Asics Gel Resolution 8

man, why does the clay version have to be white? At least this year they were blue which I didn't care for but better than white for sure........(n)

So one stylish, sporty colorway. Sunrise red/eclipse black. Gel Res 8 has had the most bland, old fashioned colorways for such a premium shoe. Anyone else feel this way?

Yep they seem to hit the spot with this shoe and even made it not look as bad design wise compared to the previous gel resolutions but some of the color schemes are just plain trash but some don't look that bad at all though

The shoe designers must not be actually playing tennis.... on clay.
White clay shoes look good for about 3 minutes.
I would have to bin any light color shoe on clay after one match.

Maybe the designers spent a lot of time in Toronto. Here, the majority of the clay courts are at whites-only clubs and to wear an all-white outfit but have red shoes or something doesn't quite match.

Yep, ultra bland. I mean they created such a great shoe and had the opportunity to set the style for this category of shoe but instead went blah. Even the GR7's had good colorways, what happened?

The GR7 had decent color-ways but the GR8 has the best design look-wise but just lack in some colors. They likely wanted to keep some of the most popular colors but I don't htink it's enough

Saw a real-world pic of that "French Blue" colorway in the catalogue and it looks incredibly sharp. Very deep blue and white with little pops of rust/dark brown in the back as well as the tabs that go over the laces. Very stealthy and classy, I thought.

I agree, I do like that colorway, but it seems like that is the only one that isn't white. I Don't understand why Asics is making so many white tennis shoes. I mean if you look at what is left out there in inventory for GR8s currently, the scraps that are left, are all the white colorways and they are left over for a reason, no one likes them! Maybe they sell in other countries, but in the US no one cares for them.

The all white requirement Wimbledon in understandable, where the matches are broadcast and the players and sponsored without a nick of green on their pristine shoes...
Is it red clay?
The members must be buying new shoes for every hitting session?
I've never been able to clean red clay off any color, let alone white!
I could see it work for doubles play, but for singles that's quite the ask.

Mainly green clay. Only one club has red clay (charges private club prices but not whites-only) and for sure white shoes would get soiled quickly. Even when I wore dark shoes, the red got everywhere.

When will these shoe companies realize that a lot of us play at night and like dark colored clothing - it would be nice to have dark shoe colorways to match. There will always be players looking for black colored shoes, black colored tennis bags etc.

Asics should make more wide Gel Resolution 8 colorways. I have a pair of the black/blue/cream color and have been waiting for the Mako Blue, Tokyo Gray LE, or anything else but white but have been disappointed.

I play at an all whites club in Vancouver and there is an exception for shoes and medical equipment (although both are recommended to be white). I don't think anyone specifically buys white shoes at the club because most people just roll their eyes at the all white ****'s at the club.

I try to wear black shoes on the clay as much as possible.

Life long 10.5 wearer - including Asics - I got these in 10.5 and they were too large with the heel slippage also - I used the heel lock hole on the shoes which was a partial solution - I was desperate for the shoes so did not return even though I should have -

Recently acquired these in 10s and they are perfect. So as others said, I would also urge all to go 1/2 size down from the usual. At least it worked for me.
This is exactly what I did. Everyday 10.5 wearer wearing a size 10 in these. I really love this shoe after the initial break in. Super stable, comfy and locked in. Maybe even better that the FF2.

Hi from Spain! I have just bought a pair of Gel Resolution 8. They feel really comfortable as always but im having a very annoying issue.

The upper material bends on each step creating some kind of fold. When the fold "stretches" at the end of the step, always sounds like a "pop", like a squeaky noise.

Does anybody had that problem? It only happens in my left foot. I took them to the store and they were very nice. They told me to play a couple of times to see if its a break-in issue.
Im thinking in changing them for the Gel Bela 7 (very popular in Spain due to Padel, which is like mini-tennis with walls)

Any suggestion? I really love the GR8 but that noise and uncomfortable folding is driving me nuts.

Thank you!

This is a picture of what im telling .

I have this issue in my new Tokyos that have not been fully broken in but not in the all white that I have played 20 hours in.

Bought a pair of clay GR8 (black/white/blue) from Asics's website due to Black Friday sale. First time wearing Asics (Barricade 2 x 2 -> hiatus from tennis -> Zoom Vapour 9 -> Ubersonic 3). Would have bought the Court FF2 instead but all my sizes were out of stock. Look forward to trying out my new kicks.
Let us know what you think. Shoes are very subjective, but I've tried everything and I'm down to wearing only Asics now (GR8 and FF2).

I don't recall the color I bought for my gel res 7, but it was essentially safety yellow. Didn't love the color, but it was bright and cheaper than the others. I also had a red pair that was okay. I hope there will be brighter colorways towards spring and summer.

A clay version in this colorway wouldn't hurt either, but I think thats too much to ask........instead the went white, go figure!
There is a clay version in that colorway. So there are 2 clay versions. One in dark navy and the other is in white. Here is a picture of the outsole of the clay version in dark navy:

We have to wait 1-2 months...

That is the best news I have heard all day, was a little nervous not seeing it in the packet, but 1 to 2 months? Man, my current GR8 clays are flat need some new ones sooner than later!

It looks like the new GR8s are now up on most of the tennis sites except for TW for pre-order. They have varying availability dates, but one of them shows for 1/29/21 which I believe is probably the most likely one.

To be fair though just about every shoe company, and almost all retail companies for that matter, are experiencing severe supply chain issues

Agreed but Asics has been notoriously bad the past couple of years and it's seems like it's getting worse.

Have the French Blue version... pretty plush.
Had to take a leap of faith since the Adidas Barricades are no longer around and I also wanted to try something aside from the usual Adidas' and/or Nike's.

Would be interested in how you compare these two...

The Barricades were built like a tank... I had the 5, and the 7.. they lasted 5 years (probably more if I pushed them) on hard courts... I had to learn how NOT to toe-drag though.
They were heavy, less breathable... and needed a bit of break-in period but then again, I was after durability and they delivered.

As of the Asics GR8's, these are my first... they're plush, little break-in, they looked & felt heavy but light actually... they ride high though

got my first 2 sessions with the gr8;s (after getting them from a 6 month warranty). Love these shoes, already sliding in them, moving so fast. I'm only buying asics shoes from here on out.

Got my first pair of GR8s, great looking (grey and orange version) and very comfortable and stable.
Two complaints though: I'm usually a 11.5, got these at 11 and even half a size down it's a bit long in the toebox, at least as long as my GR7s size 12. Anybody felt that? MY GR6s were fine in 11.
My vapors 9.5 size 11 were borderline uncomfortable but so speedy and glovelike.
And the upper does a clicking sound while walking, my GR7s did that too, hope it goes away.

If I wear a size 10.5 in the GR7, what would be my size in the GR8?

I bought these in 10.5 and I find they more or less fit like the GR7s in which I was also a 10.5. I didn't get a chance to try them out in 11 which is what I have my Court FFs in and the majority of Barricades with the exception of the Barricades 7s aka the Novaks.

I've played for around 3 hrs in them and there's a bit of a toe jamming issue. No such thing in the Court FFs.

As far as the toe box being longer, the GR8s are definitely a bit longer than the GR7s and that is why most people say to go with a .5 size smaller, but I stayed with the same size I used with my GR7s and I have no issues. Because the GR8s are a little more tight in the midfoot I think going down a .5 size would be to small. Personally I like the longer toe box as it seems more comfortable to me, its just something you get used to as you wear it for a longer time.

As far as the clicking, it is normal with the GR8s and will go away in a week or two as the rubber on the top of the front foot stretches out. Same thing happened to the GR8s I bought last year and it goes away pretty quickly. I have a pair of the new clay French blue ones coming in today thankfully because my blue and red ones from last year are almost worn flat.
