Anyone else not like Goran?

There is also a story from Ljubo, when Goran smashed all his rackets during the match and couldn’t continue to play, and Ljubo offered him his rackets to continue to play.
Goran answered: no thanks, it’s not Head!
A quote from Goran Ivanisevic after a match at Indian Wells in 2001

Q. In breaking a racquet, is it mostly in the wrist?

GORAN IVANISEVIC: Hey, sometimes I watch the TV, and then I see the guys when they throw the racquets. They throw it like a f-aggot, you know. They throw it not to throw it. When you throw the racquet, you throw the racquet. I mean, you break. Sometimes doesn't break, thanks God. But you throw the racquet. You don't throw it and it's going like this. You have to smack the racquet, you know, or you have to get anger.

I never said I was offended by your use of the F-word. You just assumed I was.

Nor does it matter what I think about these words. Or even what an individual gay or Black person thinks. That should be obvious to any half-awake moron who's learned anything about these issues in the past 10-20 years.

And your keyboard warriorhood may strike some as cute but not when you're projecting into unto the rest of us who want no part of it. Brush up on your Philosophy 101 before you make a fool of yourself with your comical (non-)grasp of Hobbes.

Goran used language like this more than once...it was inappropriate then, it was inappropriate when guys like Mac and Connors used it back in their day...and it's certainly not appropriate now. Let's hope Goran has learned something and maybe matured a bit over the years. "Nice' people sometimes say really dumb things.

Wimbledon '01 run was the most epic thing I've seen in tennis. Even as a teenager watching the broadcast, I knew Ivanisevic was a total nutcase and the match was never safe until he actually won it.
You could feel the collective emotion when he finally won Wimbledon. It was a special moment in tennis.

It was the stuff of fairy tales. Declining, ace machine; much loved by Wimbledon committee and fans, given a sentimental last chance wild card. Good, bad, crazy Goran turned up; often all three in the same match. Fed served notice taking out Pete (aiming to equal the Borg quintuple) in 4R. Henman creamed his shorts over not having another Pistol beat down in front of the home crowd and duly handled Roger in QF. Grannies and housewives in Britain rejoiced “Come on, Tim. This must be your year!”

Crazy Goran (or should that be Tim) breaks hearts of said grannies and housewives in SF. Wimbledon committee publicly wrings hands in despair over wild card decision (though we know otherwise). The rest is history. Wimbledon ‘91 - unforgettable!

Good goran. Bad goran. Emergency 9-1-1 goran.
Finals in 92, five great sets with andre.
94 final, five sets with pete. EDIT.....Correction, thanks to Max..... this Final was only three sets. Two close ones, 7-6, 7-6. Then 6-0.
1998 final, also five sets with Pete, while looking like a depiction of The Christ with a blue bandana. Traveled with Father josip. Each Morning, he watched Teletubbies.
Monday final, Wimbledon 2001. Unforgettable 5 sets with paddy rafter in front of Wimbledon’s best ever crowd. Aussie and Hrvatski flags everywhere. sad henman fans recovering nicely.

Maybe you Like goran. Maybe your standards are higher and you Look down on goran. Either way, if you like a story, you at least appreciate the guy.

Aren't you a Medvedev fan? No-one plays uglier than that.

Yes, he was emotional. Had nothing on others for antics though.

Limited game? Tennis is serve, groundies and volleys. He had two out of three .. same as 99% of pros.

Probably a bit nutty, but don't think he was ever, ever acting.

Of course it's personal choice whether you like him or not. I had the utmost respect for him, until he joined the N0-VAX camp.
Which of medvedevs strokes are “none uglier than” and what about them are so ugly?

Can't disagree with you at all. I grew up watching and respecting him, until recently....

Ugly serve motion, over the top antics and emotions, limited game. Mainly the antics and emotions. Dude was either acting or a nutter!

Your un-PC description aside, I think he was a very talented “nutter”. That’s why he was so loved - because he clearly had the talent to win a slam on the faster surfaces, but his mental demons held him back. His ludicrous run to win Wimbledon in 2001 was one of the greatest and most cathartic in sports history for this reason (and I can’t imagine the psychological impact of him losing that final).

Very hard to begrudge him that success, even if you’re a Rafter fan, IMHO (the latter was clearly devastated to lose, but got over it, and had his two US Opens in any case).

Yes, a nutter.
And on the good column.... talented. Also athletic.
Clean Two handed backhand.
Not a bad mover for such a giraffe.
Good passer.
Played baseline decently.
not a bad volleyer.
Nice feel on angles.
a Joy to see when on song.
Of course, we all enjoyed his many forays into the second week of wimbledon...
but also it was nice to see him beating chang and pete in the slower conditions of key biscayne on the way to the final against Andre.
The guy was not just a servebot.

Don't care about Goran himself one way or the other but was glad to see him win one because his father looked so dignified in the stands no matter what antics Goran was doing in those Wimbledon finals that he lost.
