Most of the top 14 Argentine tennis players (within the top ATP 200) have signed a letter and sent it to the President of the Argentine Tennis Federation asking for an immediate replacement of Gustavo Luza, the actual Davis Cup Team Captain. The letter -which is a total suprise to most of the tennis community- was signed by Guillermo Coria, David Nalbandian, Agustín Calleri, Juan Chela, Mariano Zabaleta, José Acasuso, Gastón Gaudio, Guillermo Cañas, Martín Rodríguez, Gastón Etlis, Lucas Arnold, Mariano Hood, Sebastián Prieto and Martín García.
The players have expressed their interest in having any of the ex-players Martin Jaite or Alberto "Luli" Mancini as the new captain of the national Davis Cup team.
The Argentine Tennis Federation (AAT) commented that the captain in not chosen by the players, and that Luza's contract is valid till the end of December 2004.
However, given the fact that all the best players (except Squillari, Juan Monaco and Puerta) have openly expressed their decision, the days of Luza in command of the Argentine team seem to have come to an end (TO BE CONTINUED).

It was a loud "rumour" that many of the players didn't like the way that Luza handled the team before the Davis Cup tie in Belarus.
Luza decided to call the young and inexperienced Juan Monaco to replace Chela (who rejected to play)...when he could have called Zabaleta, Gaudio or others to cover that spot. Zabaleta and Gaudio lost their matches in Spain last year during the semis of the Davis Cup, so many that the fact they were not called toplay in Belarus was a direct consequence of the 2-3 loss in Spain.
Also, Coria and Nabaldian (the core of the team right now) are known to have had lots of discrepancies with Luza. The last -but not least- important fact is that Argentina has a great doubles team that won many titles and even played the semis in the Masters in Houston last year..but they were NEVER given the oppportunity to play for their country (Etlis-Rodriguez).
