Anybody try Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA?

Yep. I love IPAs. New Glarus and Central Waters are my faves (local Wisconsin brews).

If you don't know them--it's okay, but I feel sorry for you.

New Glarus makes an IPA? I bet that's fantastic.

I'm not high on Spotted Cow, but their brown ale is very very good.

Sconnie has some great breweries - I'm a huge fan of Furthermore and Tyranena myself. Tyranena Rocky's Revenge is one of my favorites from the tap.

I'm assuming the New Glarus IPA he's referring to is Hop Hearty. Personally, I think it is a solid IPA, but not on the same level as Furious or Masala Mama.

Furthermore puts out some real interesting and experimental brews (even their beet beer is surprisingly decent). Tyranena is hit and miss for me. Not a huge fan of their porters and stouts in general.

I'll be living vicariously through this thread the next 38 days. Only the 2nd day of Lent and I'm already hurting. :( Keep up the excellent descriptions, Mikeler and friends!

Your liver will thank you for the break Kevin T! My 2nd beer last night was Peak Organic IPA. It tasted almost exactly like their Pale Ale. Very unique flavor, good but not great brew.

I'm looking forward to a Masala Mama in a couple of weeks when we go out for by birthday dinner. I will most definitely celebrate with a couple of those....

My favorite Furthermore is 3 Feet Deep. Interesting smoked stout, but very complex flavor. It's fabulous with BBQ food.

Had samples of these at World of Beer:

Widmer Deadlift IPA = Very good
Delerium Tremens = Not my thing

be looking for the Widmer next time out. went to the BIG store after the movies Sat nite...mistake. shelves were picked over so the current IPA faves were gone. :( picked up Dogtown Pale Ale which is drinkable and a few single samplers.

Red Alert

NO DOGFISH IN MY AREA. THE GROCERY STORES AND RESTAURANTS ARE OUT. THEY TRIED TO OFFER ME HARPOON LAST NIGHT. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I will gladly accept the trade-off of having Stone and Alaskan coming here to MN over Dogfish Head leaving Wisconsin, and would say the same thing if DFH was pulling out of MN.

Just sayin'.

Different strokes for different folks. I like Stone, but I think DFH is better and cheaper (usually). :)

Never tried the Alaskan.

My first experience with 90 Minute was heavenly, but each time I've bought it since, I've been let down. I believe this beer is not the same as it once was.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other beers made by DFH that have made a great impression on me.

Well, perhaps World Wide Stout on occasion, but that beer is an up and down one for me. Sometimes it comes across as great, while other times its a sweet cloying mess of a beer.

I'm also a fan of the Widmer Deadlift. It's a good IIPA, and a really good one for the price. I'm still stunned, however, that I can get their W'11 KGB for a hair over a buck a bottle. That's just a ridiculous value.
As for Dogfish, I'll regret not being able to pick some up when I run to Wisconsin, but it's not going to kill me. I appreciate the extreme-style of brewing they do, but we've never had more high-quality craft brewers than we do now.
Finally, I got to Town Hall Tap the other night, and sampled the Masala Mama IPA and the Czar Jack RIS. The Masala Mama is highly regarded, and expectations were high. Turns out it's a nice IPA, but it's hard for me to get too excited about IPAs when I drink so many IIPAs. Still, no complaints. The Czar Jack was a whole 'nother thing. I'd missed the hype (I'm assuming there is some) on this one. Fantastic.

Pretty much my thoughts. I like DF but I've never been blown away by anything they do. I certainly wouldn't call 90 minute "the best beer in America", as I've been told, ad nauseam. I can respect the fact that they don't want to get too big, too fast. Just not my palate's fave, I guess. As Mikeler said, different strokes.

On a side note, my wife and I granted one another a "one day reprieve" during Lent for out son's 1st birthday party on Saturday. :) Just had to try the 2011 versions of two of my fave barleywines:

1. Stone Old Guardian-Always love this one, just a BIG, heavy, flavorful, hoppy, tangy, yummie beer.

2. Lagunitas Gnarlywine-very similar to Old Guardian but just might be bigger, heavier, more flavorful, hoppier, tangier, yummier :)

I really liked the Lagunitas Gnarlywine when I had it. Strong stuff!

The Town Hall Tap (the new location in S. Mpls) is only a few blocks from my house, so I'm really looking forward to this summer - I'll be able to walk there and back home.

I agree regarding the Czar Jack - I had some last year when it was around, and it was amazing. If memory serves, I think it was served cask style too.

Took last night off from IPAs. Two days in a row of getting up an hour earlier with the time change caught up with me.

Been sticking with Bell's Two Hearted while I await for the return of my beloved Dogfish. Probably will go to Stone IPAs next.

Ah a thread I can relate to.

I don't know if you get the New Belgiums line down ther but ther Ranger IPA is excellent, as is the Happy Camper from New Mexico.

Breckenridge Brewery makes a fine IPA as well, 471 Double Hopped IPA and at 9.2% is a nice way to start the evenings.

That looks delicious.

Just tried Victory IPA over the weekend. I don't remember the full name. Great bold flavor, but somewhat light. Stood up to spicy south Italian food (Calabrese). 8+% alcohol, so just two pints was plenty. Best beer I've had in a while.

Hi mikeler, I live like 10 minutes away from a Dogfish Pub in Rockville, Maryland . Can we do a IPA for multifilament strings exchange? LOL!

You are lucky! All I've got left is Mantis Comfort Synthetic which has scored me some Dogfish in the past from Bad_Call.

I just ventured into this thread cos I've always wondered what it was all about. There's me thinking it's a gym workout session (like HIIT or is it HITT)!!!!!

You will need to go to the gym or play tennis after drinking any of these IPAs. :)

Had a Southern Tier Backburner Barley Wine last weekend. I would recommend it highly to anyone who likes big, complex beers.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/36185

Also had a Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan Brown Ale (from Mississippi). It's a very approachable brown ale--malty and a little sweet. A good craft beer for people who aren't into 60+ IBUs.

Just had an Aecht Schlenkerla Urbock. Wow, this beer is something else! The nose is all smoke, but the flavor is smoke with a nice underlying sweetness. I used to dislike smoked rauchbiers but now I've acquired a taste for them.

So, I pulled up Beer Wars on Netflix last night - very interesting documentary on the big guys versus the little guys. The founder of DFH plays a big part in it, and it's really fun to see his views on the beer market.

I'll get my wife to add it to the queue, thanks!

Just met Bad_Call at his local store in yet another string for beer trade. Bought some DF 60 and 90 while I was there. They have a few other IPAs at that store which I've never seen before.
