Any opinions on my hybrid set up???

So I just ordered Yonex poly pro and technifibre x-1 biphase.
Should I put the Yonex poly in mains or crosses?

Which will produce better tension maintenance?
Which will produce more power?
Which will produce more spin?

Any thoughts, opinions appreciated

YPTP/X-1:
More durability

X-1/YPTP:
More power
More spin
More comfort

Anything with a poly in it will not have good tension maintenance. There are some good poly exceptions though.

Thanks for reply!
I would have thought putting the yonex polys in the mains would achieve more spin?!?!?!

Most of the spin from poly comes from it being very low friction. Using it in the crosses will allow the mains to travel more easily and give you more spin.

according to this there must be no difference if polys are mains or crosses.

and regarding this hybrid - what advantage do you expect comparing with full poly set?

thanks

I'm experimenting with hybrids now. I'm going to use the same setup and switch the mains/crosses and see if there's any difference.

My experience with poly/multi - multi/poly hybrids is that poly in the mains always provides more spin.

The best setup for spin I've found is to string the multi crosses 2~3lbs lower than the mains.

BiPhase is a bit expensive for crosses though.

It's better for a rough main to deflect along a smooth cross than the reverse setup. Rough crosses damage the mains and decrease the amount the mains can move to impart spin on the ball. I can't comment on YPTP in particular as I haven't used it. But X-1 would make a better main than cross, as it has a pyrogene lubritec coating that is a little gummy and oily.

I should have waited on this comment, but...
strung my Yonex AI98 with Yptp 1.20 mains and X1 1.24 crosses 26.5/25 kg (same tension I ve used for Yonex\Yonex setup)
first impression is "where did the power gone"? very significant difference. I dont say I cant live with this but cant find my game at the moment.
currently , after 1.5hrs play I dont see any benefits of this hybrid comparing to poly\poly

do you think if I change X1 to mains it will be totally different? or concept will remain the same?

thank you

Softer strings need higher tensions in a poly hybrid. I string multi crosses 5 lbs. higher than the poly mains, sometimes only 4 lbs. higher if the main string is shaped. This will give you a much more consistent string bed with better performance overall. For a wider sweet spot, you can cheat down on the cross tension a bit, but this will compromise control.

But I would still use X-1 in the mains because of its coating.
