My take -

1. Sisipas outplayed Nadal in set 4 and 5. Nadal couldn't match his level. So well deserved win

2. Nadal still had to chance to comeback had he not missed pass on 0-30 last game. Mentally he was broken in end. Not good sign for him.

He ended up showing very good power, consistency and willingness to spread the ball off either wing. It was heavyweight tennis. Showed he has it in him, to produce a big game. Similar to what he showed vs Novak at RG last year but this time he followed through and won and looked immensely fit. Looks like he could have played another hour.

Kind of pathetic for Tsitsipas to go up to his box to celebrate like he just won the tournament. This match probably took too much out of him to be able to defeat Medvedev.

Good job by Tsitsipas, he played great and showed a ton of mental toughness. I am not surprised that he performed this well because he is a great player and these conditions are great for his game.

As far as Rafa is concerned, another punch right in the d1ck at the AO. A match he truly could/should have won. Horrendous.
I’d say that third set tie break will give him nitemares for a couple of months...

And in fact those half volley DTL FH screamers were reminiscent of Freddy at AO 2017. I only got to see the fifth set but he really did play like a potential champion in that set. With serene confidence.

Good comeback vs a Nadal that was missing the x-factor and running out of steam and offense in the slower conditions. I guess he wasn't taking the trophy home anyway so go rest Rafa!

Rafa was never gonna beat Med and Djok back to back anyway.
I mean clearly you're right in a sense, it was not written in the stars, but not for any good reason. Nadal did have the game to win this tournament, and he did last year too. He didn't lose today because he wasn't good enough, he lost because he choked the TB away and gave his opponent a lifeline (much like last year, he choked when serving for the opening set vs. Thiem and lost 3 TB's).

I am so so happy for Stefanos. Just so happy for him. He is such a great player when he finds his rythm. He is no flash in the pan.
Haters like you and @mike danny are something. When Nadal was winning all you did is bashing Tsitsipas at all cost. But now he is suddenly a great player, nothing to do with Nadal choking. You probably think he somehow FORCED Nadal to miss these 3 overheads in the tiebreak.

Good win for Tsitsipas. Tough luck for Nadal. Continues his big streak of zero titles on Greenset. Greenset = Nadal Kryptonite.

However, I don't think the outcome would have mattered. I have a feeling Medvedev is going to crush whoever won this match anyways.
Nadal would have been a tough opponent in the semi final for Medvedev had he won this match. Stefanos will be made to work a lot more by Medvedev and will spray many errors like he did in the first two sets of this match. I think Medvedev is going to win the whole thing now. He has that top 10 win streak going for him.

Yep those early timed slaps and the way he sets himself up for them, turning them into virtual half-volleys when he could actually wait for the ball. That's a pretty unique skill he showed on several occasions there. Taking good time away from the opponent.

This is definitely a big surprise. A shame I cannot be awake to watch it
Still, Nadal will take 21 in RG. There is not a single chance for something different

Finally the Next Gen has done something. This one and the Medevdev USO F are probably their best big matches.

Now if a Next Gen player won't go all the way, I'll be disappointed.
Yeah. When Nadal is winning all you can is bash his opponents. When Nadal is losing-he is playing great, but his opponent is just too good. You will never admit Nadal choked.

And of course there will be no bashing at all when Tsitsipas or Medvedev will lose to Djokovic in the final.

Unlike Nadal, Tsitsipas is in the prime of his career and very fit. He will be fresh for the semi final against Medvedev. But will lose because Medvedev won't be playing like Nadal of the last 3 sets.

We shouldn't be surprised. NextGen has been HIGHLY competitive over the last few years indoors, winning the WTF and M1000's etc, and this tournament was made 20% faster. It suits them.

I am probably one of the biggest Tsitsipas fans on these boards. So, I am not gonna let your trolling spoil it for me. :D

It feels like it's Medv/Tsisi time now.
Rog/Rafa/Novak will be pushed out by the young lions.

Nadal has no one but himself to blame for letting Tsitsipas off the hook. Didn't put any pressure on Tsitsipas' service games from the third set. Made it too easy for him to hold service games. This may have been his last chance for a second Aussie Open.

Well, he still has 20 Slams to his name. #21 will have to wait for now. Maybe RG next.
Not sure why this is such a surprise. Nadal was never winning this event. Would have been hammered by Medvedev

Well, congrats to Tsitsipas on a stunning comeback win!
Feel like Rafa really let the match slip away from him after going 2 sets up - but no shame in reaching another AO QF. I'm sure he'll be ready and raring to go by the time RG rolls around
