Verdasco will turn 26 this year, that's hardly young in tennis anymore.Although it seems he's finally coming into his own this year, expect him to reach top 10 in 2009.

it is sad that just as we get acquainted with a player, his developing personality and his style, he begins the decline. extraordinary how young the drop-off point is in tennis, a footballer would play his best football at 27-28ish and can still be world class in his thirties. i wonder if it's not because of the joint-shattering hours they put in when still growing.

Well its a bummer if your best shot is you oponents trademark. For Delpo to hit fh to fh he will find himself in many awkward situations unlike with Cilic, as Feds movement is just superior to what it was last year and to Cilic's. Fed never had a problems with big servers, when he lost in the past he was utterly outplayed from all the departmens and I do not see that coming from Delpo yet. He's a young guy, as years go the situation will change, as it did with Henman who had 8-0 vs Federer before never coming close to taking anything from federer except something from bakery ( bagel mosttly, breastick sometimes ). ;)

Interesting thought. Well, tennis and the equipment change a lot faster than football, and in football, as a team sport, you can depend on experience and magic even if you're not like 100% of what you used to be because its a team sport. You can do a rivaldo and play for the team with occasional briliant moves or whatever, whereas in tennis, once you're not 100%, you're on the down side.

well, tennis is an individual sport in which you're the only one to take care your part of the court, all by yourself.

Del Orto in 4. he will choke the 2nd or 3rd set but he will win. the Fed streak of semis will be over tonight!

lets go Juan lets go!!! believe!

it was obvious the last day that Fed is still dealing with mono. he is lucky to play in the night.

Delpo is playing better he is the only player unbeaten this year!

mark my words. if Delpo doesn't choke he will win.

Djokovic to win the title.

Both statements are brave. Djokovic, my favourite, is not in form he was last year while Federer is back regardles of the last match. On the other hand Delpo needs more experience for a 13 slams winner unles he comes out of the blocks the way Berdych did it. Beaten or not, its only a start of the year and Rafa looks way to dominant compared to the other guys from big 4 ( now 3 left in the tournament ) but he has a few obsticals of his own to overcome like gilles simon, tough guy any way you look at him, and potential blockbuster semi with tsonga I am cheering for.

But I never expected Berdych who chokes vs Fed from Athens 2004 on till now to put in a performance he did. Pitty he had a slight injury in the latter stages of the match but he was enjoying it and to say the least and take nothing away from Roger, he did play sublime tennis especially when it was important in the third and fifth but faced 40+ forehand winners from a hard flat hitter like Berdych. Still couple of non choking serves from Berd and this would and could have been an epic.:) It fell just short.

does anyone know when the men's matches start??

Anyone...?

Mate try harder next time, go to the official web page or whatever.

http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/schedule/index.html

They start at 19.30 local time with Safina - Dokic being played before Delpo - Roger match. I will go no further than this, you can type in time zones in google and find the time difference from where you live to Melbourne and conclude yourslef, I helped enough I hope.

In europe it will be 11.30 for the first match and depending on the lenght of the other match, girls, somewhere after 1pm the match should be on the way.

^^ Don't count Delpo out just yet!!! The guy has a solid game, I think he has a good chance

As for Nalby...Just wait till Paris+Madrid this year lol. That's where he shines

Its starting in 2 hours after the Safina-Dokic match

Del Potro is going to win this tournament. That's right, I said it.

Don't freak me out, Ed :-D Have to take my mum to hospital so will miss this ;-(, praying that Delpo doesn't give Feddie any trouble.

Best wishes to you and your mom. Dammit Sentinel, now you make me feel bad rooting for Del Potro.:)

I may be alone on this one, but I think Del Potro has a very good chance if he uses the same strategy Berdych used. I wouldn't be shocked to see Fed go down tonight.

I'm going to be a bit biased b/c Delpo is my favorite player...

Anyway, I think delpo has a good chance against Roger. I was not impressed at all with his match against Berdych. That was just a horrible performance on Roger's part. My man delpotro is no choker, and he won't let Fed get away with those forehand errors.

May I also remind you that Delpo has been serving out of his mind this whole tournament. He's been consistently hitting 205kph on first serves... Furthermore, he's alot more consistent at the baseline than Berdych.

All in all I think delpo's serve+solid ground game will be too much for Fed. Fed isnt at his best right now, and Delpo will take advantage of that

Mark my words on this one...

I'm actually with you on this. I like Roger, but I just have a feeling Del Potro is going to play the match of his life tonight (or this morning?).

Hardly,40 people share your opinion. The days of me being shocked when Fed loses are gone, this ain't 2004-2007,it's not the old Fed anymore although he can still play some great tennis and shouldn't be counted out.

Gogo Del potro, even I`m ok with Fed i`ll trash him all over forums if he loses. (thats trend here, its internet!)

Trust me,you won't be even noticed in the hordes of Fed haters(mostly Sampras fanboys fearing for their hero's record)who'll come out of the woodwork if Fed loses this one(I expect a couple of-Fed is done and should retire and Pete's record is safe-threads and posts).

You are not alone in being mistaken. Same things were being heard in USO.

Berdych may have lower rank than Del Potro, but he still beat him comfortably few months back. Roger will have easier time beating him.

You think it's more Sampras-fans than Fans of Nadal and Djokovic? Anyways.. You always know that whichever match si lost by whichever player in the top 3, there's gonna be a bunch of threads about it and people won't forget it ever again. Some people will have the day of their lives if Fed loses. I'd be disappointed, but won't lose any sleep.

I do actually, they're the ones that hate Fed the most and root against him whoevere he plays.I root for Fed to win the title here but and I'll be dissapointed if he loses but can't whine too much about that considering that for a long period, being fan of Fed was so easy given the fact that he was winning everything in sight. These are different times now,Fed looks human again,is losing much more and showing more emotion(kind like pre 2004 Fed)and I kinda like that.Makes me root for him even more as he's kinda of an underdog now,not the overwhelming favourite anymore.

I totally agree on the last part. It isn't for nothing I signed up at this board 1 hour after his tipsarevic match last year. However, I think guys like gj011 and Nadal_freak (I don't want to say that gj011 is like Nadalfreak, but he hates fed just as much, he just keeps the idiotic posts about it to a minimum) are rooting against Federer all the time, not because they're such great fans of Sampras.

With them I feel the main reason they are rooting against Fed is because of Fed fans's bashing of Nadal and Djokovic, they are more returning the favour so to speak IMO.

Guys...channelsurfing.com has had every match the entire tournament. Just go there and click on Rod Laver. It's better without commentary, anyway.
