Sucks because I want feds last year to be memorable but looks like it eont be and I also wanted his last slam not to be a controversy a la roofgate
There really is no controversy. Only haters see it as such because they are trying to cling to anything to belittle Fed.

But right now, he's allowing himself to be dictated to as well , making UEs with the FH, giving opponents confidence - a triple -ve.

I'm sure Federer realises this. You can't just will your game to work as required, however, which is why the concept of choking is so prevalent. It's not a new development, now that Fed's game is down he's vulnerable against lesser players.

I'm not even mad. That's how much I love Tsitsipas and his game and character. That's how I know I've got a new player among my favourites to watch. Great performance.

Wow, just woken up to see the result - huge congrats to Stefanos! :) Looks like Djokovic's record of being the only male player in the Open Era to reach 3 consecutive finals in all 4 majors will remain for some time to come. ;)
To quote a certain classic, which is you:

LOL who cares?

it was the greatest FH at his peak. and still so good in 2017/early 2018.
what confidence issues ?
just won Hopman cup, winning every set, without getting broken (in singles)
won 3 matches in straights here at the AO.

agassi was crunching groundstrokes (FH and BH) when old.
fed can atleast get the act together for FH - to hit it with authority.
don't care that much about topspin/flat BH. slice BH can cover for quite a bit.

return/movement/passing shots declining are all perfectly understandable.
but for God's sake, hit that damn FH !
That slice BH actually annoyed me quite a bit.

Felt it allowed Tsitsipas too much time to reposition and re-enter the rally. Too neutral.

And his movement this stage in a Grand Slam later in the match is concerning me too much. I think he needs to start training more with Rafa.

Guess what ? Tsitsipas is mostly a clay court player. More good things to follow AO.

Xactly, watched him bit over 3 years ago mainly clay events and was totally impressed this kid didnt go away at all
However the only way Tities can beat Nadal on clay is for the goons at RG to finally use level 1 speed balls and
even then Nadal can destroy most OHBHs on most surfaces 98% of the time.

I dont see Nadal going away in 3 years, his going to stay with Nole as much as he can while Fed
has to face that he beat Nadal after hit a wall while leading the 5th in that famous AO final due to
the Dmitroll 5 hour battle.

Now with night matches at the AO you need incredible stamina and baseline game as conditions
and balls slow down favoring the best defenders. Old Fed has more than not gotten erratic at the 2hour
and ugly after 3hr in the last 5 years. If he wants that number 100 wins and 109 record of Connors,
he will have to just to eat his pride and focus on BO3. The only way he could win Wimbledon is by
begging the LTA to use the fastest balls allowed and to water the courts every night.

I mean currently. And Bashilasvili lost, so who cares about potency.

It’s clear that the guy can play. He’s already what, top 20. We’ll see more from him.
I care, because it's important despite initial inconsistency. Oh, agreed though; I imagine he has plenty of upside, I just feel more power overall will help the most. Roger certainly added it in spades early days.

Uh no. We don’t know that at all.

His slam results over the last year have been:
DNP
QF
4R
4R

With all of those losses coming in a pathetic choking fashion.

Fed has only himself to blame here. That Wimb QF is where he lost all momentum. Such a mess.

I was much more disappointed in that loss than anything after that. We are talking about the King of Grass going out to some nobody on grass. If he cannot perform there, then that something of big concern.

Big impact servers with some decent game got him KAndy, Millman and Tsitsi.

As a Nadal fan, I am a little bit perturbed by everyone thinking he is a great chance. It's still way too early to consider him making the final, let alone winning this and counting on winning more majors.

And even if he does make the final, he is going to have to beat the greatest hardcourt player ever in order to win. I can't see Novak not making the final, even if he is really stretched against a red-hot Medvedev.

I am as prone to getting my hopes up as anyone else but perspective is required here.....

It's not early. He's the prohibitive favourite to make it now that Federer is gone. He gets Tiafoe (I really can't see him losing), and the winner of Tsitsipas and RBA. He'll wreck RBA, and unless Tsitsipas comes up with another monster performance he'll beat him too.

I would encourage you not to think of Federer's last major win as "controversial". It's not his fault if the organiser's did something, and unless there is evidence to indicate anything underhanded, his win shouldn't be minimised. It's in the books as his major regardless of how others feel about it.

It's not lately. He's always been one for records. Different strokes I guess. It's fine with me, you just have to learn to not take it too seriously or ignore it altogether.
Yeah I mean I like djokovic2011 for most part but he also enjoys imo sticking it too fed fans which is why I presume he is like that. I mean lately everything seems to be revolving around fed like his thread asking if only nole could defeat fed which is hilarious now

Well, plenty of time to improve!

Bottom line, he’s 20 and he just beat Roger Federer, the defending champion, in a slam.

All that said, he’ll likely crash to RBA now! It seems to be how it works...

How do you think he will go against this version of RBA if he were to get to Nadal? RBA has wins this year over Djokovic, Wawrinka and Cilic. I think the fast court is suiting Nadal. Even though it is quick, it is lively and is taking his spin, but I can't help but think that RBA is also loving this slick surface?

He will trash RBA.

He may love the surface, but he's already played 3 5-setters just to reach the QF, imagine if the Tsitsipas match also goes the distance...

I am hoping that Tsitsipas's win will help boost the confidence of other players, particularly Medvedev :) anything can happen in tennis, that is why they play the matches!

Yeah, it is a goat scalp, but it would be totally sick if a new gen player beat someone like Roger while he was playing well. Like young Nadal over Roger, or Roger over Pete, for example.

Definitely rooting for him vs RBA.

Think Federer struggled with the new Balls the whole Tournament, but 8 unused break- (=setpoints) in the second Set...

It is not the Federer from 2017! Last year despite winning was also no more that Performance.

RBA hasn't improved dramatically or anything like that. He's scored a few impressive wins but it's not like his career will be vaulted to a new level because of them over the long run. He's playing well now, but he won't beat Nadal in a major SF, especially after three 5 setters and a match with Tsitsipas in between.

Yeah, the draw was relatively really incredibly easy. I actually thought Cilic would have had some new tactic he would try against Fed. I thought he would've still lost badly though. But he didn't do anything different from Wimbledon from what I could see. Except not be "injured".

Not sure if Fed struggled with the new balls the whole tournament though.
