Are 2013 Babolat Aeropro Drive GT different than 2013 Babolat Aeropro Drive?

Hi,

Until today I thought that 2013 APD GT is different than 2013 APD. I personally have a racquet that I thought was an 2013 APD but today I realized that it have the GT technology on. Therefore I think that my racquet is an APD GT. But does exist 2013 APD without GT? I can´t be able to find any picture of that racquet!

Even Tennis Wharehouse have review over only one model: 2013 APD (without GT in the name but with the technology) exactly like mine!

What do you know about this issue?

Thanks in advance!

The 2013 APD and the one before (2010) both have GT technology.

To make it simple for you, there are only 4 generations of Aeropro Drive racquets.

1. Aeropro Drive Original (2004)
2. Aeropro Drive Cortex (2007)
3. Aeropro Drive GT (2010)
4. 2013 Aeropro Drive GT (2013)

Here is a photo of my collection:

The link above in your comment is for 2013 model. In my picture, the one standing at right is APDO, next to it in the center is APDC, and at the very left is APDGT. The 2013 models are all laying down (no points for guessing which one is my fav).

Nice collection! :)

Thanks for answers! My question was grounded on the fact that I see both denominations: with and without GT.

The racquet that I have is that in the TW-link. I like that so much that I want to buy at least 1-2 more.

For 2.5 years ago I switched to 2014 Pure Strike 98 and I liked very much. But after a while I get some pain in my elbow and I thought that my PS98 was to stiff. After 6 month with PS I changed to Blade 104. I played with Blade for 1.5 year and it was very nice but I haven't enough power i my strokes. For only 3-4 month ago I tested again my old 2013 APD and I loved it. Since then I understand that I need stronger racquet not more flexible. I play now with APD much better then I did with any other of my racquets!

Four of the 2013 APD racquets on the ground are 2014 Roland Garros version. Are them completely identical with 2013 APD? I mean if them play in the same way like 2013 APD?

@haqq777 picture just reminded me of something. When we had the full shutdown back in April a friend of mine took his dog out for a walk. He sent me a text saying his neighborhood was like an abandoned wasteland. He says someone even left their tennis racquet laying out in the grass along the sidewalk. He sends me a pic and low and behold it is an APDO. Had hybrid strings in it as well so I don’t think it was junk. Someone must have left it on the back of their car or something leaving the country club there. I said go back and get that thing!! You don’t know this but it is special. He said he didn’t want to grab it in case someone came looking for it. I can respect that. Over the next couple days he sends me more pics saying it is still there in the zombie wasteland. At some pt someone even propped it up against a tree. After a week he said he would get it if it was still there the next day, but he never did. I am secretly hoping that he grabbed it and is going to give it to me when this is all over. I definitely would like to have an APDO.

Actually two are RG Edition. Two are custom paints I had done. All of them play very similar and like how 2013 APD should play :)

APDO is a great racquet, just feels more raw and a bit harsh compared to other versions. I prefer the 2013 myself simply because it plays and feels more refined to me and it works great all around for my game.

How is the situation between Gravity, PA 19 and APD 13 working for you? I remember you mentioned you were trying to decide between these three not too long ago. All three are great sticks!

I just want an APDO to have it. I doubt I would like it better than APD13, but APD is the frame that pulled me away from Head, although Head is reeling me back in. APDO just seems like a must have.

As for those racquets, it is like choosing which of your children you like the best. I love them all even when they **** me off. I just added a G360 Speed to the mix and I see it multiplying!?! If you forced me to pick one it would have to be the PA19 I think. It has a great feel, puts nasty funk on the ball, and serves bombs. I can also tune it up and down with strings. I honestly don’t know what I would change about it. The other ones are a little more forgiving (especially the Heads) but they have a lower ceiling. That Speed is pretty damn nice though if I get the strings right. Lucky for me I play for fun and not money so I can swap until my heart is content. The great debate raging in my mind is a big part of the fun!

I have to agree. It has a good amount of feel without too much harshness. Likely the most forgiving APD/PA out there. There is a reason many pros use a 2013 APD with a paint job.

@haqq777 can you see any difference between the 2013 APD version and the previous 2007 APD Cortex or even 2010 APD GT when you play with them?

I don't think that I want to mixed 2013 APD with other versions when I play but I'm very curious what your impression is!

Anyone who have any idea if the difference between the 2013 APD version and the previous 2010 APD GT or 2007 APD Cortex are so big? It's quite hard ti find any 2013 APD in very good conditions!

If not for Mannarino and Tsonga, and mebe Bouchard, they wouldn't have even started making pro stock 2013s. Tsonga used a very low flex set up - like 64RA.
Mine feels stiff, but somewhere between 69 and 67 kinda stiff.
I was considering taking mine off the market here in Europe.
The 2012 is the most similar.
I think Paire uses/used the 2012?

In which way did Tsonga managed to get so lower RA?

The ‘13 is a blend of the ‘07 and ‘10 version. The ‘07 version is like the OG APD but more muted. The ‘10 version is stiffer with a higher swing weight. I still have 3 of the OG APD from my junior days and use it ever so often. I also have one ‘16 PA modded at 347g/12.2oz strung w/ overgrip, dampener, and lead at 12 (12g) and under the buttcap (5g) with 346SW. As of right now, I’m testing/using the Yonex Vcore SV98 285g modded.

As David said, it's the lay up. But I also think he used an extended version. So the lay up likely didn't have to change too much from a standard stick as the longer a racquet is, the more flexible it would rate with the same lay up.
Many pros use PD's, APD's and PA's with a stiffness rating closer to 65RA. Much of this flex is in the throat. The hoops are still very stiff and stable. You'll see a lot of pros doing this with various racquets. It's a good blend of power, forgiveness, spin, and control. Bear in mind that many pros also load their sticks up with lead, which makes them act a bit more stiff as well than their RA might suggest.

Thanks for answer!

I understand what you all say but don't know in which way I can see the difference between the "normal" frames and "pro stock"? Some times it's quite hard to see if a racket have a PJ or not. I have hard time to see the difference.

Normally when you buy a racket you don't know the real RA and you don't have the opportunity to measure that! And it's impossible to measure when you buy online too.

My question is if it's possible to make a racket to have a lower RA, like dampener in the handle or similar things? In which way I can manipulate and measure the RA without advanced equipment? I do not have a device to measure RA!

Have a nice day!
