Are cross court, line hitting (or close) winners less common now?

Are they less common?

When I was watching back in the day when the big 3 were peaking it seemed this shot was quite common. Doesn’t seem like this generation is actually very good at shotmaking at all. The only one I’ve seen come close to hitting these shots consistently is Alcaraz and he’s not consistent in general.

I mean the Big 3 were the Big 3 for a reason, lol. They have a talent level combined with more advanced racquet and string technology that made it possible for them to not only hit these incredible shots, but to consistently hit them. The guys nowadays sans Sincaraz (and even they don’t fully measure up) have the technology but lack the high end ATG talent to play at the insane level the Big 3 produced.

It’s actually pretty crazy, when you look at the Zedrots and Midvedevs of the world (the two most successful players of their generation) and how meh their FHs are in comparison. Great BHs sure, but the FH will always be the more important, versatile, and offensive shot. That and a huge component of shot making comes from one’s ability to move and get into position to hit these highlight reel shots. Zedvedev move well for giraffes, but their height is ultimately a further detriment to their shot making ability.

It feels like the new gen FH technique isn’t as good. Players should be copying Federer, Nadal (straight arm), Del potro, Dimitrov.
