Are most people on tennis warehouse old people?

Nope you are not alone. I am 17, a youngin also. Just to let you know, we let the adults think they rule the boards, while the people who can actually work an ipod are actually on top;)

"Work an ipod"...........he ...he......

You would have to be a moron not to be able to use an Ipod.

Quoted for truth.

Have you built a functional Difference Engine from LEGOs?

I've got four upstairs. I plan on making a "Post pics of your functional difference engine built of LEGOs" thread later today.

Move over old fogeys. iPods are so "last century", you gotta be able to "actually work" an iPhone to rule the world.

Thanks you for your advice - but I'm a TECH Geek, and in fact everything Apple/Mac is made for Ladies, artist (with low key talent for High tech), gay's (no offense at all) and older people, who can't operate a normal PC  ......... just kidding :D

This is why I commented on the Ipod post - even a ****** can operate an Ipod - and FYI an Iphone 2. generation doesn't even have MMS built in and the 2 megapixel cam without flash is as poor performing as the ones you saw in Nokia and Sony-Ericsson mobile phones 3-4 years ago

The new Samsung I900 Omnia and the new HTC Touch Pro does everything better than the new 2. generation Iphone in my view.
Only great thing about the Iphone is the 16 million color screen and the design.

Well, i'm 16.

You won't find me in the junior section though... it's not the sort of place I like to spend my time.

The one that rules is the one that BOUGHT you an iPod lol.

And some people here think maturation is a bad thing...

I'm 30 and I still get carded sometimes in the US if I try to buy cigarettes. I mean seriously, I don't look 18. And absolutely every time if I buy alcohol. I've even been refused that one cause they said I had a fake I.D. They looked younger than me! It's weird sometimes.

I'm 21, going to be a senior this fall. The years are flying by way too quickly and soon I'm going to be facing words like maturity and responsibility. As it is though, I act like the stereotypical 21 year old. Case in point, not only do I know how to work an Ipod but I need to buy a new one because I spilled beer on the last one and it fried.

Yay! Keeping up appearances is pretty hilarious if you like british humour. I've seen nearly every episode... not sure if that's cool or sad.

Oh yeah, I'm also only 20, Junior in college. So if you're 13 you might look at me as being "old", but I don't feel it. I mean, I'm still in school...

I was kidding too. "last century" was a quote from Steve Jobso's address.
Anyway, lets spar a bit.

So you are a tech geek ... what OS do you use ? I presume Windows, Linux and Mac are too ungeeky for you. Richard Stallman's Herd microkerner, praps. What programming languages .. er oops, you program in machine language - i take my question back.
Lastly, what's your setup ... racket and string....

ROFL! I remember in Comp Sci our teacher showed us some machine language one day, it was pretty intense. I prefer my java any old day.

java ! SHHHH ! If he hears that he'll tell you its a guhly language like the 2hbh, and real men program on bare metal (or whatever they say). Clubuno probably still writes in C and spent his entire life debugging some pointers... and that's a manly thing to do. And then porting your code to every system .. i could go on and on...

(just kidding, clubuno, just playing around).

Then how come every person I know who owns a Mac says how great they are? Personally, I'm a pc guy, and I know little about tech stuff, yet I fail to see the appeal of Macs. But these Mac moonies won't shut up about how great they are. Why?

I use Linux and Vista 64 bit as my OS.

I design and program websites - Photoshop, Indesign, Flash, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver - my favorite is NOTEPAD
Also use C++, Java, Pascal, SML, SQL etc.

My string setup:

Wilson K Blade 98: Babolat VS Team 17 mains @ 28 kg - Babolat VS Touch 16 crosses @ 27 kg

Babolat Pure Storm Tour: Babolat VS Touch 16 mains @ 28 kg - Babolat VS Touch 15 crosses @ 27 kg

Head Microgel Prestige Pro: Laserfribre Super Natural Gut ProStock mains @ 28 kg - Babolat Xcel Power '08 crosses @ 27 kg

What do you use

You have to look at the guys/girls who praise the Mac's. What kind of people are they - high tech geeks, PC newbies or just average people who fancy hot elegant design more than beige ugly PC design :D

Mac/Apple sure make great products - I'm just kidding a bit.
I also get sick of listening to Mac freaks - that's why I try to kid them a bit.
You don't here PC freaks praise PC products. Mac freaks would say that's because there's nothing to praise about PC.

I would say, that Mac freaks just belong to a certain group of people - in the 90's and early 2000 it was mainly used by web designers & FTP guys, artists, girls, gay's, newbies and older people, because of how simple and easy it is to laern to operate a Mac product. Now with the immense popularity of the Ipod/Iphone, the younger generation have accepted Apple/Mac in another way, than what you saw in the 90's and early 2000.

Mac products are better designed and built from high quality materials and they work better in the long run because of the closed environment, Apple has. No one but Apple can release programs and Utilities for Mac/Apple products thus they are more stable and won't crash like PC products some times will. The negative side of this is that the supply of programs for Mac products are way less than what you see in the PC world.

The target group for Appla/Mac products - web designers & FTP guys, artists, girls, gay's, newbies and older people - don't need a lot of extra programs for their Mac. They just need something that will work and is easy and user friendly - so no one seems to care about the lack of programs and utilities for Mac products. The hardcore Geeky PC guys makes fun of this on a regular basis, because they like to play with their PC and thin it's great to have an open platform, that they can play with and design their own programs for.

The Mac freaks don't need to have extra programs installed and usually don't have the talent for this and praise their Mac's for being stable and not crashing every 30 seconds :)

If you were a true tech geek using Linux, you would be using vi or vim. ;-)

I'm probably more HIGH TECH GEEK, when it comes to having the latest & greatest units - Mobile units, laptops, PC's (built from scratch using HIGH END cabinet, watercooling, CPU, GPU etc.)

What do you use

omg, your setup almost made me choke. I use the Wilson T-2000 with a full poly setup, and occasionally a wood racket. Occasionally, when I wish to explore my feminine side, I take out my granny racket -- a PS 6.0 95".

Notepad .... *pukes* <esc>:w

I do *all* my work on the $ prompt, iceninetx - very right you are. <esc>:w.

ClubHoUno, I appreciate your views and knowledge, but do note that today the Mac runs over a Unix kernel (Darwin), is extremely stable (I only reboot when I do an OS update) ... due to the above most if not all Linux programs run on the Mac through macports or fink. macports is similar to your apt-get. So there's tonnes of geekery that can be done on the Mac.

The Mac is (i think) the highest selling unix for the last few years (although i know you will say that many users don't even know that).

Anyway, nice to chat with you. Now I know a little more about you.
Nuke --- getting off your lawn :-D

Wow, a kindred vi spirit. I can't tell you how many times I hit <esc> even posting in these forums. :-)

I didn't even want to go there with the whole Mac/Darwin/FreeBSD thing. But since you did, I don't feel so alone with my geekiness. I've run FreeBSD since maybe 1995 or so. That's a huge reason why I really do want a Mac now. Also probably because my Vista 64 is the slowest, buggiest, most frustrating OS ever.

I'll probably also join the Mac wagon and buy a Powerbook Pro soon

They sure make some great looking products, but beauty is not everything :D

lol, hey kindred spirit , this page will b l o w your mind:
http://www.rayninfo.co.uk/vimtips.html

ClubHoUno, if you haven't guessed I use MSDOS 4 and edit with EDLIN. I am *that* old. LOL.

Yeah, I've been all over vimtips for ages. I'm old enough to not have to reference much anymore. I've had that much practice. :-)

Ditto the edlin thing. But I'm not THAT old!!!! I think I used to write menus with that when I was like 8-10 years old.

There are two sides to this argument. Sure, there are the mac fanboys who will drone on and on about how macs are superior, but there is also SIGNIFICANT merit to these arguments. I'll preface this by saying I'm a PC kind of guy, simply because I like to work on my own hardware, modify ckts, etc.

Regardless: Yes, there are fanboys who don't know what they're talking about, there are also FANS who DO know what they're talking about. The Mac OS is weird, sure, but there are definite productivity designs in place that are excellent tools that can be utilized in real life to increase the efficiency of your work flow. The software is also pretty "nifty," but also is very usable, which is what many people enjoy. PCs and Macs, IMO are converging in design (this is obvious from a hardware POV), but the software is what separates them, and makes them unique. This is neither good nor bad. You like PCs because of the freedom and volume of software, Mac fans love the stability (in general) and elegance of the software. Big deal! Get a mac book, take some REAL time to learn it, and enjoy it. There's no need to have some sort of great rift splitting the two camps.

Which is why I DESPISE the apple commercials "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC."

I honestly wish whoever came up with that GARBAGE ill will. I'm all for novel advertising, but one-sided advertising is simply irritating.

No big deal, other than you like your hardware, right? It's not something that necessarily requires added skills over "Non-HIGH TECH GEEKs." I think the big difference between the geeks and the non geeks is a tiny bit of critical thinking and a lack of fear of breaking $$$ toys. As far as mobile units, it just takes some money, custom-assembled PCs is just a bit of assembly and software installations. I crack up when I hear people talk about custom PCs and how awesome they are. It's really no big deal! Half the time you aren't saving money by doing so, you're just gaining experience and knowledge, which is the biggest savings you can get, IMO. Watercooling is similar, except the knowledge is more word-of-mouth than anything else. The design of blocks isn't generally revolutionary, save for some trail blazers (like Cathar), but I digress.

Ranting aside: Live in harmony, people, there are plenty of things that PCs can do that Macs can't, and vice versa.

Great post ! - I will in fact most likely buy my first ever Mac, a Macbook Pro laptop by the end of the year as a Christmas present for myself :D

Thanks ;)

I bet you'll soon enough be mistaken for one of the countless Mac fanboys ;)

I'm not a mac owner (price is still a little too steep for me), but I definitely think they've got some things going RIGHT for them. I might hack up one of my laptops to run Mac OSX. I think the new EEE PCs are able to run OSX, but with limited driver support for certain peripherals.

Edit: I'm sorry, i completely derailed this thread...

I'm 14. I think it's a good idea to have younger and older people on this site because in the real world young people hang out with young people and old people hang out with old people. Here, we get to hear each other's point of views.:)

after reading a lot of posts i realized most people are like 30 and older.
Im 13 myself so i was wondering if there is anyone else my age or around there instead of 30+.

No offence to old people. I'm just wondering cuz i feel lonely. :-|

LOL, I did not know 30 was old, but from a teenager who hasn't even grown any facial hair, I guess they have one foot in the grave already.
As you mature, you will see that age has nothing to do with how old someone seems to be. I am sure we have 20 year olds that sound 40, and 50 year olds that sound and act like 10.

Not really. "Macs" are built with the same parts "PCs" are built with. The only difference is the operating system, and "Macs" can run Windows. The Apple Boot Camp software even gives users a nice graphical menu when you boot the computer. You can choose your OS with a single click.
