AO Men's Final: Will The Roof Be Closed?

Let's assume the weather is dry (forecast has only a 10% chance of precipitation).

Would it still be prudent to make to close the roof given the windy and rather chilly conditions forecast for the evening ? These are not ideal conditions for tennis.

Close the roof and play at
72°F
Forecast:
60°F
Precipitation: 10%
Wind: 21 mph

Yes, guaranteed. It was always the plan anyway i understand from sources i have down under.

What is the official policy? Had thought roof always stays open during dry weather. How would they justify closing the roof if there is not a drop of rain?

Doesn't Alcaraz prefer open roof?
In Australia there is no specific rule like at W. They often close the roof for the final so that more atmosphere is generated.

Djokovic will insist on it being closed, and usually if one player wants the roof closed it gets closed. I think we had this issue with a final Cilic was in. He wsnt even told it was being closed until about 15 mins before the match started

I’ve never heard of any even closing a roof for 60 degree weather and 20 mph winds lol.
It is not an ideal atmosphere for the crowd.

This is not NFL football.

Who the hell wishes to pay $$$ to sit in chilly 55°F temps with 20 mph winds when there is a gentle option to kindly close the roof and happily play at 72°F with no wind?

Rod Laver Arena Climate Control Features
  • Heating and Cooling: The arena is a fully climate-controlled venue, described by visitors as "comfortably heated" during chilly night events. In summer, its powerful air conditioning systems can quickly lower temperatures below 30°C (86°F) even during extreme heatwaves.
  • Retractable Roof: The arena features a movable roof that can close in under five minutes. Closing the roof effectively transforms the stadium into an indoor arena, allowing the HVAC systems to maintain a stable environment regardless of outside rain or heat.
  • Air-Conditioned Public Areas: Beyond the main seating bowl, internal public spaces like hallways, lounges, and corporate areas are also fully air-conditioned for patron comfort.

They’re closing it for the boys final. Me thinks it’ll stay closed for the rest of the day. My weather app says no rain, but the skies are looking a bit dodgy.

An outdoor event closing the roof without any threat of rain or heat?
Sounds very unprofessional, and somewhat corrupt.
Even the 2018 Wimbledon Final is criticized for closing the roof, but at least they expected rain.
And wind is supposed to be part of tennis, and supposed to indicate who has the skill to play outdoors...
Whereas indoor events are for the fragile players to flourish, who need a perfect ball toss.
