Anyone from Minneapolis/St. Paul here??

Anyone here play league tennis in or around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area? Im moving there next month and would like some information on the leagues, and best clubs to join. I know of the Northwest clubs, and the whitebear racquet and swim club, but I just wanted to know if there were any other... cheaper... options.

Not from there anymore, but it depends a lot on where you are going to live. The cities are spread out and its hard to get crosstown, especially at rush hour.

I go to school at the U of MN, and I play at the Baseline Tennis Center on campus. I think prices are around $12 per court per hour. The Northwest Athletic Clubs are probably a better choice because with a membership you get a lot more than tennis. Also, I know the pro at White Bear and he is very good. The pro at Moore Lake has been named instructor of the year for the section a few times. I think that the Reed-Sweat (sp?) Tennis Center is free or close to it. Im from Winona though, and if you want to drive 2 hours, we have a club that has got to be the cheapest in the country. What is your skill level by the way? Im a 4.5, or I play in a 4.5 league anyway.

I'll be up in Maplewood, so the WB club is closer... and I like some of the programs they have there, but they sent me a broshure thing, and it listed girls singles and doubles leagues... they have a million... but I didnt see a single thing about mens leagues.. so im not sure if they have any... right now, Im a total newbie.. Ive taken one lesson, and plan on taking more, but I'd like to get in a beginners league, becuase that seems to be the best way to learn, to just get out and play different people, with different styles of play...

I just didnt realize that you had to pay a ******** 500 dollar set up fee, then pay 100 bucks a month for a tennis membership, then pay every time you go play... just seems expensive to play tennis.

moving down to live with my fiance and her parents so we can get our feet on the ground and find jobs and a place to live... because damn... I wouldnt be able to stand living there for too long.

Yeah I need a job down there... know of anything?

Thanks But for me I rather move to Riverdell where the elf's live Thats where my good friend Legolas lives an I Wanna be with legolas srry morpheus. Probably the most inexpensive club in the Cities is Reed-Sweatt. They have programs for beginners, great drills for intermediates and plenty of inhouse leagues. Check out their website: www.nicollettennis.com

Another public tennis facility is the Ft. Snelling Tennis and Learning Center. They sometimes have drills for beginners. Their website is www.tennisandlearning.org

That's where I play ( Nicolett tennis ctr ) and have had a reserved time since 1981. the cost is $60 for the season + court time.

Hey small world, three members on the site from our small town (counting Gully, who happened to be my 4.5 doubles partner two months later). I see you go to Cotter, good luck this season, and sorry about the coach defecting. I'm actually a junior at the U of MN but I used to be a senior high player.

BTW, you should have done junior drills this summer. I was an instructor for the second time; it was a lot of fun and I think all the kids improved quite a bit.

hey thats pretty weird that we all live in winona...some of my friends did those drills, and they did improve. I was actually going to switch to soccer, so I didnt play most of the summer, but I wish I wouldve!
