Just switched over to the GR8 from the Vapor X - was not at all impressed with the lacing system and upper on the Vapor X compared to how good the 9.5 was. I went with the same size (EU44). Playing on clay, the laces became quite stiff and would not slide much through the eyelets any longer. Perhaps it's because the angle of the eyelet is more parallel to the ground on the VX compared to the V9.5 which seemed to match the curve of the tongue & foot. GR8 is comfortable so far and really impressed with the stability. Very happy with the purchase.
One question though - have any of you clay court players noticed that the GR8 seems to have a much deeper herringbone pattern on the sole than the Vapors or other clay shoes you've bought? When I am moving around, I actually hear "squeaks" from the shoes similar to what you would hear on a hard court, as the treads seem to penetrate right through the top soil and touch the hard base layers. Its a bit more difficult to slide properly as a consequence.
