Are coaches honest with Ostapenko?

Her serve is pretty average. Her movement is passable for a bighitting tall girl. Her bighitting is often misplaced. She looks scared to run sometimes. He lacks ball control and spin. Her fitness seems average at best.

But she sure had a remarkable two weeks in Paris last year. Confident shotmaker. Is it enough?

Her babyfat will be gone soon. I hope she can replace it with some spins, variety, ball control, and agility.

If there is a way to combine jelena's strengths with the spins and variety of dasha kasatkina, i think we have a world beater.

...that her “kick serve” is a stinking meatball? Maybe she should put that club back in her bag?
Tobay definitely she makes a lot of double faults and find it difficult to get the first serve in.
But she didn't lost the match by that.
Who can get through of opponent who is "in the zone"?
Nobody! That's why she lost happy and laughing...
She'd played (almost) her best.

Btw, Jelena has a such offensive playing style which most of us don't dare to play it even in our backyard...

...and it’s not as if Jelena won that French Open final decidedly. Halep was well on her way to her first grand slam title, until epic choking ensued.

I was impressed with Stephens’ tactics and execution. How many times did Sloane get one more ball back, and Jelena made an unforced error? Too many to count...

I was impressed with Stephens' defensive skills today. I'm surprised that she doesn't hit with more power given her physical strength.
She learned what Jelena will learn. She who has great power should use it lightly.

^What a cool name^ El Gato! When you were a kid, was it El Gattito?
From what I see she needs to play more strategic, think when and how hard to hit the ball, not always hit super hard and then lose easy point
I agree. But watching her play this week, it looks to me she is not yet fit enough, or agile enough to play the more thoughtful, varied, strategic game of which you speak.

Hahah I only use it on the web but it was ment like a shortcut for Gatorade maybe 10 years ago then I realized iťs tomcat in Spanish lol...

Yes now she is only hitting like crazy, I saw her standing next to the net and all she had to do was lightly put the ball behind the net, Stephens was way behind the baseline no change to catch it but no she hits like crazy anyway

I've grown to finding Osta entertaining. At first her smash and bash style was boring. Now I find it amazing how she mashes the ball from defensive angles and creates really good angles. She isn't just mashing cross and up the line high percentage. I also like how she makes the other players uncomfortable by going for winners early in points instead of letting her opponent get comfortable in a rally.

Sloane just played great defense.

Going the wrong way. Looks like she's putting on "babyfat" to me.

Huge drop in Penkos level of play from her win over Collins to Sloane.
oh no.
I am sure she's working hard, but if she is really getting slower, and clearly playing worse, she ought to take a break from competing. The tennis calendar is not friendly to a retooling. She looks stressed-out.

Re-evaluate the input side and the output, too.
Look at nutrition and the sleep schedule.
Maybe hit the ladders, jumprope, and some different, fun, movement drills.

Seems like a sweet kid. Wishing her well.

She gets it in, that's the most important thing. It's not like many WTA players do something meaningful with their second serves anyway.

her kick serve sits up more on hard courts especially slick hard courts. but it kicks up higher and heavier on Clay courts so she is more successful there. Adjustment she should make on hard courts is toss the ball little more in front and get the serve to penetrate the court more. on Clay courts, use her regular kick to make the ball bounce up High.
