AO unwatchable. Shouldn't the men go best if three and schedules be shortened for he ATP and WTA?

It wasn't a waste of everyone's time before. Why is it now? Because people just can't handle it? Waste of time is a copout. If you have something better to do during a best of 5 set match then do it. Nobody is holding a gun to your head.
Exactly, its a very weird complaint :cautious:
And anyone who saw the epic 5-setters of Fedal and Nadjok and Fedjok, can't possibly think tennis will be better with 3-setters.
Its probably mostly non-tennis fans or newbie tennis fans asking for reduction...

It is a waste of the world’s time to have BO5 until quarters.

If Men play best-of-3-set it will devalue all the accomplishments of future slam champions
If somebody wins 20 slams they'll never get credit for it, compared to the best-of-5-set champs whom won 20 !
So if they switch to best-of-3-sets, I hope they do it AFTER Alcaraz is retired, so he doesn't have to suffer the indignity.
BTW the AO is having all-time record attendance, so tennis is bigger than ever!
Its actually interesting paradoxically because it’s easier to lose in best of three but harder to win over a best of 5 versus a good player.

Yep, because best-of-5-sets will separate great athletes from good athletes.
Best-of-3-sets makes athleticism or stamina less of a factor, so the lazier or weaker players can win more
Zverev has diabetes, and he has won A LOT of titles, but no slams...

It is nice to have a difference between the Slams and other tournaments in terms of a different format. We get to enjoy the longer matches only 8 weeks of the year and can watch shorter format matches for forty weeks.

I would be surprised if tennis eventually goes to best of 3 in the slams. Maybe the final will be best of 5. I'm not arguing for it, but I wouldn't be surprised.

This is what's happening at the NFL, the game has become too fast and too violent for the players to survive.

The difference to tennis is that NFL players are replaceable.

Was never a fan of this idea but I’m warming up to it now.

Tennis is a different game than in the past. I think also that people’s attention span is much less. Adapt now or die. Even though some attendance is good, it won’t be for long.

Players will last longer. More upsets, more drama. More aggressive tactics. Like it used to be. Make surfaces more distinct also. Sports are just so homogenized now, especially pro tennis. A change is as good as a rest. Blow it up, there’s no respect for tradition anyway.

For those that disagree, Insert young man yelling at the clouds gif…

I’ve been hearing of this problem for about 30 years, but the Slams continue to make money very nicely with record attendance and more TV coverage around the world. Ratings may be lower compared to 30 years ago, but that is true for all live sports as there are more channels and streaming entertainment options now. The tennis audience is a higher-income one attracting luxury product ads and so the price for TV ads during live tennis that you have to pay to the broadcasters is still very high compared to many other mainstream sports that have more viewers. So the broadcasters are also happy to shell out more money to the Slams.

Personally best of 5 is freaking over. Sorry I know it's going to **** everyone off. But this is nonsense. People dont watch best of 5 matches anymore. It's done and I know everyone is gonna jump all over me. So what. Its coming. Face it. Bye.
You're not a tennis fan, mate.

If the slams ever become best-of-3-sets, I bet a new tennis league funded by the Saudis will do an event with best-of-5-setters and it will steal the attention away from slams!
Events with best-of-3-setters will never be as impressive...
