It's pretty clear. Something's not right for Nadal at this Slam!

He's had injuries twice before!
-2010
-2011

The only year he won, 2009, he went on to get injured after that subsequently losing at RG for the first time and withdrawing from defending his Wimbledon title!

He lost the longest Slam final at this place in 2012, post which he got injured later in the year causing him to take a 7 month brake!

First that awful blister in his left palm, and now this back injury in the Final!

This is really an UNhappy Slam for him!

^Thank you hater! Of course when Federer runs around for 5 hours but loses the final, he was injured.
But when Nadal can hardly move, not even running for simple gets, he's faking!

What're you talking about? I never mentioned Fed.

Nadal chose strategically when he would be "injured" and has been increasing his ability to win the match since.

It is from these saintly posts in this thread that the stereotype here on this forum that Fednatics are the classier, more mature fanbase, and that Nadal fans are ignorant, childish and classless people that they are, is proven yet again..

Great point!!!

It's unimaginable that Nadal would give up RG and defending Wimby.

While it's true he's had bad luck at AO, it's also true that Fed****s are a disgrace to society. They are HAPPY that a player is injured so their "God's" inflated slam count stays safe.

Fed was injured in Miami04 lol.

He had back problems in AO09 final

That's got to be the biggest joke I've ever heard, this is how you play when you REALLY have a back injury.

Stan deserved the title the moment he knocked Novak out anyway so at least it's fitting that he wins the title. It's going to be life changing for him, he deserved it.

The TW admins won't punish the Fed Trolls...so full of classy respect like their idol? pff load of BS that is.

Something needs to be done so trolling from both sides is at a minimum...because this site has degenerated into a childish free for all.

Exactly! This is how a player is, when he's having back troubles FOR REAL!
Really sad that it had to happen on the day of Slam finals though. I can't even imagine hoe Rafa must be feeling. :(

Is Stan the GOAT now, since he has a leading H2H in slam finals ?
Hmmm interesting thought. Give me some time to DIGEST this DEVASTATING LOSS first. I'll get back to you after 2 months, this loss is too painful. But good question.

He's not cursed, he won the 1st final he made there ;) It's not like Roddick in Wimbledon...

AO 2012 was more painful, it's gonna be allright.

Congrats to the champion

I seem to remember nadal fans making fun of fed's back injury at IW 2013...

More luck Fed is the LUCKIEST SOB ever.

What did he make a deal with the devil or what? He never beats Nadal, everyone somehow does his dirty work for him, and Nadal gets these constant injuries at the WORST possible time. 2009 at his peak, Enabling Fed to break the record, 2012 and now when he was peaking on hards

That's just the way it goes sometimes. Nadal has certainly had some rotten luck at the Australian Open since he won it in 2009.

2010: Injured his knee against Murray in the quarter finals, and had to retire. Although he was already 2 sets down when the injury happened

2011: Had a cold several weeks before the tournament, which wasn't good for his preparation. Pulled hamstring early in the match against Ferrer

2012: Lost 5-7 in the fifth set of the final against Djokovic, having led the set 4-2

2013: Missed tournament through illness after a long injury layoff

2014: Had blister trouble during the tournament, and now a back problem. Wawrinka inspired by the occasion in the final instead of getting stage fright

Tough luck for Rafa, but that's the way it goes.

2013 was so good for Rafa when he missed AO.
I guess he can't perform well & come out healthy from AO at the same time.

I just hope he gets well soon.

AO article confirms this thread!

http://www.ausopen.com/en_AU/news/articles/2014-01-26/history_forced_to_wait_as_nadal_suffers.html

Nadal professes to love it here in Australia, although it is hard to see why.

Oh, sure, the tournament runs like clockwork, the crowds are both enthusiastic and knowledgeable and everyone who makes the long trip south is welcomed with open arms. But almost every January, Nadal is made to suffer. If he is fit enough to start the tournament – and that is not a given, not by any means – he rarely comes through the two weeks unscathed.

Last year he could not compete at all because of his long-term knee problems while in 2011, he pulled a thigh muscle at the start of his quarterfinal against David Ferrer and, again, could barely move as his compatriot won the day. The year before that, he had to retire against Andy Murray with a recurrence of his knee injury. This is not a happy hunting ground for Nadal.

“Is true that I was not very lucky and this is a tournament that is painful for me,” he said. “Is a tournament that I love so much. Is a tournament that I feel the conditions are good for me, warm conditions that I like, good crowd. So is a tournament that I really had some troubles physically in my career and is something that is painful for me. But that's part of life. That's part of sport. Is not the end of the world. Is just another tough moment. Is not the first.”

Please, let's face it you root for a cheat, what does that make you? Hell, some of your fans are FINALLY coming out of the closet, maybe you should too. ;)
I'd rather stay in it and roll around in the warm clothes than having to endure the cold outdoors;)

Every year Nadal has been in the AO final (2009, 2012) he has had awful seasons to his standard.

Now we can add 2014 to the list, we can safely assume:

- He will lose his RG crown to Djokovic (not necessarily beat him)
- Get beaten by Murray and Djokovic at Wimbledon/US Open
- Lose at SF during WTF

the funniest posts were from TDK TIPSA etc when nadal beat fed

running him down ....calling him finished etc.......

which is why they attract what they do when their boy gets beat

sorry I meant pulverized

I would cheer more for nads if it werent for his fake injuries each time he lost

i will bring up my earlier posts from wimby (rosol defeat), French (soderling ) defeat many masters tournaments in which the same posts were bing putforward when nadal lost

always the injuries

you know he can lose if his opponent plays well

hes not GOD

I think it's better for Rafa to just avoid AO, and stop the silly freak injuries that have been happening to him there. :?

Nadal played poorly by his standards throughout this tournament and historically AO is his least successful tournament. The courts? the balls? the atmosphere or the fact that it's the first slam of the year? A combination of all of the above I suspect.

Murray and Federer have also had their fair share of heartbreakers here. Poor Murray has lost three finals.
