Asics Court FF3

Did you use res8 ?
I did. I used the Gel Res 8 as my shoe from the time they came out until early last summer. The supply shortage forced me to grab a pair of FF2, drop down a 1/2 size to 9.5, and wear a thinner pair of socks. Was snug but way better than Size 10. I actually enjoyed the FF2’s but not a fan of the FF3’s. I played in my GR9’s today and they are a keeper. Now just waiting for them to release navy blue model.

Do res9s have a better stable snug ? Better lockdown on the heel and overall quicker actions ?….. cause 8s are a little bit fluffy…. more on comfort and plushness and less on stability.

They fit me perfect throughout. I didn’t feel any heel slippage. The tongue is definitely padded and not sure how I feel about it. I would say this shoe has all the comfort you need, and all the stability as well.

The first 5-6 pairs of 8’s I played in were a perfect fit at Size 10 and my Stance basketball socks (thick socks), but when I bought the models released in 2022 the 10’s were snug and I could not wear my Stance socks, I had to go to a thinner Nike tennis sock. The 10’s are definitely back to being 10’s and I need to wear my Stance socks for a good fit.

is GR9 true to size? I ordered half size smaller for GR8. Thanks.

“The Court FF3 will initially launch in two versions, the mainline Court FF3 and the Court FF3 Novak, which includes tweaks specific to Djokovic. Raucher says Asics didn't make the Court FF3 line fully a signature model for Djokovic to ensure the brand has a shoe that benefits as many people as possible. That way, consumers can choose between the FF3 and the FF3 Novak. With so many brands creating custom shoes not available at retail for top athletes, he says the Court FF3 Novak available in the store is the same version that he's wearing on the court. The Novak model also features the athlete's logo on the heel, additional design elements specific to him and colorways unique to Djokovic.”

Asics did this with the FF 2 as well.

Compared to FF 2, the design is very similar, but there are some minor changes:

AbFAkAS.jpg

  • More cushioning (Flytefoam) in the heel of the FF 3
  • Removal of the plastic heel wrap around
  • The new lacing system no longer uses circular eyelets
  • Shoelaces are thicker
  • New three-piece sole
  • Toe guard less bulky
  • The toe guard and p-guard are not as high on the shoe
  • Tongue slightly narrower
  • Slightly different designs/patterns on the upper plastic meshing
  • Mesh stops before it reaches the heel
  • Upper more breathable
  • Slightly easier to get on
  • Heavier

Which one is better?

Which one is better?
I don't think one is better than the other. I just see the FF 3 as a continuation of the FF 2, which was already a great shoe. It didn't become better or worse, just a few minor changes.

In my opinion, if you liked the FF 2, you will also like the FF 3. But if you disliked the FF 2, then the FF 3 probably won't change your mind. Maybe the better lacing, more breathable/softer upper and more cushion in the heel could change some minds.

Looking back on this thread where it was disputed ASICS released a slight variation to FFS novak

it seems the reality it is slightly differnt he NovaK ff3 versus the standard FF3

nice to know

All this sounds good to me over the FF2. Early reviews have been excellent. Waiting for mine to try them on.

Agree very silly move from ASICS

I mean they looked so good

and no plans to release them I understand ?

Not sure what they are doing but not excited about the colorways they have opened up with.

Check out this video...some other ones that would have been good. I like the white/blue/yellow.

Thanks for posting this. Was curious about upcoming Solution Speed colors. Not thrilled with any of these...maybe the wine red will look okay.

Kinda hoping that black/pink from the FF3s makes its way to the speeds but I doubt it.

Just played in my pair of FF3s this weekend - and my feet, knees, and hips are still sore. I was hoping that Asics would improve the cushioning and energy return with this version of the shoe. They did not.

The new heel design in particular makes for a very firm feel underfoot. It makes sense that if you have a divided heel outsole that there is less room for cushioning. These are going back.

Thats too bad. I just ordered a few pairs and looking forward to them.

But then Im used to Ubersonics which have no cushioning so maybe it'll be a step up from them.

The Asics Court FF3 is not a big departure from the previous model. The shoes continues to be the standard for those all-court players who want to scramble in all directions and slide into their shots - like Djokovic who apparently helped design this new version. For that, these shoes continue to excel. The mono-sock design again engulfs your foot and the new lacing system does a better job of locking your foot in to the shoe. I thought the shoe felt more breathable than the previous version - so many of the complaints about the last version seem to have been addressed. I was hoping that Asics would improve the cushioning for the rest of us. While on court performance might be excellent, the shoe is quite firm underfoot. The new heel on this version - in particular - has nearly no cushion. After an hour of hitting in this shoe, my feet were throbbing, my knees were sore, and my hips ached. While these shoes might be great for Novak, they are not for everyone. The comfort level is sorely lacking. I guess these shoes were just designed for professional athletes without any joint issues. I was disappointed.

Ubersonics feel like bedroom slippers compared to the FF3. Honestly felt like I had bricks strapped to my feet.

Weird. I returned my Court FF3s to stay in the FF2s because I thought the heel cushioning was overdone compared to the lower-to-the-ground feel of the FF2s. And the Ubersonics felt like I had nothing underfoot when I tried them compared to any Asics shoe.

Just goes to show we all have different feet and what works/doesn't I guess.

If I had to guess, I would say the new heel design has a lot to do with the cushioning issues in the FF3. Asics split the heel in half so a deep valley divided the heel. There is no cushioning placed where this is no sole or midsole - in the "valley". Essentially, they put a plastic ridge under your heel.

I currently wear the Solution Speeds and really like how light on foot they feel. I tried on Gel Res 8s and they felt really clunky to me walking around in. How do the Court FF 2/3s compare? I'm tempted to try them out, but at the high price point I'm not sure if it's worth the risk.

I have four pairs of Solution Speeds.

I want to try the Gel Resolution or Court FF 2/3 but keep buying more pairs of Solution Speeds.

They're lightweight and my feet never hurt after playing in them.

I guess if it ain't broke there's no need to fix it.

i totally disagree, have no idea what you are talking about. sounds like a complete different shoe than my ff3.

the padding feels thicker from toe to heel than the ff2, little wider in the forefoot, slight raise in the heel no longer gives that clown shoe raise in the front mid.

played with them a greuling session last night, felt great after ten minutes break in. creasing across the top of left shoe, but that will go away as ive had that with some ff2.

just another level up from the ff2. feels like im playing on a cloud!

these shoes really upped my level of play.
my suggestion: dont but these shoes. we have enough good players around without having a new wave of them rolling over us, that these ff3 would create.

btw, just to be clear, i have the novak ff3, and cannot speak for the regular ff3, which i hear there are difference between the two.

The FF2 was no different between the Novak and non-Novak pair, except for the markings. I doubt there is any difference with the FF3. However, I agree with your post above, to me, they are very different shoes: roomier, better padding, especially in the back, Lacing, definitely slightly raised heel that does not give me any Achilles issues FF2 did.
the sole durability is the same - will not last too long. Mine is already wearing out after bout 2-3 weeks of tennis.

Just tested FF3 for the second time. I prefer them over FF2 because they are closer to true size (less roomier on toes) so i am not sure if you should go half size down like FF2s. A little bit more breathable, "put in" is easier, upper part softer, same stability and lockdown, you don’t feel the increased weight and a little bit more soft ride. But my honest opinion is that differences are minimal. If you found FF2s at better price go for them. Personally i ll stick with resolutions.

Think I would agree here. Already sent mine back but if I order them again in the future I’ll try normal size rather than 1/2 down as I do with the FF2s because there was some pinching/tightness around the outside toes that I would never get with the 2s. As it happens I recently bought another FF2 for future stock. Love it.

I just tested the FF 3 Novaks after breaking them in, these are quick impressions.

I will try to post an update after a month of use for a more accurate comparison.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I always substitute in powerstep or super feet insole for my shoes--I have high arches.

Pros:
  • Tighter fit (I prefer this), great lock down on the ankle--I usually size down 0.5 my tennis shoes and was able to do so with the FF 3 Novaks as well.
  • Stiffer/thicker(?) sole and softens as you break it in
    • Time will tell if this translates to better durability but the FF 2s feel more comfortable and softer for me doing an "A-B comparison"
  • Traction is maybe a little better but these are obviously new compared to my FF 2s
    • FF 2s got a bit slippery on dusty courts--this may have better traction in those scenarios but just conjecture
      • This can be both a pro and a con since having a little more slide potential can be advantageous for experienced heavy sliders
  • Blue/orange colorway is actually quite nice and 'pops'
Cons:
  • Requires 1 - 2 days on the court to break-in (maybe I haven't even fully broken them in yet tbh)
    • Off the bat, these are stiffer and less plush feeling than the FF 2
  • More expensive for more of less an small iteration update
    • nothing 'wowed' me like the first time I played in the FF 2s
  • Less mudguard seen here which is counterintuitive for a shoe made for sliding
    • This is where I start to see wear and create holes in my FF 2s
  • My feet feel higher off the ground when walking/running in FF 3s
    • could be thicker sole and more material but need to verify this

the real question is how hard is it to put on the shoes? never liked these one-piece bootie construction shoes with no heel tabs

To each their own. Maybe you don't have flat feet and weigh 275 pounds like I do. I stick with my findings - the shoe feels great walking around but when you play in them, they definitely lack cushioning IMO - especially in the heel.

im 210 lbs. i dont wear socks. it feels even cushioned from heel to toe. feels quite level.
maybe if i went down a hlaf size, it would feel less. but feels a bit roomy now, since no socks.

I bought a pair of the Court FF 3 in a size 9, and am considering if I should try to exchange them for an 8.5. I wear a 9.5 in the Solution Speeds, seems hard to believe I'd need an 8.5 in Court FF3s. Anybody have any thoughts on sizing on these?

Same here. I wear a size 9 (US) about 2 times, it felt too much room in toe area, bought a 8.5 and thicker socks also (solinco heaven socks).

8.5 seems to fit snug with thicker socks, but will test it on court tomorrow. My GR 8 is 9 (US) anyway.

I noticed my 3-star review on TW for the FF 3 Novaks has not been approved for a week or so.

I never had that happen before but anyways, just thought I would note that here.

Any comparison with Speed FF2? It the new Gel Resolution 9.
Curious which one offers the best support to avoid knee injuries

If you want to prioritize cushioning, the Gel res line up is worth trying out first.

I do know some wide footers can have issue with fit so buy from a retailer you can easily return and exchange.

They also offer wider E fits for the 8 and I believe 9s (someone correct me tho).
