Asics Gel Resolution 6 vs 7

I've worn Asics Gel Resolution and the Speed series for around 10 years and loved these shoes. I tried Nike and Addias but found them to be too narrow for my size D width. I recently bought a new pair of Speed 3's and found them to be too narrow around the toes compared to the Speed 2. After playing with them twice 3 of my toe nails turned black. I never had that problem with the Speed 2. I was wondering if the Gel Resolution 7 is narrow in the toe like the Speed 3. If so I will be looking for a new shoe brand.

Speed 2 great shoe
Speed 3 too narrow in the toe
Gel Resolution 6 great shoe
Gel Resolution 7 ?????

Thanks for the input!

I liked the Gel resolution 5 and 6s quite a bit. I felt like they are some of the best value for money shoes one could get.

I got the Gel 7s in the same size as my 6s, and they immediately felt too small. I also didn't like how they made the toe area have more plastic instead of the cloth from the 6s. Didn't quite answer your question, but I felt like the 7s fit tighter than the 6s in general.

@David Thomas, first, love your restaurants. Spicy Chicken Sandwich (#6 on my local menus) is one of my favorites...

Second, have you tried the Nike Zoom Cage 2s? They're wider than the Vapors and Ballistecs. Also, TW recommends going down 1/2 a size, and I agree. I'm a 10 1/2 in Gel Res 6s, but a 10 in Zoom Cages.

Just a thought, although I've fully converted to Gel Resolution 6s at this point. Rotating between two different colorways now, and I have three more waiting in the wings...

I have had my 7s for just over a week and I, having no problems. Coming from the 6s, I was worried about fit, but though the new version is stiffer at first, they fit great and are working well. I have hard to fit feet; so far, so good.

Gel Resolution 7's upper is stiffer which probably needs a few hours of break in. The heel cup area is tighter which eliminates heel slippage that I experienced on the Gel Res 6. The lacing area near the top is also a different shape for a tighter lace up feel. Overall the Gel Res 7 is not exactly narrower, instead, parts of the shoe have been made tighter for a snug fit.

I'll say this, and hopefully this is just me and not the shoe - I went through 3 pairs of 6's, loved the shoe. I purchased the 7 a few months ago, really like it. However, I am experiencing heel pain like I did towards the end of the life of my 6's. You know when you reach the point where the shoe needs to be retired? I feel I am at that point already with the 7's and these have plenty of life left in them. Maybe it's just an issue with my heel, as I would be shocked if the support and cushioning are already toast on the 7's, but what I feel now is the exact same as I felt when the old 6's needed tossed ...

Still, imho, Nike Lunar Ballistec are the best shoes for hard courts.
And that's probably why they hiked the prices and you can't scoop them up easily on sale either- while you can do that with GR6 and 7.

You'd be hard pressed to get Nike Lunars bellow USD120, while GR6 and 7 can be found for USD70.

Used both and it is no competition. Lunar cushion bottoms out in a month and gel is much better. No surprise they are discontinuing the Lunars and Nadal will be endorsing cage 3.

I agree. I tried a pair of Lunar's and ditched them after a month.

But I did use both and I don't see how Lunar Ballistec cushions bottoms out for you in a month, when it doesn't for me, at least not before the thread/sole is gone in max 3 months (and I'm very heavy). Truth be told I replace all my stock insoles (Asiscs clay and Nike all court) for Dr. Scholl's active.

Nadal can endorse cage as much as he wants, the previous Nike Air Ballistec were worse than the Lunars, overall, as uppers (support and frail eyelets) plus some people reported the air bubbles bursting.

Everyone's experience is different. Loved the 4.3s, love the Resolution 7 and disliked the Lunars. Seems that the market has spoken with the Lunars being discontinued. Better stock up while you can.

Again I'm heavy are you? Using Dr. Scholl's insoles.

The market has spoken allright, that's why the Lunars are the most expensive shoe right now on the market retail and hard to find on sale.

The 4.3 were not as good/snug in the uppers, but maybe you have a wide foot? Also the the laces (eyelets) were very flimsy. Based on my experience with at least a dozen pairs. And I did stock on that model, thinking like you that Nadal must know something.

People also reported broken air bubbles.

Finally the Lunars are just a shoe in which you can move faster, be more nimble.

I am not stocking again anyhow :)

Hmmm, I wore GR6 in size 9 and zoom cage 2 in 9.5 and find zoom cage fit a bit too tight.

Did you buy the same size? I'm a size 8 in the GR6 and have about 4 pairs and love them. Thinking of getting a GR7 but will order online so want to know if the size is the same.

I was wearing 2E in New Balance 996v2 and I just tried on the Asics Gel Resolution 7. They are comfortably wide enough for me and I have a big ass bunion on my big toe. Much more comfortable to me than Adidas as well. I just loosen up the laces completely first, no problem with the Gel 7.

I just got the GR7 clay and overall I prefer them to GR6 clay, although I'm wondering if they have less frontal cushioning?

I got a bit of pains on the balls of my feet but:

1. I've been trying to be bouncier (starting with the split step)
2. The har thru/green clay/crushed rock is kind of wet now in Canada, whereas a couple of weeks I've been playing on red clay in Romania.
3. Although I lost a couple of kilos I'm still 100 kgs at 1.88 m (meaning 220 LBs at 6'2")
4. Playing at night is another minor factor, makes it harder to see/anticipate the ball.

I am using Dr Scholl's active insoles, some of the best one can find, imho, still that little pain happened on the balls of my feet....

I agree with the bellow and also GR7 feel lighter than my old GR6, or at least I can move/run faster in them:

One perennial bummer with Asics though is that the lining inside wears out pretty fast around the heel. It happened with GR6, we'll have to see for GR7 (never happened with Nike, nor Addidas).

Update (again on clay with clay shoes):

a) My one year old GR6 with the same Dr Scholl's active insoles felt worse in terms of frontal cushioning, but maybe that's not fair b/c I am comparing them to a brand new pair of GR7?
b) I got huge pain in the balls of my feet last night after playing 4 hours in GR7 (first 1.5 being singles against a kid on the University team, followed by adult doubles).

About the later, I'm thinking about buying new insoles to see if that helps (they are a couple of years old, although I got 2-3 pairs of said Dr Scholl's).

Someone else posted here maybe play with 2 pair of socks and no insoles?

Next time I'm trying again Nike Vapors clay version, or Cage clay if Nike was stupid enough not to make Ballistec's anymore :( I just don't trust Asics anymore while the Barricades are clunky!

Brand new insoles (Dr. Scholl's active) seem to help today with GR7 frontal support/cushioning, but that was just one friendly hit.
