Is it just me but I saw that while Halep has an excellent ground game but she lets the high balls drop low to hit a forehand when she should have ended the point opting for an overhead ; at least on 2-3 occasions she could have easily won the point but she let Woz get into the point by simply hitting a forehand in middle of the court.

Halep’s inability to volley and smash really hurt her there. She had Woz 2 or 3 times at the 30-30 rally, but she was too hesitant. Shame for her.

Also, shocking oversight in Halep’s game not to have a short angle forehand or backhand - if she had one or both, she’d have had this title. Makes me feel for a player who works so he’s but is lacking an obvious tool of the baseline game.

Really gutsy performance from both to battle through neveres and continue to fight when the body is on fumes.
