Glad to see Del Potro bite the dust; he's a dangerous opponent

I don’t know why anyone doubted that. Off one leg he’s top 3. In the modern era, you don’t go from dominating the tour to nothing just because you took time off. And as Zverev proved today, the younger crop haven’t really even closed the gap, let alone gone past him.

Djokodal should dominate this tour for a few years yet.

When he does get going, Djokovic becomes a wall...that is a good sign.

Yea he will have one more run at #1. The younger ones have not caught up yet so Djokodal will still lead the pack for a few years. Federer is still in the midst as well.

That is true! When he’s in that form he’s so tough to stop! Serbinator mode! :D

Yessir. Not a done deal by any means but seems more likely than not at this point. Would be the 1st time Novak faced Roger or Rafa in a slam since AO 16. It's time.

I can now see more penetration on the shots now from Novak, more conviction, and better follow through. Looks much better... :)

I am waiting for him to reach his real form

Earth's Mightiest Warrior form...if he can get it by the semi, and possible Federer semi final, all hell will break loose in Melbourne.

Hearing that monstrous yell he does every time he beats Federer would be amazing.

He looks better after the MTO, not worse. Seemed preventative to me, maybe to stop a cramp.

Very true. We could get the big 3 all in top form by the semi. This is shaping up to be a very exciting slam!

This. He has become a slow starter. Needs to sort that out cause he can't afford it.

If Djokovic enters Earth's MIghtiest Warrior form by the semi and beats Federer, he is winning the title. That is my prediction.

But he's in Fed's quarter, and he's less dangerous to Nole than Fed.

Same, but I prefer Nole to win it against Fed. A little challenge for Fed in the previous round can go a long way to helping Novak win.

He started off slow, not too much penetration in his shots, weak follow through, and generally negative body language. By the end of the first set, that started to change, he got sharper, the shots had more venom on them, he was moving much better, everything was going up. He still needs to improve more though and needs to get that first serve percentage in a safe zone.

Yup I mean it's Novak so no shame and novak at ao. I'm under no illusions of a repeat of last year. Though if I'm being honest I much prefer Novak hit his stride at French :D

    Yeah, I bet. :)

Although this maybe the best opportunity that Federer has to beat Djokovic at AO, not counting AO 07.

We will see. Not a done deal for both and I know people think del potro was tougher but on ao I'm not so sure tbh and idk who Novak faces in his next two matches. On One hand despite my nerves djokerer matches I think are objectively the best of big 4 so would be intriguing esp after no meeting for a while

So how did our Warrior do? Please tell me he had no elbow problems.
Personally I never bother judging the speed. I think I heard someone say that Rod Laver Arena plays a bit faster than other courts. Or are you talking about that one as well?

No injury. I think it was the beginnings of a cramp or tightness. He moved better after he took the MTO, not worse, like would be expected from an on-court injury.

He played good but had another slow start. He squandered 6 break points before breaking. Serve looked better tonight and he made more errors than he would like but was pretty solid. He looks really good off the ground.

Yea Rod Laver is playing faster and has been playing faster than the other courts the last few years. All of the courts seems slower to me than 2017 but still really quick. I guess I have seen more matches on Margaret Court, which is a bit slower, so that may be why it feels like it's playing like 2016.
