Asics Gel Resolution 8

Looks nice on the first look. I assume there will be a more detailed review coming soon. But I guess I have enough info from the "first look" because I know the "Resolution 7".

They're here... ;)

will there be an all-white model? the Asics GR7 in white and silver is an undeniable classic... both regular sole and clay court sole

But the most important question for some is, how wide is the toe box compared to for example the Resolution 7s?

This is exactly what I want to know as well. GR7 was too narrow for me

I checked issuu and see a couple other color ways - L.E. Retro Toyko and white and silver. There's also a Novak green court FF.

this shoe looks like crazy good. WOW and looks like would perform crazy good as well.

Aesthetically I like the way these look better than the upcoming Nike Cage 4, but it seems like Nike is trying to go lighter and more efficient on the Cage 4 while the Gel Res 8 seems like it's going to be slightly heavier than the 7 but perhaps more stable and comfortable? going to be an interesting January with the comparisons.

heavier means more support

I don't know how it feels but it definitely looks absolutely gorgeous, especially the white / blue and red / blue models. I still have the 6th generation but I'm really looking forward to it now. Congrats Asics for what looks like a great shoe.

Any idea when the “wider version” being released?

I’m currently using the NB Lav but I’m starting to prefer a shoe with out the booty/sock like construction. I wear custom insoles and something with a tongue fits better.

Assuming the Lav and the Gel 8 are both the same high end shoe category.

I am in the same boat. Just switched to the 2E version of the New balance LAV. Liking the shoe so far, only used it twice. Coming from Gel resolution 7 and then Ubersonic 3, the LAV feels very comfy and the wide version is keeping my forefoot happy

Asics catalog shows Jan 1 as the availability date for the Wide in the Black/Blue color

How would you compare the Gel 7 and the Lav?

I had the GR7 for about 6 months wearing through the outsole and claimed another pair with the warranty. The GR7 was a bit narrow for me but since it was my first ever tennis shoe, I just wore it. I then tried the Ubersonic 3 and the durability was only about 3 months with 4-6 times play/week. Also I felt the cushioning was not enough for playing a lot of hours on the hard courts and I got some ankle pain eventually after about a year of use (went through 4 pairs of these in a year). The NB LAV in 2E seems very comfortable so far (only played twice with these shoes) and the cushioning is great, on par or even better than the GR7. Hopefully by the time I wear through the LAV the GR8 will be available in 2E to try.

I have. My heel doesn’t slip like it did in the 6 and 7. Much improved shoe. Nice cushioning too
Interesting! How's the court feel? Asics shoes have seemed a bit mushy in general compared to Adidas lately...

Can anyone compare to Adidas Solecourt Boost and/or the Ubersonic 3's?

Update!! Played in them yesterday after walking around for a day to break them in. They're a really solid shoe, great cushioning in heel and forefoot without feeling sloppy or mushy, excellent support, solid traction. It flexes really well with my foot without compromising stability or support.

Solecourt Boost is stiffer / more solid, has a bigger heel-toe drop, less forefoot cushioning, wider footprint, not as quick, similar traction.
Ubersonic 3 is quicker/lighter, not as much cushioning, less underfoot support, little more slippery traction.

For reference, I'm a 4.5/5.0, all-court + serve/volley, no sliding, don't toe drag. I wore superfeet blue in my Solecourt Boosts, though wouldn't be able to fit them into the Resolution 8's (the SCB is deeper in the heel). The max I'd fit in the Res 8's are a superfeet black, though I'm considering continuing to play with stock insoles for now and only putting in the superfeet black's when the stock insole gets shot.

Ordered another pair today!

Thanks for the update.
I have custom insoles for my flat feet so I better double check fitment.
To clarify, using a Superfeet insole leaves more space in the forefoot, though less space in the heel given that it causes the heel to ride higher in the shoe

Does the Gel Res suffer from the stiffer plastic over the toe box like previous models (and they seemed to make a clicking or popping sound)?

how is this shoe on giving back energy to your feet ? making you jump higher ? compared to Yonex or Adidas Boost ?

Whoever came up with the idea to make a 2EE width in the black/blue/gold colorway, thank yee thank yee thank yee. This size is perfect for my foot. Has the GR's ever had a wide version before? I will be buying more and hopefully they will make this 2EE width in other color ways? I haven't played with them yet but just walking around the house in them they feel great. I have a bunion on my left foot that is painful if my shoes are too narrow but there is no pain, at least not yet, with this 2EE wide shoe.

Did I say thanks........

lol the flesh-colored part.. in person it's more gold in color

the plastic on the toe box is a bit less stiff compared to the 7s (although it does loosen up over time) and seems to have a bit more ventilation
i never got any clicking sounds from the 7's.. the only asics that gave me clicking sounds were the FF2's

I got my first chance to play in these 2E wide shoes and they were great. I was worried that I might slip around in them a little but there was no sliding in them at all. Fit was perfect and no redness or blisters around the bunion area. No pain or discomfort at all. Really quite comfortable and it didn't seem like I was wearing new shoes.

For anyone needing a slightly wider fit these might be the answer. I really hope they offer this size in more color ways soon. Fingers crossed.

Just to nit pick, the laces are really thin and as another poster mentioned, they might break earlier than the thicker laces but that's an easy fix.

Hope this helps...

Just bought a pair.
i found them softer than the NB lav at the ball of the feet.
they seem to have more support than my court ff1and cushy-er
