Any way Fish beats Fed tomorrow?

I say no...

First let me say that I really enjoyed watching Fish throughout the tournament. He seems to be playing on top of his game and is finally healthy. Also I think he is a hell of a guy personally and I wish him all the luck for the remainder of his career (since I assume the bad luck already ran its course).

That said, Mardy does not match up well against Fed for the following reasons:

1) Movement - if you half a step slower then average guy on tour, Fed will expose that mercilessly. I was really surprised Nalbandian didn't do it today as Fish was able to flatten out his forehand and go after the ball early in the rallies. But against Fed it's going to be a little more difficult. Too difficult on average.

2) Fish has a very nice, natural backhand that can do a lot of damage. But it is flat and that is something that doesn't really bother Fed. Fed's backhand performs much better against such stroke as short backswing will allow him to redirect the ball at will.

3) Fed plays with much more variety than Nalbandian, which will not allow Fish to find a nice grove on his forehand. He will have to contend with short slices to the backhand and big loopers to his forehand. Fish on a run is "fish out of water"...

4) I don't see any way Fish can win forehand to forehand cross court rallies. Mardy put some quality time with the coaches to make it a solid stroke, but it really looks somewhat awkward. It worked surprisingly well against Nalby, but I will be really surprised if it holds up against the best forehand in the game.

So unless Fish rides his serve to the tiebreak in the first set and Fed gets antsy, I see Fed in straight sets. Especially now that everything seems to be aligning for Fed to reestablish his dominance.

All this thread did was spoil the Fish v. Nalbandian match for me, ******. Thanks a lot. I opened the TT forum and this is the first thing I see on the screen.

And what a stupid question too. You officially suck.

Don't be so harsh, but Fish seems to be playing well at the moment. We will see how he handles the situation. I for one didn't see him beating Nalbandian, but he pulled it out. He's 0-5 against Roger, and I don't see that changing tomorrow.

obviously he won't but at least the OP made some legit points, 90% of the threads on this board are useless garbage.

and the mardy/nalbo match ended hours and hours ago. if you're a huge mardy fish fan and taped it and were planning to view it at a later date, I'm sorry, but this is a tennis forum sooooo you officially suck.

Fish will flounder I'm afraid.
Nice play on words !!!

Under normal circumstances I don't see Fish getting lucky. I am keeping my fingers crossed for Fed, wan't him back in good form.

Stormy. Where I am in Asia they were showing delayed telecasts of the QF today. I kept off the forum knowing the result would be in thread titles. They were to show the Fed vs Haas match one hour from now (that is almost 8-10 hours late). I would have had to keep off all day.

Semi finals are delayed and being shown 8-12 hours late tomorrow at our prime time. Staying off the forum is the only way.

dont see it happening. IMHO fish has zero chance against fed (how good he has been playing all week is irrelevant).fed is too good.

in one of the many many many alternate dimensions fish has won 50 slams in a row and is the number 1 player for 10 years straight, while federer has a career 0-500 record. In that universe, yes, fish can indeed beat federer.

Yeah, right Nalbandian=Federer!?

Nalbandian can be brilliant, and can be horrible. It's not a surprise he lost to anyone, just like Safin. BTW, Nalbandian is not as brilliant as Safin was.

Doesn't look like anyone of the comp left are playing at their best viz Fish, Nadal, Djoko.
So it should be easy fishing for Fed - Fed will just reel him in (apologies for corny humor).

Haven't been able to see Fish play here at PLO. But from the results he seems to be playing really well. I too, don't see his record against Federer changing. But I am sure he can make it an interesting match.

Why would you go on the match results forum if you didn't cared about the match so much?
