The lack of faith in Djokovic on TTW is striking considering that he is a 2-time defending champion who is on a 20-0 streak at the AO and not to mention the 8-0 AO finals record. If anyone watched the Zverev match, he was on the ropes several times and roared back with clutch serving. Medvedev’s form will be tested and it is hard to imagine that this will not come down to a fifth set. Whose nerves do you trust more in a fifth set - a 17-time Slam champion or a guy who hasn’t won a Slam yet at the age of 25?
So clutch that Zverev broke his serve in 3 of the 4 sets.

Did you watch the match or did you just see the score? His serving was clutch when he was behind by a break in the third and fourth sets especially when Zverev had break points to go up a double break and then when Novak served out the sets. Zverev was better from the baseline in that match, but Novak found a way to win with better serving helped by Zverev having some service yips when up in the third set. I don’t expect Medvedev to have any service yips and I also expect him to outrally Djokovic from the baseline - but, I think Djokovic will hang tough in the match helped by his own clutch serving. He has a glint in his eye when he is on Rod Laver Arena where he just doesn’t want to lose and I hope this fighting spirit will carry him through today.

And that’s it in a nutshell. All the endless comments about form, serve stats, hours on court, and who’s BH is firing better are all ultimately moot. It will all come down to whether Medvedev holds his nerves if he’s in a position to win. I doubt he can do it, based on numerous chokes from winning positions. His YEC choke against Rafa was one for the ages.
We've seen him play tighter and lose some close matches in final sets, but I can't think of any other matches where he blew a match from a winning position.

Calling someone new king of HC when both Roger and Novak are still active and playing, and even when they retire. Lol you people are cute
It would take a mission for Med to surpass Rafa's HC career before we even get to Fedovic lol

Umm, Since I am actually working for power lines installation in some of the remotest part of the country, I would definitely like to thing that I am doing worthwhile with my life, like actually bringing electricity to those who never saw a light bulb glow.

Mine has become a off the field job, I spend like 16 hours on my PC for work these days. Hence the frequent posts. And Also I did not join last december, but a year before that.
Must be a millennial, sit at the computer but makes him sound more important than he is. Also, ummm, how infantile.

Man, your definition of trash talking must be really, really different than most people, because below is what Med said in his presser. I fail to see where he's "trash talking" Novak, maybe you can point it out?

What Med actually said:

"I think Djokovic's the favourite because he didn't lose. In eight occasions that he was here in the semis he won the tournament. Me, I'm, how you can call it, I don't know how you call it in English, not an outsider, but I'm the challenger, the guy that challenges the guy who was eight times in the final and won eight times. And I'm happy about it."

"I like to play against Novak. We have, since the first one when I was ranked 60, we had always tough matches physically, mentally. And he's one of the greatest tennis players in the history of tennis. So playing the final against him is superb. I'm really happy about it. Let's see what happens on Sunday.

"When I say no pressure, for sure when we get out there we both feel pressure. I want to win my first one. He wants to win number 18. We don't know for who the crowd is going to be. It's all the small details.

"I think if we talk in general, well, I have nothing to lose, to be honest."

Some people here are questioning Novak's fitness but they forget how Daniil was cramping at the end of the Rublev match (straight sets) just 3 days ago...

He’s much less likely to cramp in these conditions. Night time match and it will be pretty cool.

Or maybe it shows us how truly great the big 3 are. They are so far ahead of everyone else that very good players are made to look ordinary.

yeah keep saying that. idiots. the nextgen are mostly pushers and ball bashers with little tennis iq, shotmaking variety or net skills.

Is Meddy around 50 points short of Nadal's #2 ranking position as of now? Of course if he wins the final he rockets to world #2 but it's a shame that he's so close just by making the final without eclipsing Nadal.

Old guard vs New guard! Fascinating match ahead and with the crowd in this could be epic! Bring it on!
I think could be like the 2000 US Open final.

T-1000 all the way.

It only lost out to the T-800 in T2 because the script said so. If there ever were a reality wherein these 2 machines would do 1v1 battle there'd only ever be one victor.

Unfortunately for Djoker there is no script here , however this match would be akin to 2 x T-800s facing off against one another (Endoskeleton vs Infiltrator) :p

31 votes for Med in five. But I heard he has never won a five setter? If that is true I don't see him pulling this off in AO final against Djokovic of all people. He must get this done in four otherwise he is toast..

He has one five-setter under his belt, and it happened just this tournament against Krajinovic in the 3R.

I'll prob wake up at 4:00 (by then the match will have proceeded about an hour-and-a-half of the way through) and check the match thread. No way I'll be able to stay up for this one, don't wanna mess up the sleep schedule.

I guess I'll just pray it's still going on when I wake up for real.

Match scheduled in about 3.5 hours yet already 7 pages. The woman's semi last night had only 2 pages at the end of the match. So I expect this site to be absolutely flooded with comments here.

If this goes five, this match thread might reach 50 pages lol

That would even be a poor return. Even Zverev-Thiem at USO 2020 reached 80+ pages.

The only thing stopping this thread exploding if it's a long match is the server vomiting non-stop, which isn't an impossibility.

Hopefully it lives up to the hype (with a Medvedev victory).
