Murray is the Natalie Tauziat of mens tennis. His talent level is about on par with hers and when Murray plays Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic he looks like Tauziat playing Graf or Seles. The only difference is she made only 1 fluke slam final and he somehow made 3 to embarass himself each time.

That was a really poor showing from Murray.

Did he even WANT it ??

He doesn't possess that burning fire of desire for a major

He's only got another 4-5 good years to win a HC slam... that's another 8-10 total max tries for him. He'd better figure out why he's playing tennis, quickly.

Djoker to overtake Freddy for #2 soon.

That's my prediction as well... Look for Djokovic at #2 by the 2011 WTF. IMO, if Fed fails to make the SF at Wimby this year his chance at Olympic gold in 2012 on grass is pretty much dead as well.

I said it before the final: Djokovic in 3.

Murray had a cakewalk draw with an imploding Dolgopolov and a limited Ferrer, and he still dropped sets in those matches.

When I watched the Dolgo match, I couldn't believe Murray made it so difficult for himself. Now Dolgo is a great player, but that match was horrible for him. I was amazed that he even got a set off Murray with such a terrible performance and the way he was piling up UEs (+70). It was the match too much for him after a dream run and yet Murray couldn't even straightset him.

Same applies for Ferrer, an incredibly brave player, but limited in his potential. Again Murray dropped a set and needed two tiebreaks (which are obviously not Ferrer's speciality) to finish off the job.

Watching Djoko on the other side of the draw playing very well, it was kind of logical that the final would turn out this way.

Congrats to the Serb for an excellent performance in the final! I think he had some pressure and couldn't even find his best game as a consequence of that, but he played in a very intelligent way. If he gets to more finals, we might really see him open up, now the pressure of winning multiple GS has fallen off his shoulders.

Djokovic's movement is unbelievable. His serve and forehand were beautiful today, hope we see a Djoker Nadal french open final.

Agreed; he's really turned into a very intelligent player pushing his physical gifts to the limit, as seen in the semis and the final. He deserved and truly earned the title. Now, as much as I would want to see Ndal repeat at the USO in the fall, I would love to see Djokovic cut and blast through the field to take that title.

Interesting comparison! Still, I do think Murray will eventually win IF he adds other weapons to his game ASAP.

He needs to come forward more. Playing defensively from the baseline he will always be destroyed by the big guns when it really matters, no matter how many consolation prizes he gets over them in the events that dont (ala Dementieva).

He is definitely maturing. I wasnt totally sold on him a few years ago but he is finally coming of age. What a relief to see a 3rd great player of his era finally emerging who could actually win multiple slams (well already has now but could win more).

I think that current ATP rankings explain many things ...

Nadal is still the best by a big margin
Federer is the second, but Novak is dangerously close, and if he can maintain his current form and continue improving, he will grab that spot. Federer had his decade of glory ...

Than you have players like Murray, Soderling etc. who are really good but they lack the final ingredient to upgrade to champions rank. I believe Murray will make it one day ...

Also, there is one guy who is unfortunately slightly forgotten lately, but if he stays injury free he will definitely be there for some more majors. You all know who I am talking about ...

I agree completely. Djokovic, is a worthy multi Slam Champion.

Like you say, the match was won with the Quater and Semi Final performances. Whilst Djokovic was great against two very tough opponents, Murray was nervous and struggled against two players he should have had comfortable wins against. Playing two longish matches whilst feeling highly stressed took more out of Murray than people may have realised. Also it seemed inevitable he would again be stressed in the final, and by now his physical and mental reserves were already low, and this is why i voted for a straight sets Djokovic victory.

With Fed looking less hungry, and Nadal's health not always 100%, Djokovic could really cash in over the next few years, as he stands out from everyone else. As for Murray, i think he needs to see a Sports Psychatrist to help him stay in a more relaxed and positive frame of mind. He really is beating himself a lot of the time. Hopefully he can turn it around and win a Slam eventually, like the other three guys (Lendl, Agassi & Ivanisevic) who lost their first three finals all did.

Poor showing by Murray.. Djokovic was excellent though, outplayed Murray in every department, including defense which you would have thought to be Murray's strength... That said, when it comes to the forehand, the gap was huge and it showed.

Djokovic was surely the best player of this tournament.

We'll done Novak. He plays a great match and was not afraid to take control of the points. You would think that after 2 final losses, Murray just might play more aggressive?

Congratulations to Novak for an exceptional tournament, no just in this match, but the matches before this one also. Fully deserved to win his second slam this week, to add to the Davis Cup win.

I also loved his speech, very mature, gracious to Murray also. I can see him only getting better.

Sad for Murray yet again, he is unable to get over that final hurdle. Still, a very good event barring the final for him, I hope he takes the positives out of this and works on getting that final step. I still believe he has a slam in him, and hopefully he can win one.

It's always sad to see a slam end, but the season has just begun and I am looking forward to seeing what new surprises come our way!!! :)

We'll come back here at the end of 2011 and check this note. Nadal better be on form in the summer if he wants to stay No.1. + I think Fed these days is nearly out of contention for being a slam fav anymore.

Yes, 2008 Hamburg as well. Nadal and Djokovic is a very underrated rivalry because Nadal and Federer is so huge.

I haven't seen that one, but I remember their semi final in Madrid in 2009 and almost chewing my fingers off with the tension. I really hope Djokovic can make some deep runs on clay this year, their matches are pretty exciting.

Djoker needs to beat Rafa on clay or grass to take their rivalry to the next level. He's come close over and over, but hasn't closed the deal off the hard stuff.

Good work by Djoker vs Murray. Really put the hammer down and forever put any possible one-slam wonder talk to rest.

Congrats Djok, beat #6, #2 and #5 and never looked like losing.

Would have been good to see lionheart Ferrer in the final, in retrospect.

I hope Murray knuckles down and gets involved in the clay season now, last season it felt like it kinda drifted by him.

Their 2008 Hamburg match was a semi final. Nadal had won Monte Carlo and Barcelona that year, but had lost to Ferrero in Rome. Djokovic, having won the Australian Open and Indian Wells that year, had also won Rome after Nadal's early exit and Federer's surprising loss to Stepanek in the quarter finals. If Djokovic had beaten Nadal in their 2008 Hamburg match, he would have gone above Nadal in the world rankings to number 2. Nadal won an epic match 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 and went on to win Hamburg, the French Open, Queen's Club, Wimbledon, Toronto and the Olympics to go above Federer and become world number 1.

Not to diminish Nole's achievement, but if Murray somehow manages to win wimbledon I'd say that <<<<<<<< 2 Australian Opens.

Is it safe to say that Novak can have any women in Serbia right now ?
Haha the journos were teasing him about Ana after the semis.

Q. I know for sure that Ana Ivanovic has a crush on Roger.
Nole: Really? Was she sitting in my box?

Wow, you really are serious about this :)

I really want Djokovic to bring this form in RG. If he plays like that I think he'll have a very good chance to beat Federer and he may push Nadal hard. Considering their CC matches in Hamburg and Madrid a clash between them in RG may be epic.

Maybe Novak teach Ana into getting more fit and winning slams.

Circumstance doesnt mean the match was better. Personally, the 3rd set tiebreak in Madrid was one of the most epic tennis moments ever. And if you want to talk about circumstance, that match made everyone think Rafa was going to roll for the rest of the year, having taking the Aussie, IW, MC, Rome, and yet only 2 months later, despite the ridiculous lead he had, dropped the no 1 rank.

There is one thing that is a must for Andy if he wants to be serious about himself and serious about his career: he must hire a real coach. He must mature and realize that his mother just do not belong there as a coach. That is just ridiculous.

What an amazing display by Djokovic. He totally blew Murray off the court. His serve has improved so much from last year and he is back to his best. I have long said that Djokovic is the best hard court player behind Federer and as usual the Natards didn't agree. Now Djoker has as many slams on hard as Nadal and he will spank Nadal on hardcourt in the coming years. I am glad the the ownership of Hardcourts has been tranferred from Fed to Djoker. There is no more deserving candidate in terms of talent.

I thought I would feel sorry for Murray but I didn't. He totally deserved that thrashing he got. Until he learns to grow some brains and not be so damn passive, he won't win a slam. I guess he will have to learn the hard way.

I hope Fed and Djoker can dominate 2011, two of the more agressive players with attacking games. Nadal is a bore outside of clay for me and Murray is a bore almost anywhere. I hope Djoker will stay focused and provide great entertainment when Fed retires.

Congrats to all Djoker fans and those who called him "One slam wonder" can eat some humble pie. :)

Some of those defensive lobs that Novak threw up... My goodness. Murray simply couldn't get past him.

He's second NOW but while he is a much more natural HC'er than Nadal their results to be frank are pretty even in the major HC tourneys:

Both have 2 HC GS.
Nadal has 5 HC MS, Novak has 4.
Nole has 1 WTF, Nadal has come runner up in one.

Also, before we crown joker as new HC king, let's see how he does in his next tourney and more importantly, what he does in USO.

Murray had a whopping 47 errors to just 21 winners, and Djoker a mere 33 errors to 26 winners.

I was a neutral spectator, just hoping for some nice shot making without really caring who would com out on top. It was no fun at all.

****ty match, I was really disappointed.
