Are your pickleball groundstrokes the same as your tennis strokes or what adjustments do you make

They are even worse than my tennis strokes. Tennis requires good footwork and balance to hit the ball with any kind of pace and control. Anything goes on a PB court which is part of it’s appeal.

I’m an evolving arms tennis player and have been an arm pickleballer. Lately I’ve begun to see the benefits of using my legs for p-ball serve and ground strokes. That has coincided with better forehand racket lag & better directional control. Oddly, p-ball may have helped me track the ball better, too—I often say “hit-bounce-hit” during points. If I’m between games at our YMCA get-togethers I’ll practice against a wall and say “hit-bounce” and practice keeping my eyes on the contact point after the ball has left my field of vision.
Our p-ball games focus on fun, not winning—I know of only one player who gets upset at their partner for losing a point. That lets me work on not looking up too early from the point of contact which actually has led to winning more points.
Knowing about better tennis helps with my pickleball even if I don’t execute as well in tennis. Some benefit has leaked back to my tennis.

In tennis I play flattish but in pickleball I find I have the Rafa Nadal high finish as my paddle has a low launch angle. Also a lot of parallel to the net arm-only shots.

i use conti grip for everything,... with slight adjustments of where the butt cap sits in the heel palm of my hand (to adjust angle as needed)
short backswing for most things... sometimes feels like a return of serve rather than full-from-behind-the-baseline-groundie

I'd say similar, but I tend to feel I exaggerate brushing the ball in PB more often than not on ground strokes. I also feel I open the paddle face more in PB than the tennis racquet in, well tennis.

I use an Eastern forehand and backhand grips. My PB stroke is more compact, but also more wristy. I hit with more topspin than most people. It allows me to swing out and hit sharper angles on drives. I also still play with a Gen 2 paddle - I like the dwell time and lack of power because I can generate my own.

I am so use to unit turn and taking a forceful swing in tennis
Court is only 1/4 o f the tennis the size and I only need swing my arm rather than unit turn/ swing with my body I do for tennis

Melatonin manufacturers should worry about pickleball. That’s how I see PB… as a sleep inducive. No judgement; that’s just my personal feeling. Heck, I may be playing at some point and am encourage that PB gets so many people off the couch and engaged in physical activity and fun.

Try playing first; I felt the same way before I stated playing. There are levels to the sport. I still play both tennis and PB, about 50/50. There are skills in PB that you have to work hard to acquire that tennis won’t necessarily give you. Both sports are fun and challenging. For your reference, my tennis level is around a 4.5.

What's your current PB level?

I'm starting to play more Padel now. Would like to reach close to level 4 within a year.

Like PB, Padel is completely different than tennis.

When im forced to play, I use the same forehand, but it was not easy with the generic paddle they gave me at the club. I went and bought one and suddenly I could use my SW grip and hit with spin, and it was fine. On the backhand I hit a 1 hander and not 2. I also mainly use pickelball singles to practice my tennis footwork. Since you have so much more time, it is a great way to get the feel of being properly balanced to hit a tennis ball. It's also a nice way to drill following shots into the net, because you pretty much have to do this in PB to be any good. In a 3rd set of tennis, it can be easy to get lazy and not follow in a deep FH hit to the corners, but PB helps enforce this behavior.

The most surprising thing about PB is from hitting the 1 handed bh so much, I have started to mess with it in tennis and it's more natural for me than I expected.

My tennis net game actually improved from playing pickleball. I think PB doubles against good players trains your reflexes.

Agreed. PB also made me comfortable approaching the net. I look to finish points up there now. Always look to come forward by habit from PB.

For Padel, its helpful for chiquitas, dinks, soft DTL passing shots and medium paced angled volleys into the fence. I'm finding overall that pickleball skills translate better to Padel than to tennis.
