My point is that trash talking is a part of sports. So what. Who cares? In America, we have this concept of freedom of speech, and people for the most part can say whatever they please.

"When you try me with a sorry backhand like Federer's, that's what you get! LOB!!!!!"

Oh wow I'm sorry, didn't realize i was talking to President of the WORLD, it's funny that you say America has freedom of speech, because you don't seem to be letting me say what I want to say, or English is your 5th language, I never said ''RAFA FANS SHUT UP AND STOP THIS NONSENSE RIGHT NOW'' , i was stating my own opinion and by your reply just now, I would believe you would let me state mine

I only caught the latter half of the 3rd set, but watched a couple weak approaches, not deep at all, to Rafa's forehand side. Needless to say Roger has to play with confidence and a higher level of play if he's going to beat Rafa, and he knows it.

Why not 2009? Nadal won AO then.

I meant 2010 as the competition that year was quite weak and I feel this year will be a repeat. Nadal may not win 3 slams like he did that year but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he did. If he achieves it he'll merit it but boy, there sure are some headcases in the men's game at the moment.

Djokovic was playing awesome throughout all the tournament, he looked unbeatable and the clear favorite, at least to me. He just had a slightly bad day in the office, and a very inspired player in front of him. I don't see him stopping to be a very serious threat for anyone anywhere.

Next time. After losing set, bathroom break, splash cold water, chant one ball at a time, swing away like a kid having fun.

If he wins first set, do the same.

Happy that Rafa won:) I didn't expect it to be in straight sets though.

Hopefully it's a competitive final and not a blowout.

Wow, just woke up this morning to check the highlights. Didn't expect Rafa to beat him so easily like that. I did made one prediction correct though. The first set was going to be a tight set and yes of course Rafa was going to win it.

I guess the one positive from this match for Federer is that most of the rest of the year will be on more attack friendly courts.

I prefer what he tried tonight even if it didn't work because Nadal had to play spectacular tennis to fend it off. Most players wont be able to do that so 2014 could be a pretty rewarding year for Federer even if he doesn't win another major imo.

It could be another top 4 year for him. I don't expect great things from him in 2015 or 2016. He will retire in 2016 IMO so 2015 will be another drop off in level and we may see him leave the top 10 or top 15 for the first time in 15 years...

It's also encouraging that he beat two top 10 players just to get to Nadal. Who knows, if he can avoid Nadal, maybe he might even win another slam?

Lol there's no point in me even responding as it's quite obvious from your tone that you're just going to disagree with me. A little humility is a good thing, no?

No absolutely, I agree. But I have always had the opinion that when Rafa is on his game, he doesn't let players play their A game. It isn't because someone has an off day, it is because they are made to have an off day. The only person who has come close to dislodging that is Novak but again in the more recent match-ups (indoors aside), Rafa simply makes Novak go for too much and he can't handle it either.

That's true of all great players, though. When Nadal looks to be playing badly, a lot of the time it's that the ball he's returning is too tough to continually hit deep, controlled shots and his forehand starts dropping short.

Never in doubt. I can't believe people actually stayed up to expect a great match.

If you don't know by now, Nadal OWNS Fed's mind

not sure if anybody mentioned it earlier but found it fascinating ESPN showing graphic that Nadal was getting less bounce off his shots than 2012, due to the court/ball change I assume, and yet won more comfortably...he's improved even since then on hardcourt obviously

Of course I'm glad Rafa won.

But, after reading a few pages of this thread I can't help shaking my head.

Has anybody considered that Federer is still playing with a very new stick, without much or no match play to it?

Don't you think that might take a little time?

IIRC Novak had a lot of trouble when he changed rackets too.

Nothing is better for Nadal than a Fed match. Fed is GOAT tonic for Nadal. Nadal could be playing like Donald Young one day, but if Fed is on the schedule the next, he'll go into a phone booth and emerge the GOAT for the match.

Once Nadal got one break, you knew the match was over. Had it come in the first set, it would have been over. You could see it on Fed's face. You could see it on Mirka's face.

Sorry Fed fans but your guy has already 17 majors. Let someone with 13 get some as well ;)

And this is not Edberg's fault. Stefan probably gave some advice on how to play Nadal, but the stubborn Fed didn't execute them because of pure pride. He would have beaten anyone today with that gameplan but Nadal loves a target and will humiliate you there, if he could sense your uncertainty at the net.

You saw it on Fed's face in 2008 too. Wimby was really a turning point in both of their careers, imo. It showed that Rafa could get in that *** on any surface.

It is because Federer didn't employ the right tactics at the right time. He had a very good chance at beating Nadal in the tiebreaker and being up one set to love.

Good chance? He was trailing from the very first point, if I recall correctly.
