a gift from mother-in-law-to-be!

First thing you guys probably about me is: I'm a heart-on-sleeve wearer <3 It's my strength and weakness.

Never dreamed I'd be a nice watch owner before. Here are some pics that I took of the watch that I get to wear starting on my birthday which is in a few weeks, which is a week before my wedding.

My mother-in-law-to-be wanted to buy me a nice watch, and so I knew I had a budget of at least $3000+ since especially in Korea, Rolexes and other nice watches are crazy expensive, unless at a duty-free shop. Apparently, she bought her husband an Omega back when they got married. So, I knew I could even get a Rolex or Omega if I wanted. Not saying anything about TAG or anything...but being a newbie to watches myself, I think generally people think of those two watches as being the most expensive watches...

Anyway, I thought of getting a fake watch...but even then I was drawn to TAG. I was first drawn to the WAB1112. I think it's cool how I ended up with the newest model of the same one. I was lusting after this watch even before I knew my mother-in-law wanted to get me a watch. With everything else she's helping me and my fiance with, not to mention the fact that she's giving up her daughter to me, I didn't want to break her bank. It's a love story for the ages and I won't bore you with it...but it's an incredible pauper meets princess love story. If you'd like you can see my proposal video and original song ( 1st vid on www.youtube.com/hyogen82 ). I never had any luck in life before with anything...relationships, money, whatever...but now my luck has drastically changed and even topped off by a beautiful TAG Heuer watch!

Funny thing is, I could not be happier with any other watch than this one...Would not want to spend another dime on it. I wanted a diver's watch. I wanted it to be automatic. I have a thing for blue faces... I wanted a simple and clean face--no chronograph. I feel lucky to have gotten it for $952 at overstock.com (they had 2 left) and it sold out the next day. This was $250 cheaper than any other online retailer. Before I discovered this Caliber 5 WAN2111, I was looking to buy the older WAB1112, but I just couldn't find a site that had it in stock for a decent price. I've compared it to the one at Ben Bridges at the mall and it looks and feels identical.

Recently my eye has been catching watches appearing on shows or movies...Such as the Aquaracer that Zac Efron wears in the movie Charlie St. Cloud (pretty lame movie). Beautiful watch, though... I guess I'm officially a watch guy now...and believe me I will wear this watch to my grave. Insane amount of sentimental value. So, any advice about maintenance, etc..is appreciated.

Well, here it is in all it's glory and splendor. Here's a video of the movement (fortunately for this watch, I've recently gotten into DSLR photography). Unfortunately, it was on manual focus mode, and it is sliiiiightly out of focus.

Hey dude, long time no see.

Getting a Tag, eh? Nice watch. Are you going to wear it every day? If so, it will not be the last watch you ever wear.

It is a reasonable/common choice for a "quality" watch, though given your youth, I am a tad suprised at the conservative choice.

Enjoy it in the spirit in which it is given and congratulations.

nice video, classy as always. i had a tag carrera for a while, nice nice watch. i am back to the bulova now though :P

alas, will it not last me my lifetime? :( it's an automatic, btw.

let's play sometime Lucky! I've improved quite a bit on my groundstrokes, I think. I think i'll be a much better hitting partner now

I got myself a watch with a clear large white dial with black numbers for less than $13. No date, calendar, or any other nonsense. No automatic winding mechanical mechanism developed by a Swiss master based on several hundred 17th century components which need periodical "servicing" and "tuning" - just a good old-fashioned 21st century battery.

Just the time. Which I can see clearly without squinting at the dial.

Never been happier.

fwiw, this watch has made me more of a punctual person :o i feel like i need to be deserving of it's accurate time keeping. -_-

It might, the movement basically is an ETA 2892-2, which is a pretty standard but very reliable movement, used by many mid and high end watch manufacturers in their entry level watches. Have it serviced every 3 to 5 years and it should last you a good long time. Nice looking watch too, not a huge fan of divers, but that is a nice example.

I have a TAG in my collection which I got for my 18th birthday and has been my daily beater pretty much ever since, it's still going strong xx years later! Look after it and it'll look after you.

Cheers

thanks. with as much sentimental value it has to me, I may wear it even after it stops working...haha.. so if i didn't wear it everyday, then it'd last me longer?

would it not be better if i got one of those watch winders?

For $20 I got a waterproof watch with a 10 year battery. It gives the date, I look at watches more often to know the date than the time. I can also light it up to read the time in the dark, I need that because when I'm watching a movie I always want to know how close I am to the end of the show. Waterproof is a feature I need in order to do my swimming workouts. If I'm going out to eat at a nice restaurant, I wear a more formal watch, but for everyday use, my $20 guy will do for the next 10 years.

Nope, it won't really make any difference, just keep up the servicing from a good watchmaker and you'll be ok. Watch winders are useful if you have a collection which you want to chop and change regularly, if the TAG is going to be a daily wearer then there isn't really much point. On the odd occasion my auto's stop, I just wind them up manually again to get them started!

Cheers

I stopped wearing watches since the I got my first cell phone back in the 1990s. Watches are basically jewelry pieces nowadays.

more or less true. we are constantly reminded of what time/date it is in a variety of ways (in big cities, at least).
i never wore a watch for the first 35 years of my life (my dad never wore one and it came from him). this one is like a fashion accessory.

Here is mine. Done swimming, scuba diving with it; played tennis with it.

i chose a different rolex model but like you, i pretty much would wear it all the time. it's pretty accurate for a mechanical watch.
