Are there Filipino tennis enthusiasts here like me?

I know tennis is not a big sport in the Philippines. I mean its popularity does not match with badminton or basketball in our country right?

But I was just wondering are there any Filipinos out here too who appreciate the sport? And which cities are you guys from?

I'm from Dasmarinas, Cavite :)

I'm half Filipino and I consider myself a tennis enthusiast :)

I was born in Butuan City a long time ago, but currently I'm living in the U.S.A. and my profile describes what city I'm in.

You're right, Tennis isn't that popular in the philippines. The Top 3 Filipino Sports (In my Opinion) are Basketball, Boxing, and Rooster-Fighting. Heck, Badminton and Ping Pong are probably more popular than tennis is in the Philippines! From what I see, Tennis is viewed as an elitist rich person sport to the majority of Filipinos, so they just don't care too much about it. Hopefully this changes someday. The Philippines could really use a Manny Pacquiao like star to bring a soaring rise of tennis popularity to the Philippines :-D

I am not Filipino but everyone around here seems to be one. They are all crazy about tennis. The area I live in is sometimes called Manila Mesa.

I live near courts that are loaded with Filipinos on Monday and Tuesday evenings in the summer. They bring their chest coolers, and many bring lawn chairs, and they sit along the fence inside the courts. They all play doubles and just rotate players in and out from along the fence. They are on the courts all night ignoring the posted rules and the people following those rules waiting on the outside of the fence. It's quite annoying, actually.

The secret is to make friends with them. They are very friendly and often don't mean to keep others waiting. They are just too much into the community fun scene.

In fact, Filipinos seek me out to play with them.

You must be a good ball boy. Or helping them warm up till their partners arrive.

Come on, we all know you are overweight and can't even touch your knees :) They must be having great fun making fat guys jokes at your expense :)

I'm Filipino, but I live in Georgia.

Growing up my sports were basketball and baseball, but I picked up tennis late in my high school years.

Loved it so much (thanks to Fed), I gave up baseball and am teaching tennis full-time.

I'd love to enhance tennis in the Philippines one day when I have enough funds. Filipinos are generally pretty passionate and focused on things when they have a goal in mind, so I figure with my passion for teaching I could start something special there.

Although when Cecil Mamiit came here a few years ago for a challenger tournament, he told me he was in the midst of starting something up down there, IDK how it is now though.

Is that why they are calling me for doubles, asking me to hit singles with them, and asking me to hit with their kids before tournaments?

Naah, I am sure they are trying to get you to coach them for free, get some free tips on serving at 150mph, and also having their pictures taken with you so they can show their grandchildren one day.

If they knew you were a TTG, they'd be all over you :)
