Asics Gel Res 7: Toe Guard Durability

kvan

Semi-Pro
Has anyone else suffered from the fairly poor toe guard durability of the Gel Res 7s? I've found the shoe to be comfortable and fit well for me, but this could be a dealbreaker in the long run.

The Gel Res 4s are some of my favorite shoes of all time, but I'm really missing the buffed medial-side toe guard when sliding laterally.

I have not had this issue with the Gel Res 7s. I found that the toe guard was fairly good quality, never completely sanding away after my 7 months of play in them. And I have had issues with this before on other shoes, just not to that bad an extent with the Gel Res 7s.

This is coming from my comparison to other shoes like the Head sprint pros, Gel Res 6s, Adidas Barricade Classic, and the Solution speed 2.

Have you had this issue with other shoes?

It’s a long shot, but is the length of your shoe correct?

The only reason I bring it up is because I've never had this degree of wear within 3-4 months. I've tried an expansive array of shoes with no such wear in such a short time.

I usually wear out outsoles under the left toe area before the toe guard gets too distressed. Here's the toe guard:

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I don't think sizing is an issue. My true size is between 11 and 11.5 and I've sized up to 11.5 for the 7s. The shoe seems to fit fine for me.

Oh I thought you meant the tip of the shoe right where your toes are.

I wear out my shoes in the exact same spot as well. Try getting a product called “shoe goo”. It’s a clear gel that dries and protects shoes from intense wear. It’s saved my bacon a number of times. It’s fairly cheap too at around $6. You can find it online or in stores like academy.

I'll look into it. Thanks for the idea!

You would apply a thin layer and let it dry, then repeat again for two layers of protection. It’s clear too so you can barely see it’s there.
