Yeah. They have both nylon and sg options. Reels too I thinkWould anyone have information on this? Or if we can purchase the same synthetic gut, that comes with Ashaway Crossfire II, separately?
so I was wrong about the reels it seems but all the descriptions on their website says synthetic gut. EDIT. there are reels just not on TW. Maybe you can ask them or check the usual suspects.Would anyone have information on this? Or if we can purchase the same synthetic gut, that comes with Ashaway Crossfire II, separately?
You weren’t wrong. They do have both syn gut and nylon.so I was wrong about the reels it seems but all the descriptions on their website says synthetic gut. EDIT. there are reels just not on TW. Maybe you can ask them or check the usual suspects.
Here is their sg

right but what is the difference? all the crossfire packets say syngut. The syngut is $2 more per pack it seemsYou weren’t wrong. They do have both syn gut and nylon.
That’s because syn gut is just another name for nylon.
That’s because the marketing term “synthetic gut” commands a $2 premium over the more generalized boring term “nylon.” No actual physical difference. Same thing. And the word “polyamide” would command a lower price than both despite describing the material better.right but what is the difference? all the crossfire packets say syngut. So liberty nylon and syngut are the same? That’s because the marketing term “synthetic gut” commands a $2 premium over the more generalized boring term “nylon.” No actual physical difference. YesSo liberty nylon and syngut are the same?
So they package the same string, call it syngut and charge $2 more?
Liberty is their marketing name for a string that is nylon solid core surrounded with a ring of smaller nylon filaments. Strings made from nylon with this construction are generally known as synthetic gut. They may have multiple gens of packaging. So they package the same string, call it syngut and charge $2 more?
They have syngut 16 and nylon 16. $2 more for the syngut. Its not there now but TW used to sell packs of bothLiberty is their marketing name for a string that is nylon solid core surrounded with a ring of smaller nylon filaments. Or maybe it’s like rental cars when the same company rents out cars as Budget or as Avis charging $3 more per day, but it’s the same company and same cars, trying to corner market by offering multiple price points?
Thanks. That clears it up!![]()
Tournament Nylon (Liberty)
Thinner core, slightly thicker and fewer outer strands for same gauge
![]()
Synthetic gut
Thicker core, slighty thinner and more outside stands for same gauge - I think better feel in my experience
In some rackets TN can SG can play very similar - Ashaway is unique as they have same gauge in both "variations"
In other words it’s the rental car thing.Thanks. That clears it up!
But those are 2 dif companies renting cars. This is the same company renting the same car at different pricesIn other words it’s the rental car thing.
You mean you didn’t know that Avis and Budget are the same company? Or that Alamo and National annd Enterprise are the same company? But those are 2 dif companies renting cars. This is the same company renting the same car at different prices
Nah. I haven’t been in the 100k club for 20 years. But the analogy doesnt track. Are you saying Ashaway has another business name they sell strings under? Other string companies they own?You mean you didn’t know that Avis and Budget are the same company? Or that Alamo and National annd Enterprise are the same company?
I’m saying that Ashaway is selling two products that any other company could call either tournament nylon or synthetic gut. They are slight varients of same stuff, apparently.Nah. And these aren’t the same cars.
Prince and Forten offer both nylon and syngut options.I’m saying that Ashaway is selling two products that any other company could call either tournament nylon or synthetic gut. They are slight varients of same stuff, apparently.
It’s like when you have your reservation with Alamo. You show up at the Alamo rental counter but nobody is there. But 20 feet away there’s a nice smiley gal with eyelash extensions and a too-tight blouse sitting in a stool at the National counter. She hollers “I’ll help you over here.”Prince and Forten offer both nylon and syngut options.
But did you ask him which car rental company he uses??So I found some form on their website and filled it out asking my question to the Ashaway team and their president, Julian, replied back saying its the Synthetic Gut 16 string that comes packaged with the Kevlar string in the Ashaway Crossfire II set. Thanks everyone for your input once again.
