opinions today of incensed fans of the big 3 won't matter. Future generations will look at the scorebook, and see who had the most gs wins listed, and that remarkable unprecedented # of FO wins. So it does matter in the future for "goat-ness", even though our current generations may disagree all over it.

Seems like there are way more Fedr fans that will be OK with Nadal winning. Fedr fans have had years to brace themselves for someone passing him in majors, so they've learned some acceptance. By comparison, most Djoker fans will not take it well. The salt will flow. They fully expected Djoker to already have won his 21st major. With Fedal watching together from their old age home, the path was clear for Djoker to vulture the 2021 US Open. Instead, their idol got humbled by Med.............Then he got humbled by the Aussie Government.........Now here comes the most humble of them all, Humbalito, to vulture the 2022 Aussie Open/set the majors record. Brutal.

I’d say most Federer fans will be keen on anyone but Nadal now that Djokovic is out of the picture. But if they must choose then they will go with Nadal because it gives them the room to say that despite having 21 slams, Nadal”s resume is still not as complete as Federer’s. With Djokovic, it’s pretty much out of the question.

Big Fed fan, hopefully Nadal doesn’t win it. But on one hand it would prove to all the Fed haters that stats alone don’t mean anything, and maybe they’ll finally understand why Fed is the GOAT
