Apparel and Shoe Advertising Compensation?

Does anybody else think that we consumers should get a break on the price of apparel and gear, if the manufacture's logo is on display bigly on the items? I mean, we don't get paid a penny for all of the free advertising that we do for them.

I think there should there be one price for some shoes with no visible logo, and a lower price for the same shoes with the large branding logo. That would be a fair way to compensate us for the advertising?

I definitely see your point, but no one or company is forcing us to buy their products. I’m a HUGE Nike fan and of course some of the gear can be down right obnoxious with that swoosh. I buy what style suits me, but I know that I’m a recreational player at all the sports I play. So there’s no expectation from me to receive money for it.

i recently became a product tester for tennis stuff from Nike.. its quite a bit of work with no compensation at all.. which is weird. you have a very narrow window and quite a few reviews and forms to complete,, and not even a coupon. i think the giant ads you see on apparel is obnoxious and i stay away like tag said.

How did you become a tester for Nike?

Sports apparel is one of the few exceptions that I make for logos, and I do it because it is unavoidable, if one wants to use high performance items.

Of course, any company that festoons its products with logos has a progressively lower chances to get me to buy their stuff, even if I think that they have quality products.

I also realise that I am not their target audience.

Do you at least get the swag you review free? Or why do it?

applied online... waited 6 months. tested all the french open items and the new zoom zero.. they treat you like an employee without any compensation.. all items have to be returned with lengthy reviews and impressions

i thought they had to give some motivation to keep at it.. no. you can quit or keep the items and you will be released from testing in the future. waiting for the next package to arrive

You make a good point. It is basically free advertising for them and it's up to us if we wanna do it or not.

Seems like only incentive for signing up would be hoping for a future job with Nike (if they like your reviews/work). Not letting you keep the stuff you test is totally lame.

Being a playtester for TW is a way better deal!

I used to test for nike basketball. I thought it was fun at first, but like you said you don't get anything out of it. I stopped after about 4 years because the products were always have finished and i would always end up hurt or getting pain points in my feet.

Wow! That’s doesn't sound nearly as appealing as I thought it would be. They should at the very least let you keep the gear!!!

they want you to use the stuff as hard as possible in a pretty short period of time and get your impressions..as well as see how the items held up.. mainly for shoes.. i can understand wanting them back to see the results.. but, i got the entire french open collection and it was barely used and it went back

One of the things that I am especially sensitive about is my court bag. It has bold, big lettering on advertising for a racquet company that is not the company of the frames in my bag. I routinely get asked questions about that companies racquets, and I don't even use them.

This is not the first bag that I have had this situation. I only use these bags because I got some greats deal on them from TW!
