Two sets to none. I'm not sure if you're watching the same match I am.

Murray's an entirely different player, one Nadal knows well. If Nadal's serve fails him witrh Murray, that will be trouble for Nadal. If he gets his serve back, his chances with Murray are pretty darn good.

You must be kidding dude. Are you watching this match critically? Forget about the score. That's a REFLECTION of the inexperience of a 18 yr old, otherwise Nadal would be in worse trouble. Tomic has won close to as many pts as Nadal has. Consider-

- Nadal's hitting ONLY 13% of the balls at or ahead of the baseline ( This stat was around 55% in the UsOpen). A kid like Tomic has pushed Nadal off the baseline and he is running three times as much.

- Most of Nadal's forehands are landing short, so even when he gets the cross court arc, it does ZERO damage and Tomic can attack. The forehand is nowhere close to the way it looked in Abu Dhabi for ex.

- Nadal has done NOTHING with his backhand today. 90% of his backhand are landing short and looping up close the service box. There's been like 2 flat backhands in the entire match for him. He's PUSHING with his backhand rather than hitting it.

-Service has been awful. Less than 55% first serves and less than 65% first serve pts won. Tomic is manhandling Nadal's second serve.

- Physically sub-par, sweating and dominated by Tomic off the ground. Too many UFEs. Less than 30% break point conversion rate.
_________

Seriously if you think that "THIS" Nadal can beat a top player playing like this, I would love to have your rose colored glasses.

Not only does Nadal, NOT have any chance of beating Murray playing like this, he also might be in grave danger against Cilic.

At this time he needs a break, he won't last LONG in the tournament playing like this..

Yes what on earth is he wearing. You could sweat like that in the frost for heaven sake wearing that shirt. He's been looking at uncle Tony and he doesn't look a happy guy at all. Something is wrong here. This isn't the Rafa of last year or the year when he won this tournament

He played better in Abu Dhabi.

It might have something to do with the fact that he's playing all the whacky opponents, not giving him a chance to gain any kind of rhythm.

Pretty much this. Saved me a lot of typing.

Nadal watchers will know that we go through this at every slam with him whether he wins it or not. He just has off days - just the same as Federer did, T his kid is a good player even if he is ranked in the hundreds

I have to say though, I don't remember Federer having mysteriously off days in majors all the time when he was 24-25.

LOL...while Rafa sweats, you're hyperventilating.:)

Fed looked shaken by his match with Simon. Does that mean he's been weakened to the point of not being able to carry on?? Nah.

I don't buy your logic. It's really hard to buy it when Rafa's winning 2 sets to none and is ahead in the third.

he is obviously underrated because they (his team) are just choosing not to play more matches. A good decision because it's best for the young guys to be stable physically before they start winning on the tour. Historically, imo, young guys who do really well on the tour get hurt. He might avoid that.

I agree. However, this is his second off day, lets hope he's done with the off days for the tournament. lol.

I aswell as the rest of the world hate Nike for their new 'intelligent' look for Rafa. He is the f-cking bull, let it be shown.

Vamos!

They stated in 2011 he'll play a full ATP schedule (approx. 24 tournaments). He's played primarily challengers up til now.

By looking at these stats:

Nadal winners 35, unforced errors 29, 4 aces, 4 double faults
Tomic winners 50, unforced errors 43, 11 aces, 3 double faults

You'd think the score was more like:

6-3 3-6 4-4 rather than 2 sets and a break up

Simon was GOAT'ing for two sets. I don't think I've ever seen him play like that. Even Fed said he couldn't do much. Simon is a top ten player easily.

Meanwhile Rafa is having A LOT of trouble with his own game and is TREMENDOUSLY lucky to be playing this inexperienced kid, who, playing junk ball half of the time and throwing in aces from time to time, has pushed him seriously. Tomic didn't really have a major input in his match but if Nadal played like crap against a solid top 20-30 player he would have lost sets, if not lost completely.

Do you realize that Tomic will probably end up with more fh winners than Rafa? I would have laughed my ass off if you told me this before the match.

This does not bode well for Rafa IMO.

I don't think Nadal is sick or feverish, otherwise it would have been plain stupid for him to try and come back from 4-0 in the second set. He would have let him run with it and start the third more refreshed.

Look the kid is talented but the only reason it's been close is because Nadal is very sluggish, whatever the reason.

If Rafa played like crap against a top player and was double break down he would have let it go.

This is almost a carbon copy of the lacko match only difference being that lacko has a bit more experience at the top level and bageled sick Nadal.

(sigh)...Nadal's won in straight sets. And you're worried he's going down the tubes.

I just don't feel the same concern. You see the stats. I see the score. But I'll give you this: Nadal's serve will have to improve as he moves ahead. But otherwise, he's fine.

Enjoyable match... too bad Bernard didn't took his chance on the second set.

That was a tough 3-set match... Nadal starting to look much better... strokes getting grooved.

This was the perfect match for this round.
