In terms of game, Fed would be better. Sinner needed 5 sets to beat Medvedev who really did not have much variety in his game so would likely struggle against someone who had more variety and moved better too.

Sinner could outlast/outgrind Federer but considering how Federer beat Nadal in 5 after playing two 5-set matches in previous rounds, not sure if Sinner could outlast him either.

I'm not quite convinced of that. If he played Djokovic in the semis this year instead of Shelton would he have won?
Oh yes, without a shadow of doubt! I mean, you saw how Djokovic played in the QF against Alcaraz. It was certainly at a lower level than what Sinner showed in the semis and the final.

No, I don't mean this year's Djokovic. I mean last year's Djokovic, the one Sinner played in the 2024 semi.

Of course, it's the OP's prerogative to have 22 year old Sinner winning his first AO title in 2024 vs 35 year old Federer winning his 5th AO title in 2017.

I just think 22 year old Federer winning his first AO title in 2004 would've been a comparison that makes more sense.
