The title says it all. However, I like poly mains x syn gut crosses in POG OS. Read something lately on TT tennis where someone said Federize your strings with Syn Gut mains x Poly crosses. Anyone use that setup on regular basis?

Pros pro "claycourt" multi is a nice main and head velocity black is also a nice M with P.

Trajectory will always be lowish. Best for players committed to attack style.

I do it on occasion but if you hit with some topspin and fairly hard it will not last very long. I’m not a string breaker but always break this combo pretty quick. Just tried velocity main/warrior response cross and lasted maybe 5 hours.

Sure, any action to soften up the stringbed (lessen impact) with a noncoploy is a smarter stringbed for the body. I have used it and have a few players that also like it. My kids( when in there late teens) use to use it when I was out of natural gut. For best playablity and durability, that is in the hands of player and there demands also factoring in the configuration. Sure if you use a stiff shaped coploy that will saw throu any non copoly. When depends
The end result is looking for something that is the "BEST" for you (body/health), your game and your frame.

Once you add limitations to stringbed it will also effect the game, is know becomes a give and take.
It is your racquet, your game, your health, your wallet....

So to comment to OP again, the great graycrait, who thinks smart and out of the box!
sync / poly is a great option!

I've tried hybrids of Gosen OGSM x Gamma IO poly, and Head Velocity x Isospeed Cream poly, and if you hit much spin and are a stringbreaker, you're going to get very limited durability out of a set-up like that. I didn't feel anything particularly special about either set-up. The first one actually was very uncomfortable on my elbow and was almost broken in only an hour of play. Velocity/Cream was more comfy, but spin was nothing special and the Velocity was heavily notched after just one outing. I won't use either of those set-ups again.

Recently tried Dunlop Sylk (I know a multi - but a low powered one) with WC Match Power crosses - soft, great rebound and good results... I usually use natty G mains and sylk crosses...

I moved on from this setup after 4yrs to fb poly now..
16g syn.g mains/17g poly crosses
After redoing my string logs, I saw a trend in my preference of going higher and higher on the tension,,, so I switched to a fb poly, to a low tension,, about 20lbs lower (was in the low 60s with soft mains/poly cross; now im in the h7gh 40s fb poly),,
Fb poly suits my game better now,,

but to get back to your point:
It def. Has many advantages
Higher launch angle,
softer feel at contact,
provides better snapback for the mains
reduce cost on strings,
I string this up for older players all the time,, multi mains 16g, soft round poly cross 18g, with a >5lb difference... etc...
whats your concern/question with it?

I went back to gut/poly now that I'm in law school and can't play nearly as much as during the summer (i used full beds of poly, and broke them fast enough to avoid arm issues) but I do have one racquet in rotation that currently has some kind of Wilson syn gut mains with Pro Hurricane crosses. It's not the best setup for a few reasons, but using a round poly that's far slicker than Hurricane will play nicely with synthetic mains. Like other posters have said, though, if you hit with good topspin, your strings will last less than 10 hours for sure.

G.O.A.T.
Gosen OGSM mains
Luxilon TIMO crosses

I get 4 - 6 sets out of a string job until they break. Happy as a pig in mud with them.

Hi 1HBH
May I know which set up are you referring to for a higher launch angle and better snap back for mains please?
I'm currently looking for a replacement from my favourite set up of Tonic mains @ 51lbs RPM Blast 1.30 cross @ 48lbs in a Babolat PDT 2018. Lasts me about 14hrs before the mains snap at the sweet spot.

In general, most Soft.mains/poly.cross will have a higher launch angle than poly.mains/soft.cross (by "soft", I mean softer strings than poly!, that includes synthetic.gut, multis, or natural.gut string)..

I’ve done multi main and poly cross. I liked it. It popped quick like 3-4 sets but it played consistently the whole time and played well. Still not gut/poly but much more plush and powerful than poly/multi hybrid.
