****Asian K90/nCode 90/PS Tour 90/K95/nCode 95 Club ****

Oh man, I just strung Babolat Pro Hurricane 16 in the mains with PSGD 17 crosses at 50/55 and it's RIDICULOUS. The way I would put power into my APDC strung with full poly at 60# into my n95 made most of my shots out, but I had some crazy Federer shots.. I guess I just have to adjust my game a bit. I'm going to string my other two as :
NEW MAIN:
K-Gut16 (70) mains, ProHurricane16 (65)
Racket I was talking about earlier:
ProHurricane16 (50) mains, PSGD17 (55)
Older version n95 (Black W on throat):
PSGD17 (50) mains, ProHurricane16 (45)

Experimenting is fun. :)

Hi there Breakpoint,

Great thread. Have you hit with a RDS001 mid? If so could you comment on how it feels compared to an Asian Ncode 90 or AK90? I'm mainly interested in the power, spin and serve differences and or similarities.

I'm no BreakPoint, but I have played with both and actually had a session where I compared the AK90 and the RDS001 during the same session.
My quick findings:
Overall the RDS001 seemed less responsive to topspin for me although it had a wonderful overall soft feel to it. Serves had more pop with the AK90 and just seemed to have more pop on all the shots. Flatter groundies though were really really nice with the RDS001. I think if I was a baseliner I would have appreciated the RDS001 more but since I'm more a S&V / All-courter the AK90 gave me a bit more versitility. I don't know if that helps or not.

so the K90 would be lighter than the USA ones. DOes the performance differ?

The AK90 (Asian K90) is lighter than the regular 'stock' K90. I would say performance is affected only minimally. You do get a bit more 'stick' on the ball with the US version due to it's weight, so if you can handle it's higher swingweight, then go for it. If you need something that you can whip / come around the ball with easier than go with the AK90. Otherwise they are very nearly identical. I now use the AK90 as my main stick but I've played with the regular K90 a few times and it's really so similar.

PeterFig,

I respectfully disagree with your finding comparing stock AK90 to stock US K90. I find the AK90 to be anemic in all departments in STOCK form. That said, the AK90 leaves room for customization to one's liking.

Now I have it leaded up to 350 grams, 9 pt HL, however, it is like a dream come true.

I think like with anything else there is no right or wrong answer. The perception difference between the two of us may be due to differences in our playstyle, level, technique, etc... For instance I take long (too long) swings at the ball so I'm looking for a bit lighter racquet that can help me when that loooong swings comes in a bit late.... but because the swing is long and I can generate a lot of pace with it I'm not as aware of the mass difference in the racquet that a shorter swing may be more defendant on when the ball is timed right. That's just one guess. :)

As for customizing .... I've played more or less stock (minus overgrip and dampner) but I'm just now starting to experimenting with a bit of weight added so who knows ... I may be in 100% agreement with you shortly :)

Looking at your youtube video, our FHs look similar actually. (nice racket, by the way.) :)

PeterFig, what is the string setup you use in the AK90?

Hehehe - well hopefully you don't have that crazy flying elbow I have that only Stefan Edberg could be proud of. I'm trying very hard to tame it but it's a habit that's hard to break. When I first started playing I didn't really know much about proper technique etc so I just tried to (badly) emulate Edberg's strokes as I liked him back then ..... you don't wanna see the back bend on my serves :) Now I'm stuck with some of these bad little habits that after years of not getting lessons to fix are hard to finally correct.

Right now (for the last month or two) I've been using X-One Biphase 17's on the crosses and Signum Pro 17's for the mains .... at 60#
I'm actually quite happy with them. The crosses go on my after about 10-15 hours of play but I like the playability and comfort of the setup. I tried quite a few combinations of strings over the last year and this is probably my favorite setup.

Edberg was my favorite player too. Stefan's backhand was just beautiful and so was his net game. My FH is also erratic and my letdown during matches.

I'm not sure where you're located so I'll narrow it down from top to bottom :)

Canada >> British Columbia >> Langley >> Hazelemere Tennis & Golf Club

I thought that is Grant Connell Center. We are from the same club, and I helped with your AK90 purchase.
BTW, nice video, you look in good form.

Well hello!!!! - fancy meeting you here on the boards :)
I'm not sure about the 'good form' ..... I was happy with my form, then I shot the video and watched myself play ..... I was frightened by what I saw. I knew before that some of my shots (and for sure my footwork) needed some tweaking - but seeing the video showed just how wrong some of my technique is :) A bit of a wakeup call.

Yes, his game was beautiful to watch. I have a couple of his matches on DVD (becker wimbledon final and courier us open final). I've watched them a few times - but it's quite amazing especially from the wimbledon final how short the points were ... 2-3 hits at most. really hard to see his great shots in action. It's almost better to watch him on a slower surface where actual rallies occur to really appreciate his shots and footwork.

Hey guys, I just bought a K95 16x18 racquet, but it's 11.7 oz so I can assume it's asian k95 anyway, for those who have played with both can you guys givem e a brief description? Thankis

Is that 11.7 oz. strung or unstrung? If it says 11.7 oz. on the spec sticker inside the throat then that for unstrung so it NOT an Asian version but a normal standard version.

I'm considering picking up an ex-demo n90 this weekend if it's still around. A little beat up, strings frayed to hell, but so so beautiful.

No, it isn't the Asian version, so this doesn't really belong here, but at least I can feel like one of your group's distant cousins :P

ah..it says 11.7 oz 332 grams so it must be the US version but it says made in China so I assmume it's still a normal one?

ALL Wilson racquets regardless of if it's an Asian or US or any other version are ALL made in China (as are almost all other brands of all tennis racquets).

Please! Help! Does AK 90 come with Leather grip

I just bought a AK90 through **** and i know it's fake because of the very poor paint job. Also, the grip and everything.
ak90 comes with leather grip correct?

Thanks.

Yes AK90 comes with orange/brown leather grip but the paint job on k90/ak90 is very cheap, you can very easely mark the raquet when you string it for example.
Have you try to remplace the leather grip of the AK90 with only on overgrip (about 10gr.)?
I've just done it and wow!!! i'm very impressif now, the raquet feel very more lively, much more power on my forehand, in fact i retrived the feel i had with my ps 6.0 95, very easy to move, very easy to get raquet head speed, great control and precision, and great touch and very solid even with 10gr. less (my raquet should be around 330gr. now)
With leather grip on it it feel all mute. what do you think?

They're all over China. I also saw some in Hong Kong last weekend, although the poster Breakpoint says the model is no longer being made. Despite this, I've seen them in all the tennis shops in China - legit ones - I've checked and friends have bought them.

The Amer Sports rep in Shanghai directed me to the authorized dealers in my city, so I assume they are still being made in China.

You can also find them in online tennis shops in Korea and Japan, although prices are high.

There's a guy out of Malaysia selling them on the bay. He appears to be legit. Do a search for "Wilson Tour 90 320" [that's grams weight of the Asian version]. You have to do a worldwide search to find it though. You should be able to get them from him for around $160 shipped to US.

I'm hoping Wilson will resurrect the 6.0 95 (Tour 95) in the next go-round.

i get mine in Taipei when i visit.

it really is funny how the players i hit with over there wants the standard version while some of us wants the lighter version they have.

have bought 2x Asian n90, 2x Asian n95, 2x Asian k90 and 2x Asian k95 in the last couple of years during my trips.

sold my Ks cause for some reason i just didnt like them.

Hey Krystof, have you purchased from this company? If so, are you absolutely certain they're selling genuine racquets? I ask because the site looks pretty fishy. Thanks.

Yes is from there i bought my 4 ak90 but the initialy the website was vtankv and they were absorbe by gtbshop.
A friend of mine bought also 3 ak90 there and 1 k90 (us version) but for the k90 the balance is very wrong for a prostaff wilson.
So for ak90 no pb for me shouldn't be a copy but for the k90 i've got doubt.

Thanks Kryztof. Have you weighed and measured the balance on your AK90s?

One weight 320 gr. and second 321 gr. unstrung and 30.5cm for the balance strung and with leather grip.

Thanks again Kryztof, the weights sound perfect. But the Asian K90 should have a strung balance of 32.5 cm. Are you sure you measured correctly?

yes i recheck this morning and one is 30.5 and second 30.8cm almost like my ps 6.0 85.

Those balance points are almost 2 cm short of what they should be. I don't think those racquets are genuine. Maybe Breakpoint can chime in - he's got a lot of experience with this racquet, and has said that Wilson has made three versions since its release, each one varying in balance and swingweight. But I don't think they varied that much - more like 32cm-32.5cm.

Have you taken off the trap door in the butcap to see what's inside? That is one way to check for authenticity.

Anyway, with balance that short (30.5) on a racquet with pretty low swingweight (~320) the hittingweight must be really low and consequently the power on groundstrokes must be very poor. I bet they volley nicely though.

Hi Wilson fellas, I'm a proud owner of an K6.1 95 18x20. Recently i had an injury and i decided to order an K-SixOne Team 95 through the e bay...
It coust 90$. The seller was Spanish and claims all the products are 100% genuine and lots of other buyers left amazing feedback about the trade.

How do i identify a fake?
How do i open the buttcap and close it again?

I would be happy if you help me out in this fellas.
Thanks in advance ;)

Asian K90

Actually, I think the K90 is closer to what Federer is using than the Japanese Special Signature Edition nCode 90. The Japanese SSE nCode 90 still has the long pallet/grip of the standard nCode 90. I think it also has the same composition, nCoded materials, and muted feel of the standard nCode 90. This was mostly unique in the Japanese market because they normally get the lighter 320g Asian version of the nCode 90 and not the heavier 340g standard US version of the nCode 90, which this was. So I think the only difference between the Japanese SSE version and the US version of the nCode 90's was the Japanese SSE version had the wider string spacing and Federer's prinited signature decal on the side. Oh yeah, and it came with Luxilon Big Banger ALU Rough and Wilson gut strings, plus a nice poster of Federer. ;) :D

OTOH, the K90 has both the shorter pallet/grip and wider string spacing, just like Federer's actual racquet, and it also feels much closer to the PS 6.0 (that Federer used to use) than the nCode 90 does.

Folks,
Where can I purchase a couple of Asian K90's?
Thank You

Wilson officially stopped making them a year ago but I hear you can still find them here and there in Asia. Perhaps leftover inventory? Probably hard to find though.

However, be very careful of fakes. Tons of them floating around in Asia, especially in China. I would only buy from an authorized Wilson distributor.

BP,

What tension and string setup are you using with your AK 90's? Thx.

Still playing with AK90?

I picked up 2 AK90s in a trade recently and have enjoyed my first week of hitting with these wonderful sticks.

I now know the meaning of demanding, but I can't put them down. After 4 days of play, I have a little shoulder pain and wrist discomfort, but I'm hoping this will subside - I'll try with a little less tension tomorrow. I've never served better. Great placement & superb for my 1hbh.

This is an old thread. Are there still people out there playing with this stick, ie. BP, others?

Yeah, currently playing with one at 345grams/31.5cm/322 swingweight w/ Gut/Prince Recoil at 50/48. Very comfortable, precise and powerful with this string setup. I'm planning on a big demo session in a couple months and if nothing beats out the AK90 I'll stock up on them.

Stock up where and how? AFAIK, Wilson stopped producing them a year ago. Are you sure the ones being sold in stores now aren't fakes?

As sure as I can be, which isn't 100% unfortunately. As the Amer Sports Rep in Shanghai recently referred me to two authorized dealers in response to my query about where I could buy AK90s, I think the racquets at these dealers are definitely legit. The AK90s in the shops near those two, and who were not specified as authorized by Amer, carry frames identical to the others. I've carefully inspected them, measured weight and balance, etc. I have seen some fakes, but those were the obvious ones. All those frames that passed the visual tests have also spec'd out OK, so I can only ASSUME they are real.

Funny how even though the Amer rep recommended these two dealers I'm still not 100% sure - things are simply too corrupt for words on the mainland - Anything could happen - at the factory, at the distributor, at the rep's office, at the shop. The frame I have I bought from a TW poster, but have recommended these local ones to friends, have hit with them, etc.

I'll call the rep again and see if I can get confirmation that they've stopped producing AK90s.
