Anyone know on Roddick's status for Davis Cup?

Roddick, who is expected to have rebounded from a hamstring pull suffered at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami by the time the Davis Cup quarterfinal gets underway, is gung-ho when it comes to playing for his country. From practically the minute he arrived on the tennis scene in 2000, he’s been hoping to deliver USA its record 32nd Davis Cup title.

He's playing according to the Davis Cup news. Honestly, if he wasn't playing I don't think the US could win this tie.

Agreed. Hard court or not, Blake isn't winning anything right now and Mardy Fish hasn't exactly been lighting up the tour. Aside from the great Aussie run. Robredo would beat both of them right now. They might as well have Bob Bryan play singles.

Uh-oh, you guys better start having more faith in Fish. Check out atptennis.com. They've just posted a picture of the "US Davis Cup Team" and Fish is there instead of Roddick. Looks like it's gonna be a nail-biter with Roddick gone.

Bad news:
Blake isn't totally consistent against Robredo (in the few matches I saw them play, l. in Shanghai last year, l. at aussie open last year), and generally plays worse than usual in Davis Cup play. Also, David Ferrer is a little more confident with his play this year, so he could be dangerous.

Good news:
A home crowd, the Bryan Brothers, and indoor hardcourt surface, which will help the americans alot.

When was the picture taken? The team was there yesterday, but Andy arrived today (Monday) according to a report somewhere (I'll try to find the link). They have until Thursday to name the final roster, so I wouldn't expect any official news until then. :)

Nice to have

It would be nice to have Roddick. I am not sure I have faith in Fish, but then again the options aren't exactly there for the team. We don't have the depth we need at all.

Well, Fish has had a pretty good start to the year, on his terms.

Semis in auckland (beat Ancic, lost to Ferrer)
Quarterfinals at Australian Open (Beat Ljubicic and Ferrer, lost to Roddick)
Quarterfinals in San Jose (Lost to Karlovic)
Semis in Memphis (Lost to Haas)

1st-match loss in Indian Wells to Paul-Henri Mathieu is his only bad result this year so far - that and not playing in Miami, not sure what's up with that.

But I wouldn't count the US as totally screwed if they have to count on Fish - he'd have a chance against Ferrer at least.

Nobody gives Fish enough credit at all. He was as good as Roddick at one point and then had a lot of injuries. He's on his way back up. And he doesn't have any really bad results either. Mathieu is a good player. I think a match between him and Robredo could go either way.

an article on yahoo sports also said roddick's status as of now would be to play....even with no nadal and the match i believe being played in the US, it would have been much tighter with blake being shaky lately and a not fully reliable mardy fish

robredo and ferrer are not really mediocre players

but i think the US should win with some ease, given the surface is probably fast indoor hardcourt
