Ashaway Kevlar hybrid sets facts

I purchased one of all the hybrid sets that Ashaway sells that contains a Kevlar half set and here is what they contain:

1. Crossfire II is 16 gauge plain Ashaway Kevlar and 16g Ashaway syn gut. $11.30

2. Crossfire 17 is 17 gauge plain Ashaway Kevlar and 16g Ashaway syn gut. $11.30

3. Crossfire 18 is 18 gauge plain Ashaway Kevlar and 16g Ashaway syn gut. $11.30

4. Crossfire ZX is 17 gauge plain Ashaway Kevlar and 17 gauge Ashaway ZX Pro (zyex) $15.50

5. Crossfire +Plus is 17 Ashaway Kevlar +Plus and 16g Ashaway syn gut. $11.30

If a person wants to try out 17 or 18 gauge Ashaway Kevlar then buying the Crossfire 17 or 18 is the cheapest way to get your hands on those gauges of Ashaway Kevlar through a retail source. You can buy half sets of 16 gauge Ashaway Kevlar exclusively through TW: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/searchresults.html#search=products&searchtext=1/2 set&opt_page=1&opt_sort=priceAcc&opt_perpage=20

I can get a half set of Ashaway Kevlar for $4.95 and buy a 200' reel of ZX Pro for $68.00, so I tend now to buy half sets of Kevlar and the short reel of ZX Pro for my experiments. I think these two strings in those quantities are a TW exclusive.

I don't use Ash Kevlar with syn gut any longer, so will be putting the 5 half sets of Ash syn gut in the string box. I probably won't use the Kevlar +Plus as I don't like it so it to will go in the box. I did waste some money, not much, to see what actually is in those Crossfire hybrid sets.

I would not use the 18 gauge Kevlar w/18 gauge cross. The mains (Kevlar) will start moving around way too fast.

The Crossfire 18g Kevlar appears to be paired with a 16g syn gut cross. In fact all the Crossfires, except for Crossfire ZX have the same syn gut.

So you were wrong all along when you said the Crossfire Zx hybrid pack comes with the Kevlar + with PTFE filaments?

Oddly, the 18g Kevlar locked up on the 4 center mains. And as they went further out they did slide but the syn gut dented too much. However, I did string 68/60.
I told you so. There's nothing to hold the mains in place with an 18 g cross and the braided Kevlar will saw through the crosses too fast.

Now that you have 17 g in the crosses it may be better but the ZX Pro may be too slippery and you may have the same problem. If I wanted to try ZX I'd go with the 16 gauge. Even better use a 17 g poly cross with 18 g Kevlar. Just my 2 cents. Let us know how it works for you.

EDIT: Not sure but I'm thinking your saying you are reusing the 18 g Kevlar in the mains. Check the length of the frame if you are.

Yes, I am an unintentional liar: Here is the truth:

If you are in CONUS I'll send you my set of this to you if you send me a PM with your address.

I just ordered two packs of Crossfire ZX and it comes with the Kevlar + with PTFE filaments, guess you were right the first time round?
