I would like to see a picture of the insole in these, wide vs normal to see how much difference is really there throughout the length of the shoe.

So an all court player cannot use resolution 9s according to ASICS ? :-D….. specially this time around that they reduced weight and made them more stable/locked down.

My GR9 Wides came in the mail today!

My first impressions putting them on, the toebox was very roomy and comfortable for my 2E feet. The cushioning under the toes also felt very plush with the factory insole. The only drawbacks I might have, is the tongue has those elastic straps that keep it locked down in place, as well as the forefoot woven lace loops have zero give. Might to cut both of those issues out if it becomes a problem.

Just wearing them around the house on hardwood floors, I can tell that they are very responsive. Reminds me a lot like my Torneos. Just like the Diadoras, that responsiveness is NOT sacrificed when I throw in my custom orthotic insoles. I do have a little more room in the front, with my insoles and I think I can get away with going down a half a size if I want my orthotics locked in place. I also lose that under-toe plush feeling with my insoles.

I am almost through the toe of my SFX3 and I have one match on my Torneos (but they were meant as my casual shoe), but I am excited to get these on court.

Weight (Men Size 8.5 Wide): 14 oz
With custom orthotics: 15.2 oz

Also forgot to mention that I'm not really a fan of flat laces.

If anyone knows a good place to get 54" oval laces to match Asics' Steel Blue (last resort, Hazard Green), feel free to chime in.

I was able to try these last night and while they are not for me and will be going back, I think they will be quite popular. Thoughts:

- The upper material is way more supple. None of that folding/popping that would happen sometimes at the beginning of wearing the GR8s.
- The fit seems to me just slightly wider in the forefoot than the 8s, or maybe it's that the dynawall drops down on these 9s at the forefoot? Anyway, I did not feel as squeezed into the shoe at the sides as I would with the 8s.
- Step-in cushioning is great, shoes just feel comfy when you slip them on.
- Laces are better than before, though still not perfect and still too short for easy double-knotting.

My dealbreakers:
- Just like the 8s, I have this feeling with this shoe that my heel is lower than my forefoot. The angle does is My not conducive to effortlessly 'staying on the toes' and springing forward. Maybe a player with better footwork than me, who is naturally up on his toes all the time no matter what, won't notice this as much. But I like the slight assist. My other favorite shoes: Court FF2, Mizuno Exceed 4s and Speed FF2s, are all better at this. My replacement insoles made this 'rock' feel a bit better, but still noticeably worse than what I like.
- Just like the 8s, I have some heel slippage here. This was not as bad when I tried them with stock insoles, but still there. And then definitely there with my replacement insoles, which I really need to wear unless a shoe has unusually good arch support as I have a very high arch. The issue is also helped with some lock down lacing tweaks, but the Asics laces are short so this was quite difficult to do. For sure if I had this shoe permanently I would have to get longer replacement laces. I don't get why Asics so often seems to produce such quality shoes but skimp on the laces.

Otherwise, shoe performed as Gel Reses always do: outstanding stability side to side, especially awesome grip on clay. As I said I think these will be popular, and I really like the softer upper and more step-in comfort for my wider foot, but my personal preferences as well as the heel-slip thing will keep me in the Court FF2 (best for me overall) or even Speeds on some match days.

*Update: Heel cushioning just isn't working for me and that's ultimately the reason I'm getting rid of them. Definitely not getting another pair.

----------------------------
Adding my 2 cents here!

Context: These replace my Speed FFs. I stocked up on GP Turbos. I hate the Eclipsion 4s. Sent the Vapor Pro 2s back. Didn't play in the GR8 (but did briefly play in GR7)

* The footbed feels quite similar to the Speeds - they're very low to the ground with no sense of bouncy cushioning I get from a GP Turbo (yes, it's completely different modle and type of shoe, but that's what I'm used to). *edit: Also, either there's a drop in the forefoot or the heel is raised more, feels like it promotes the whole "forward-on-your-toes" stance without being intrusive.

* Like the Speed FFs, these are great out of the box. The fit seems better than the 8s which I never played in but tried on. No heel slippage for me - and I played in the 7s and could never lock them down tightly enough despite lacing techniques.

* No pain or sore feet. DynaWall didn't bother me. Felt very stable and I never doubted my footwork (I did have some hesitation while trying the VP2s)

* Traction is great for me - slips just ever so slightly in that good way - no toe jamming or internal foot slippage (got that from the VP2 and ended up with sore toe nails). And no exposed plastic shanks to catch the court and slip on like the Speeds.

* Love the extra padding on the tongue near the ankle, esepcially

* Uppers were supple and no pain points when the shoe bends.

Would I get another pair? Ask me again in 6 months.

Quick review - Gel 9's arrived yesterday and were on the court about 90 minutes later. I have a lot of history with the 8's, Nike's entire line, and also Diadora (B.Icon and others).

Compared to the 8's I found the fit to be better for me. Slightly wider in the toe box so had no rubbing. Comfortable right out of the box and they seem to have a bit more cushioning which is welcomed. It's not super plush like Turbos or even the B.Icon's, but just a touch more than the 8's. I had no foot pain after the match or this morning.

Gel Res generally give me heel slippage but always do heel lock lacing anyhow so it's a non issue. That said, I wish the laces were a few inches longer so will likely swap these out. Hard to double knot the shoes with the current length.

Overall, very happy with the purchase and will certainly be keeping them.

Good to know its a little wider in the toe box. Ordered both the regular and the wide knowing i will return one. I thought the 8's ran a little long and skinny. Is that the same case for the GR9? Thank you!

I have what I would consider a normal width foot and these definitely feel less long/skinny than the 8’s. Not by a lot, but enough to make a difference. I have another match later today and will report back if I notice a difference this time.

What size did you end up with, and how did it compare to the size you wore with Nikes?

I’ve been a long time Vapor 9.5 / X / Vapor Pro wearer in 9.5 and ordered the GR9 in 9.5 and 9. I have normal width, flat feet.

Got the 9.5 today and the fit feels good, sizing seems to be the exact same as my Nikes. Will be receiving the size 9s this week. I’m 99% sure the 9.5 is the right fit.

What's your opinion on the court ff in comparison to the speeds and the resolutions? I've been a gel res 6 and 7 user, loved them and had the same impressions as you with the 8s. The non-split sole and that angle you mentioned made me feel too grounded, harder to be on my toes. And heel slippage was eventually the deal-breaker for me. Went with the speeds and found them perfect. Closest thing I found to the vapor 9.5.
Never tried the court ff2s manly because they can be almost double the price as the speeds but have always been curious if I'm missing something. I find them better looking also.

OK, y'all... I've put about 5 good hitting sessions into the shoe. The heel cushioning and height is starting to bother me - a lot. I've played in Zoom Zeros with a drastic drop and those were fine. But I think that is ultimately drop and FlyteFoam are causing me chronic soreness days after tennis.

Guess they'll be up in the FS soon.

The Court FF2 is, for me, an awesome shoe. However if you're liking the Speeds (and liked the Nike Vapors) then I think maybe the Speeds would be a better option as the Court FF2s are wider than the Speeds, more of a stable truck (and great lockdown security), whereas the Speed is the F1 racecar (lighter, faster, but also not as stable feeling overall). The Court FF2s are way more natural in terms of that slope and helping to keep you on your toes, and also wider fitting, than the GR8s or GR9s. Personally I'm now wearing the Court FF2s for almost all training sessions but I have a pair of the Speeds I use either when I want something a bit lighter that day, or want to feel a bit more nimble/fast - while sacrificing some of that width I get from the Court FF2s for my wide foot. I also wear both of these shoes with replacement insoles.

I got the exact same size as my Nike's. That said, the previous iteration of Vapor Pro's (not the newly released ones) were way too narrow and crushed my toes. Never tried sizing up.

To me Gel Res 9 is narrower than Gel Res 8. Gel Res 9 has a little more cushion than Gel Res 8. Gel Res 9 doesn't have the thing where the side of the shoe folds in when your toes bend and the shoe folding in hurts the side of your foot - Gel Res 8 does that. Gel Res 9 is too narrow for me. Gel Res 8 was wide enough for me, but the folding in thing was too uncomfortable.

I agree with this. Got my pair last night. The upper felt much better. But it was too narrow for me. Will wait on the backordered GR9 wides..

Be sure to sign up for the notification when back in stock.

When I was itching to try the GR8 Wides, I received the notification my size was back in stock one night and I waited till morning to order. My size was already gone by then.

My ASICS Gel-Resolution 9 Wide came in today. There is a difference in width but I wouldn’t call it a generous wide. I’m wearing them around the house. So far the side of my feet aren’t being pinched by the Dinawall. I’ll see how they feel around the house before going on court with them. Too bad there’s no wide in Clay court tread.

After wearing the Gel-Resolution 9 wide I still can feel the Dynawall on my right foot which is a little wider than my left. My left feels good.

Took my GR9Ws out to the courts to hit with my 12yo son today. The width feels good and my feet didn't feel like the walls were caving in. The ride was a little harsh in orthotics though. It also felt like these shoes could use some break in. They didn't feel as heavy as my Torneos, but they also weren't as responsive with bounce. It was just casual hitting to include volleys. I'll have to continue to use these on the practice courts before a come to a full verdict. Until then, my Torneos will be my next go to shoe when my SFX are done. They are still more comfortable in all aspects for me.

Played one set in the GR9 wide. What a mistake. The Dynawall is pinching both feet with my right getting much worse of the effect because my right is slightly wider. Can’t wear these things and will never try again!!!!

That sucks! I feel like I have wide feet (though I got the regular width shoe) but the dynawall never presented an issue for me. I actually appreciated the DW when I was pulled out wide or when I had to do quick directional changes.

But then again I ended up with achy heels.

When I got done I had to take a couple of Advil. My feet are still sore. Will never wear ASICS again. They changed their last and fit. They’re not for my foot shape.

I was surprised I enjoyed the Speeds as much as I did. And I expected I'd have no cushion-issues with the Gel Res 9. *sigh* I might still give the Court FF 3 a go at some point down the line. I liked the Court FF2s.

A friend of mine that just got the Court FF3 claims that they are “snugger” fit than the court FF2. If you enjoyed the Solution Speed FF2, I’d stay with them.

I think it's probably more the upper feeling a bit stiffer on break in than the Court FF2. Although all in all I realized I prefer the lower ride of the Court FF2 so I sent back the FF3. As for the Gel Res, I have to say I'm in agreement with you (or my foot agrees with your foot) that the epic Gel Res series was always better (for my foot) pre-Dynawall.

I tried on the Court FF3s, they are a taaaad snugger than the Gel Res 9 for sure. I don't like the exposed plastic shank of the Speed FF2. It catches the court on occasion and I slide out of control

I disagree with his review. You can really feel the Dynawall and the way my foot is I found it very intrusive and hurt the sides of my foot.
I could see that being a problem for some and a benefit to others. I have a narrow/medium foot and they are great. Also more cushion than the 8. Hope you find something that works better for you! Currently rotating between the 9s and the Coco shoes. Like them both

Yeah, I’ve settled on wearing Diadora. I do have the ASICS Solution Speed FF 2 and I have no problems with width. It also doesn’t have the Dynawall. The Dynawall isn’t for my foot type. Having something rigid on the outside of the foot doesn’t work for me.

Update on my experience with the GelRes9s:
  • Super happy with them! These are my first paid of Asics tennis shoes and I now see why they have such a following.
  • Prior shows were Nike Vapor Pros (and the prior iterations - Vapor X, Vapor Tour 9.5), and the GelRes9s are so much better than the Vapor Pros.
  • Sizing: I wear a 9.5 in the Nikes, and the 9.5 was the right fit for me in the GelRes9s. Also tried a size 9, the length and width fit well but the shoe didn’t have enough volume, so it felt tight over the top of my foot.
  • I have 100% flat feet, but normal width and those shoes fit perfectly.
  • They have much better cushioning and support compared to the Vapor Pros (they feel like sandals compared to these) and the Dynawall is really great. Can feel it stopping my foot as I’m sliding.
  • No issues with the Dynawall making the shoe feel narrow or any pressure points on the side of my feet.
