Asics Gel-Resolution 7 vs New Balance 996 V3

My Asics Gel-Resolution 6 shoes are ready to be replaced. These were my first tennis shoes since I started playing again after 15 years and I really liked them.

Should I stick with the resolutions or should I consider buying the New Balance shoes? Could somebody tell me more about the New Balance 996 v3 shoes and how they compare to the resolutions?

Thanks in advance.

Get Gel Res 7's, so much cushion/comfort and no heel slip like the Gel Res 6. The outsoles are pretty durable I finally wore to the midsole on mine after about 150 hours of court time in 5 months.

If you liked the 6 you will probably like the 7. I like the upper for the 996 much better. Once it breaks in a little it fits like a glove. The 7 feels a bit firm and narrow but not considerably different from the 6.

The inside of my right shoe is all teared up and i'm looking for new shoes. Does somebody know when the new gel resolution 8 probably will appear?

When did the gel resolution 7 got released last year?

Towards the end of last year, so new reso probably not due till late 2018/early 2019

Thanks. Then I will probably buy another pair of resolution 7 soon. Also thinking about the Court FF but am afraid I will tear them to pieces sooner than the resolutions. Can somebody commemt about the durability of the Court FF vs Resolution 7 please. Thanks all.

Doesn’t exactly answer your question, but a while back I was also a GR6 user trying to decide between GR7 and New Balance. GR7 looked good but I was wary of the extra rubber instead of mesh on the top of the toe box—I need good ventilation.

So then I was deciding between the 996 and the 1296. I like the knit look of the 996, but it’s also heavier and more expensive, so I went with the 1296. It’s been great so far—comfortable, breathable, fairly quick, and very durable.

I still wear the GR6 to mow the lawn. It definitely has more support if that’s what you need.

Here is a pic of the 1296

Wow. This is exactly my story. For a second I thought I'd written and then forgotten this post.

I agree with naturallight. the 1296 makes a good GR6 replacement.

But, I find the 1296 just as supportive as the GR6 if I lace them up snugly. They don't have to be super tight, just snug around the forefoot.

However the midsole isn't a well cushioned. I miss that.

I thought the 1296's weren't as supportive as the GR6, and more importantly had noticeably less cushioning.

I am more curious as to how the 996V3 stacks up compared to the two.

I tried on a pair of 996V3s, but never played in them. Just in the store I found that the heel cushioning was pretty good, but forefoot cushioning was almost non-existent.

i'd really love to know how end up liking those vs. the gel 6. i have the gel 6 now and will need to find something else soon...
I really liked them! I will buy another pair of 7 soon also because the inside of my right shoe by the heel is pretty teared up. But yeah.. i played a lot. Probably happens to all shoes??

All with all I like them alot! Would recommend.

thanks for the feedback, i will probably try the 7's. if you play a lot, i think everyone gets certain spots that wear out. i always eventually end
up with a hole on the topside of my right shoe.

I picked up a pair of GR7s. Wearing GR6s now.
The 7 seems to fit a bit more snug and a big more "plush"? I haven't tried them on the court yet. I'm trying to break them in a bit wearing them around the house. I found the 6s needed a little break-in time as well. I expect the 7s will too?

I'll have to check the insoles. I felt the GR6 insoles were ridiculously thin. The 7s seems to have a bit more cushion stock. Will check the stock insoles vs my aftermarket ones.

When do you plan to use the 7s on the court?

Woah. That was a long time ago. I've tried a pair of Head and a few Wilsons. The Wilson Rush Pro 2.5 has nice cushioning. But somehow my toes are able to move around too much and I end up with toe nail lifting on my big toe. But the cushioning was nice to keep Plantar fasciitis in check. I've since tried a Nice Vapor series and really like it. I think it's the Vapor Lite. Good cushioning and also a bit thicker upper sole area to hold my feet in place without any hotspots. These are my favorites now.

My son still like ASICS. He likes how light they are and they seem to fit him just fine. But he's 19....
