Are there any major differences between Asics' Gel Resolution and Gel Resolution 2?

I am a big fan of Asics' Gel Resolutions. Saw the Gel Resolution 2's are out. Thinking of buying them. However, from examining pictures online of them and reading descriptions on various tennis sites (TW, ******* Sports, and *************), including Asics' own site, looks to me that the only difference is the addition of what Asics calls PGuard on the toe for added durability. Descriptions of the original Gel Resolutions don't seem to mention PGuard. Also, appears to be a little bit of a difference in the design of the upper portion as far as the exterior gray material goes, but the soles and other features of both versions appear to be identical. Anyone try the new Gel Resolution 2's? If so, assuming you tried the original ones also at some point, have you noticed any differences (for better or worse) in the feel or performance of the new Gel Resolution 2's?

Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

The Gel Resoluion 2 is lighter and has that plastic cage material similar to Nike Cages. They have the same if not more gel cushioning than before. If you like the previous version than this latest one is great. Fit seems slightly more snug where as before my heel moved around a little.

So far, one guy I know on my USTA league team who is also a big fan of the Gel Resolutions says he fells no difference so far. He just bought a pair of the blue Gel Resolution 2's and so far he says he sees no difference in performance or feel of the shoes from the original Gel Resolutions. Just wondering if anyone else who may have tried them has had similar or different experiences. Otherwise, I may just stick with the originals for as long as they are available, b/c I really like the original white/silver/black ones as those are what I have now.

The Gel Resolution 2 is the same weight but still has wide heels and tight, narrow toeboxes. Great shoes for people who have very narrow toes and use ankle braces.

I noticed they felt lighter so I looked at the specs and indeed they were slightly less weight (.1 oz). As mentioned before the feel is more snug but then again I'll see after more wearing if that holds up. Right now you can get the first Resolution for $72 assuming they have your size. The colorway is not as in your face as the second version.

Just a question, do you guys really find Asics Gel to be very well cushioned?

I just use Dr. Scholl's Massaging Gel instead...

I just switched to wearing the The Gel Resolution after years of wear Barricade II and IIIs. The Gel Resolution is most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I find them very well cushioned.

I find them to be excellent as far as cushioning goes. In fact, I had ankle and foot discomfort after playing a few hours for many months. and i tried several different shoes from Nike, Diadora, Yonex, and Wilson that were supposed to be good for support and cushioning, but none of them seemed to alleviate the discomfort. my father recommended Asics b/c he had almost the same issues with his feet. I eventually tried the Asics Gel Resolutions and the discomfort went away. The only thing I can think of is that the gel cushioning system is what alleviated the pain by providing excellent support and cushioning. i am probably going to be sticking with Asics for a while!

The Asics are more cushioned than the cheaper tennis shoes but less cushioned than the top of the line shoes like the Yonex or new Nikes. They work best if you have flat feet as they don't have a lot of arch support. If you have flatter, fatter feet, the Asics are a great choice.

Agree 100%. Durability is the only area where the Asics fall short of the Barricades. At my age, durability takes a back seat to comfort and performance. Gels wins, hands down.

OR you can throw in a pair of Superfeet Blue (Or Green) insoles and have the best of everything!

I have to use Superfeet with Nike tennis shoes to have proper arch support for my flat feet.

But with the Asics, I don't need them anymore!
I get more even wear on my outsoles than I did using the Superfeet.
Also, I save $35 from buying replacement Superfeet when I have to get new shoes.

Plus, Asics are more cushioned and supportive than any of the Nike shoes I have owned and tried! Great for the knees!

Only con is that they do have a wider ankle fit and need to use a runners lacing technique to lock down my ankles.
I don't see much effectiveness of the PHF (Personal Heel Fit).

I just don't know why they didn't offer a neutral colors in the new model.
The Blue and Orange colors are a bit loud.

I disagree. The ASICS are more cushioned than the Yonex 304/305. I didn't like the 306 much because the midcut and narrower toe box. The 306 is not as good as the older 304/305. Plus they are very hot. I play with the 304 and like them the best for my foot type. They cause more knee pain then the ASICS RES ver. 1. Ditto for the 305. That is not to say, that the Yonex is a bad shoe. I do like them(304/305) for their light weight and decent support. Yes, I have FAT FLAT FEET! The Vapor V are nice but for lower arched, they are not that good. Although the Yonex offer better cushion than the Vapor V.

Looking into the picking up a pair of the gel 2. Wondering , if the "nike "Cage-like" feel of support or it it a softer cage.

I've got the new Resolution 2's and I love them. I'm a lifetime nike tennis shoe user and decided to go with something different and I love them. I will be getting another pair for the summer.

I have worn in a pair of Gel Resolution and expecting Gel Resolution 2 to arrive on Weds night. I tried Gel Challenger 7 for fit around the house thinking it is a poor man's Gel Resolution for $10 cheaper. I sent them back because the upper didn't feel as supple and I have this weird thing that I don't want the same shoe twice. I need at least a color change LOL. I'll report back about how the new Resolution stacks up.
