TIE PREVIEW
Czech Republic will be looking to avenge a 5-0 defeat in its last Davis Cup meeting with Argentina. That meeting was a 2005 first-round clash and is the only success that the Argentineans have had in 3 Davis Cup ties between the two nations. All three previous matches have taken place on outdoor clay.

Czech Republic upset France 3-2 in the 1st round to advance to a second successive Davis Cup quarterfinal. Having fallen in the quarterfinals last year to Russia, it is bidding to reach the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time since 1996. The 1980 champion holds the record for most appearances (28) in the World Group along with Sweden and USA.

Argentina is looking to advance to its 6th semifinal in 8 years. Last year, it finished as Davis Cup runner-up for the 3rd time. Argentina eased past Netherlands 5-0 in the 1st round to reach this stage for the 8th consecutive year.

Well, It's gonna be really tough for the argies. Logic says It should be a 3-2 or 4-1 for the europeans, although I'm hoping DP wins both rubbers and Pico taking the upset against Stepanek...
Anyways, LG, what's up with the poll? "Argentina in 3"? Is that a way for saying Arg 3-2?

edit: I got it. Arg in 3 meaning he wins the first 3 rubbers. In 5 meaning 5 matches needed to take the series. Duh.

Czech Republic in 5, though I do actually think they will win the doubles. :)

there is absolutely no chance the argie doubles can win its rubber.

Del Potro takes both singles
Czech takes the doubles
Monaco / Acasuso lose their singles.

Czech 3-2 :(

If I can find ONE antecedent to give me hope, I'll say ARG in 5.

Stepanek - Monaco: 2-0. Last match, Radek won 6-1, 6-1, so no hope there.

Stepanek-Acasuso: 2-0, one on clay. The one played on hardcourts, Radek won 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(5), so that may be the upset.

Berdych vs. Monaco: 1-0, AO last year, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-2. Doable?

Berdych vs. Acasuso: 3-0, last time played on hard was in 2006, and Thomas won 6-1, 6-2

Basically, the backup singles players haven't won a single match against Czechs. So we're screwed. Doubles is all the chance we've got :(

Oh man, i hope i can make it there and take a ton of photo's, it's up to the gf,at least she has a friend in that hick town

Czech Republic in 4 or 5. I think Del Potro needs to win both his singles rubbers for them to have any chance. Can't see Argentina winning the doubles or Monaco/Acasuso winning their singles.

1st Rubber - T.BERDYCH (CZE) v. J.MONACO (ARG)
2nd Rubber - I.MINAR (CZE) v. J.DEL POTRO (ARG)
3rd Rubber - L.DLOUHY / R.STEPANEK (CZE) v. J.DEL POTRO / L.MAYER (ARG)
4th Rubber - T.BERDYCH (CZE) v. J.DEL POTRO (ARG)
5th Rubber - I.MINAR (CZE) v. J.MONACO (ARG)

Looks like Freaky Deaky Stepanek isn't playing singles. In this case, I'll take Argentina in 4.

Just an FYI, the chair umpires for this tie are Jake Garner (USA) and Kader Nouni (FRA)

If Stepanek really does not plays singles (which I doubt very much) then it all comes to the Delpo/Berdych match and it gonna be a coin toss really.

Stepanek not playing is bad..could have been a possible sweep otherwise as he would have had a shot against Delpo. Now it's up to Berdych to come through again as I don't trust Minar to beat Monaco even on a hard court .

Interesting that Monaco is ahead of Acasuso would have expected Chucho to get the singles spot on this surface.

Pico is playing with some determination, evens the score 3 games all 1st set.

Berdych is cute, but I'd rather Monaco win! :D

yes! they've added one at atdhe.net

unfortunately, pico hit long and lost his serve! :(

tomas serving for the set

yay!!! Pico breaks to begin the second!

then he consolidates 2 love!

tomas holds 1-2

wow did you see those replays? especially the running FH along the baseline by Pico where he leaped in the air like a frickin gazelle!

one wimby announcer said tomas was "a virtual Adonis of an athlete." I'd agree and claim almost the same of Pico. berd has more the face, pico has more the bod ..... these two are really well matched on this surface, too!

berd holds 2-1

=========

monaco breaks to 15 -- w/b serving 3-2

uh oh. i started watching the dubs at 5 a.m. my time, but fell asleep, woke up when it was all over. Czechs in straights today. They obviously deserved the win.

Hopefully, Delpo w/b an Argie who does better on hard. delo did lose to tomas on outdoor hard in tokyo a little less than a year ago, but if i recall correctly, he had just injured his toe and his stomach was upset by some medication ...... Berdych has been playing pretty hot (all except for his serve), but I still believe Delpo can win their match. he's had recent experience with hostile audience (french open) and as long as he maintains consistency (especially in his serve), he should be able to win his reverse singles Sunday.

Matches are scheduled to begin @ 1 p.m. Ostrava time, which is 4 a.m. Kalifornia time and 11 a.m. GMT.

Looks grim for the Argies, Delpo can take Bird but the Czechs'll probably line up The Worm against Monaco, since he had an easy doubs.
