Are there any pro's using kevlar strings as a hybrid, if so who and what's their set up?
I haven't really heard of any.
I think Agassi did for some time during his career.
yuppers, i think it was toalson leonia 66. i'm not really sure at which point he got away from it (if he used it until he discovered lux)
^^^ignore, that's nylon...heck, i dunno what particular kevlar it was!
here's a thread that talks about agassi's alleged kelvar setup, now that i've butchered it.
From what was said at the time, Ashaway kevlar...
I thought Aggie used kevlar... but didn't he string it at an ungoldly high tension?
I've got a list of what the top 18 pros used in 1992:
Agassi used Kevlar in the mains and gut in the crosses, 68 lbs.
Ferreira used Kevlar, 72 lbs.
Gilbert used something called Matex, 58 lbs.
Costa used Polystar, 52 lbs.
Courier used cheap Wilson synthetic gut, strung high.
Everyone else, like Lendl, Sampras and Edberg, used natural gut.
Since I was breaking cheap strings back then, I tried Kevlar a few times. It tore my arm off, of course. So I switched to soft multi's.
Agassi used Ashaway crossfire II earlier in his career.
The ones mentioned are all I can think of as well--Agassi being the most notable. Kevlar is great for use in calibrators however.
