Anyone seen Richard Gasquet play lately?

Hi -

Just wondering if anyone's seen Richard Gasquet play lately, and if so --- Do you know if he still uses the Liquidmetal Instinct he was playing with last summer? Since Head is selling the new Flexpoint Instinct now and is phasing out the older rackets, I wonder if he has switched.

Thanks!

Jeff

He hasn't played since September, he's not due back on court until January 9th in Sydney.

hes actually been fighting with an elbow injury ever since his match with monfils and he has been quoted saying that he is doubtful if he shall play in the beginning of the year, but that was a while ago so im not sure hor hes feeling right now.

I hope he plays! He's my darkhorse pick for the AO. He is the next thing in tennis and the sooner he is healthy, the sooner he can get into the top 5.

Gasquet is entered in the Doha tournament that starts on Monday. The draw will be made on Saturday at 5 pm local time. He is reportedly already there practicing. (I was off by a week when I previously posted that Gasquet would return on Jan 9th).

I'm not sure what I think of Gasquet. I have watched him play several times and he didn't impress me that much. He is a decent player but I don't see him in the top 5 anytime soon.

When did you see him play? He played several great matches this year. Even if he plays a lousy match, you can still see his flashes of brilliance,

he has some absolutely crazy groundstrokes. Off both sides, he is world class. If he gets his head in the game and learns how to win the tough points, he will be deep the french open, and even a threat on hard courts. The guy is a great player.

I love watching him play, its very exciting. His backhand is amazing and his forehand is close to as good. It is fun watching a player with a better backhand then forehand.

I don't think he has a disadvantage on any surface. He beat Fed on clay and gave Nadal a scare and then he won nottingham on grass.

He suprised me so much when he won on grass... against a monster S&V'er Max Miryni... and I thought this guy was just another clay-courter... then he got to quarters at USO... he can really do any surface.

Gasquet got to the round of 16 at the USO, not the QF. Same result at Wimby.

I saw him play at the Open this year, his first-round match against Alberto Martin. RG was up two sets to love and Martin pushed it to 5, losing 6-4. I hadn't payed much attention to RG until then. Now he's one of my favorites. His charisma and energy is incredible - he made a lot of fans that night!

156 - he would have made the QF but he fell in 5 to Ginepri. He was up two sets to one but then, I believe, his elbow gave out. That's the reason he stopped his season early a few weeks later.
