The shot clock should be electronically started. Why does the umpire need to have this unwanted influence on the match outcome? Now that it is all electronic line calling, there are no over rules or judging if someone had a play on the ball. All an umpire has to do is keep score, tell the crowd to be quiet, start the shot clock and warn Kyrgios for swearing. Pretty easy job.
Agreed, only masochistic people would want to keep umpires who make frequent mistakes and let their personal biases affect the results of sporting events. It’s even worse in football (soccer) but bad enough in tennis.Need to just get rid of them, not because they’re bad, but for their own good. The 90’s born players, especially late 90’s, are lunatics. Psychopaths who’d probably be in jail if they weren’t professional athletes.
With the advent of machines and technology that can call lines, there is also a technology that can most definitely call the score. Umpires are just there to enforce stupid code violations. Half of the umpires let players take dumps on court with no warning, the other half codes players for sneezing. There’s no consistency.
Just let the players do what they want. Id love to see two players scrap it out hockey style.
Umpires are these lunatics’ punching bags when they’re losing and upset. Take ‘em out of the firing line.
Khachanov said it best when Adel Nour was making error after error in a match: “What are you here for? To call the score?! We can call the score! P*ss off!”
Exactly! It would also remove that annoying high chair which blocks the view from the stands!![]()
