Yes, great timing! We actually have it in stock and are getting it ready to put up on the site. It should be available very soon.

Thanks,

nikkhasnis,

We are not selling reels at this time. However, I will pass along your request to our hard goods buyer.

Hi Brittany,

Would it be possible for the TW Professor to test the 17g Pro version, and in particular to put the string through his pre-stretch protocol?

Thanks!

Could he also consider putting the ZX 16g through his pre-stretch protocol? The ZX string is extremely popular on the talktennis forums. There is a 65 page thread on this string.

Would he also consider testing some kevlar strings? At present, there are no kevlar strings that TWU has tested. Kevlar is again very popular amongst talktennis members.

A bit of a long shot, would he consider testing the red color of ZX? There are reports that it plays differently to the natural color.

Thanks

Just bought more packs of this string. I like it as it plays closest to poly without the arm pain. I got tennis elbow so had to move away from polys. Still have 4-5 packs of volkl cyclone at home but can't use them :-(

I read that pre stretching the Ashway makes it easier to string. Can you please give me some techniques or tips to pre stretch the string? I would hate to keep breaking this. Getting a bit heavy on the pocket as well. For $120, I am better off buying a reel, if TW has it.

Thanks,

Nikhil

I started off with 60lbs tension, dropped to 55lbs by the 3rd string.

First broke while tying knots.

Second broke while doing the crosses

3rd broke on the first cross

Man, do they stretch...

I have strung many other strings including volkl cyclone 18, technifiber NRG2 17, solinco bite 18, nxt tour, but none of then snapped...

They just snapped as you were streching them out on the tensioner?

I have a drop weight stringer. They snapped as I was adjusting the tension ie moving the stringer arm to tighten the string tension. By the 3rd time, I was waiting more than 5 seconds after adjusting the tension to let the string stretch fully.

One thing I noticed, the bend on the string when its tightened on the wheel connecting the stringer arm is much more than any other string. I won't be surprised if that causes the break.

You were physically moving the tensioning arm downwards to stretch? If so, that's your bad, that goes (way) over reference tension. The drop weight arm should always come to rest by itself. If you can confirm there was no stringer error, I'd hit up TW and check for any reports of defective sets, it's possible they replace your sets.

Unfortunately I have already thrown the broken strings. But don't fret, I have ordered more, so there's possibility for more breakage :cry::cry:

if you could video yourself stringing it during the part where it usually breaks, then we could probably figure out what's happeneing.

Hi Nikhil,

Yes, pre-stretching it will drain some of the coil memory and make it easier to handle. You will want to find a very sturdy round beam and wrap the string around it and pull both ends just past the pressure needed to make it taught - hold for around 20 seconds. This is a light pre-stretch. Do not over-pull as this string has a low tensile strength.

Additionally, if you are breaking it during installation, I would lower your reference tension by a little and make sure not to pull too hard on knots. Also, be careful not to over or under clamp as both crushing and shredding the string can lead to premature breakage.

Hope this helps,
Jon

I have had it with these string. Another one gone. Broke on the 6th cross. tension down to 55lbs. Pre stretched, though not a lot as I haven't done it before. $60 down so far. It's really not worth that much. I can send the broken piece so you can see where it broke. Not at the knot, not where the clamps were applied. Just broke at the grommet. Am stringing a Prince O3 Exo and it broke at the O port, so it's not like the grommet was faulty. I was stringing very slowly, letting the drop weight come to stop on it's own. I am concerned that the constant stress may break my racket.

Can I exchange the other 4 packs please?

Do you have a good brake for the Exos when stringing the crosses? If not, I'd try stringing the crosses using the 50/50 method. This will make your pulls much more straight.

hi mikeler,

That's a good question. One even i was thinking off. Is there anything that can help me with stringing the o ports? they get tricky as the pull is at an angle. What i do is put the string through the next cross and pull it, then clamp the previous cross. I tried to hold the racket at an angle with my body, but the machine is too light and moves.

To do the 50/50 method, I guess I will have to do a 2 piece job, right? In that case, where do I begin my crosses from? 9th and 10th cross?

The problem (I think) with the monogut is that it kinks very easily. And the drop weight "wheel" really pinches the string. i think that's where they snap from. especially if the kink falls on a grommet edge.

Call up customer service and point them to this thread if they require any history. It'll get you a resolution faster than posting to the boards.

Edit: Have your order number ready, and hopefully you didn't throw out the return shipping label...

Thanks diredesire.

I called them last night and placed an order for 5 sets of Technifiber NRG2 17.

Will return the remaining 4 monoguts today.

The NRG2 are good for my arm (struggling with TE right now, though much much better than 2 months ago), but the monogut were much closer to polys and IMO were generating more spin.

It really does not matter where you start, it will come out correctly. Obviously, the closer to the center you start the easier it is to string. My guess is those funky pull angles are what is killing the string.

TW, do you know if the Monogut ZX Pro (1.22) 200 foot mini reel in Natural will be restocked?

Thanks.

AceyMan,

Unfortunately, it does not look like we are expecting any more stock of this string in the mini reel in the natural color.

Thanks,
Brittany, TW

Thanks TW. That's too bad, since the half reel cost more meter (makes no sense) and I don't use enough to really need more than the 200' offered.

Also the Black (that's left / I'm guessing it won't be restocked either) is a bit of a different string so it's not a direct replacement.

Oh well.

You are correct with the black as well. We are not expecting any more once we sell out.

Thanks,
