Asics Gel Resolution X (10)

Gel res X colours better than the 9's like for like

I'll give them that

Plus the black sole black shoes contrast asics logo is something the 9 was missing (and 8's)

Black sole great for wet damp courts in the UK

They def have some nice colorways in the X. Trying to make up for the downgrade from the 9.

By over engineering

Also the lacing system in the X is terrible

Like why ditch the eyelets

The only good thing about the X is the 2 rows of lace holes so @innoVAShaun doesn't need to butcher his dynawrap and cut them out hahaha

I never cut out the Dynawrap on my 8s or 9s. Just unlaced, insert foot, relaced with oval laces.

Kiddo says the Gel Challenger 15 are just as good as GelRes9 and more comfortable.

FWIW he’s 15, varsity sophomore, and one of the hardest hitters in the city (pop 300,000). I’m talking real tennis here guys, hits with a couple local college players. So, I trust his assessment of the shoe.
So, the sole of the shoe is starting to wear and he’s starting to slide. So it’s good out of the gate but if you’re playing a couple hours most days, they aren’t lasting very long. August isn’t even over!

We got which shoes were wearing out too fast confused. That’s what we get for buying white shoes that look almost identical. Gel Challenger 15 are still going strong. My mistake.

It seems like it would be so easy to start designing the GR11, but in the meantime re-release the GR9.

Great idea! My big questions are 1) when will a new version come out; and 2) will it be more like the GR9 or still follow the X design?

I remembered this watching the US Open - Taylor Fritz is wearing GR9s painted to look like GRXs. He agrees with us!

Have a 2E/slightly wider foot - I use custom orthotics. Been hard to find shoes that fit my foot, and work for how much I sprint, etc. Weirdly I do not have a flat foot - something happens in shoes which makes me pronate more/harder to splay toes leading to shin and knee pain (no structural issues). This is the only 2E shoe that is wide enough to accommodate my foot w/ orthotic, and not destroy my pinky toes (CT Rally 2E killed me).

The issue with the Res 8/9 is that the orthotic raised my feet slightly, which led to heel slippage. This is slightly reduced in this model thanks to the raised part, but it's still there. Some have said that you can't do a runners knot, but you can do a variation of it. With a less maximal insole, like superfeet or something, there would be little to no heel slippage.

As some have noted this shoe is about a half size long, and the regular width is slightly wide as well.

Another thing to note, I hit for 30 minutes or so without using any corrective orthotic, and this is the first shoe that kept my arch intact and I had no pain. Something to consider.

Also, underfoot it's probably the most comfortable and springy shoe I've used. Definitely aids in and makes running and cutting easier as well.
The Runner's Knot is a great suggestion! I fortuitously discovered it in a random IG video. I use custom orthotics. Before the orthotics, I had severe tendinopathy in the Achilles. My podiatrist explained the most suspectible part of my Achilles was fraying which led to a visible knob. This is caused by having flat feet leading to the foot overpronating and putting significant strain on the Achilles. The orthotics correct the pronation, but I need to continue focus on strengthing my calf and gluts to push off instead of over relying on my quads. I am not a medical professional so please excuse me if my explanation is inexact or incomplete. Due to the orthotics, heel slippage does become an issue for me in most shoes. The Runner's Knot was great reducing heel slippage. If I had done the research and examined the GRX lacing system, I would have not bought the shoes. Overall, I feel like this iteration of the Gel Resolutions is a massive step backwards for me.

Previous shoe history (from more recent to earlier): (1) GR9, (2) GR8, (3) Vapor Cage 4, (4) Mizuno Wave Exceed 5 (returned), (5) Mizuno Wave Exceed 4, (6) Wilson Rush Pro 3.0, and (7) GR6.

It don't know what Asics means when they say increased stability to be honest. It is not as if the GR9 were high heels. I never sprained an ankle in GR8s or GR9s. I feel like the GRX force my feet to pronate even in an orthotic designed to correct for pronation. It is noticeably uncomfortable to take a low wide stance on serve returns for example. This is the first tennis shoe I have worn since receiving the orthotics where my Achilles pain returned. I do feel like something in the shoe rubs the base of my small toe in the left foot. It is something I commonly experienced with that weird plastic piece Wilson used to put on the Rush Pro 2.0 and 3.0 that extended from the outer part of the midsole to the toebox.

I had such a great experience with the GR8 and GR9 that I just did not due proper due diligence this time around. Anyone try the Mizuno Wave Exceed 6 shoes? I was a fan of the Wave Exceed 4... but I felt the same way about the 5s that I do about the GRX... someone tried to justify their existence at the shoe company by mucking up a good product. If you were a fan of the GR8/GR9 what are you moving to?

The GR9 is one of the most stable shoes ever. GRX is a classic example of trying to fix something that wasn't broken.

Hopefully they are at work designing GR11 and it will be more like the 9.

switched from my custom orthos to a slimmer otc one - it's been fine, no discerning difference i can tell. i am on my second pair of wave enforce 2s. would recommend though they can get a bit wiggly in the toe area if the laces aren't tied tightly.

I had my first couple sessions in a new pair of Wilson Rush Pro 4.5. It was a much more pleasurable experience than the GRX. No Dynalacing... No exaggerated Dynawall on the outside of the foot. I wear custom orthotics to correct for overpronation. The GRX actually forced my feet to pronate during tennis play... especially in a wide stance or pushing off. This was not an issue with RP4.5s. They were comfortable in a wide and low stance. I was disappointed that there were no double eyelets at the top of the lacing system. However, I was able to get a secure fit with my orthotics without cutting off the blood circulation to my foot. The heel slippage was negligible compared to the GRX. Good Traction. I just feel much more balanced pushing off in these shoes whereas I felt like the GRX force you to push off almost exclusively from the big toe and inside of my foot. I just felt more comfortable, confident, and mobile in these Wilson shoes.

I am still working on strengthening the entire leg and gluts to alleviate the strain/stress on my Achilles, but the discomfort after tennis is much less in the RP4.5s. I would say a better alternative to the GRX if you are using orthotics would be the Rush Pro 4.5s.

I bought 7 pairs of GR9s and 2 pairs of GR8s at nosebleed extortion prices on a website that starts with e and ends with bay, to be shipped from Hong Kong. If I get all of them, I’ll be set for years. I have no faith in Asics doing the right thing and canning the GRX. I think they, as all companies do, will try to save face and release a tweaked, but likely still disastrous, version of the GRX.

I tried on multiple sizes of the Gel Resolution X, and I have to say that the toebox was pretty strange for me. It's very pointy. My pinky toes were getting jammed big time while my big toes had about an inch of room in front of them. This was on an 8.5 2E and a 9 D. The shoe felt fine otherwise. The 9 2E might work, but I'm hesitant to order it just because the front of the shoe would be even further out from my big toes. Going to stick with my size 9 GP Challenge 1.

Big Discount??
Most shoe manufacturers have 20-30% off on the outgoing color eventually, so does GRX.
However, better indication is that they scored 2.9 stars by 100 reviewers, probably the most reviewed shoe on TW and one of the most popular they carry
They have just come out and are on bigger discounts than the gel res 9's had

You said eventually

These have gone on big discounts literally within a few months of coming out that isnt a good sign

+ they put the retail price up of them vs the 9

And price on discount is lower or the same as the 9's on discount when they should be about £10 more like for like at most

Shouldn't it be the other way round. Which ones wore out fast then?

Nosebleed lol

Couldn't you get them elsewhere

I have clarified my mistake, and in doing so have not made further errors. Gel Challenger 15 have not worn out and we have since purchased another pair.

Who knows wtf we received from the auction site.

So the gel challenger 15 durability is like the gel res 9's despite not being the gel res branded AHAR whatever it is called

No, I cannot compare the durability between the two. Differences in volume of play between freshman year and the old coach, summer, and sophomore year and a new coach who emphasizes fitness more make comparisons impossible.

The gel res 9 from auction site were garbage, had a bunch of Asian oriented labelling (shipped from Dubai), and didn’t last a month, VERY different from those acquired in the U.S.

Gel Challenger 15 are good enough he wanted to keep using them. So now we’ll have a pair for home and a pair he can keep at school.

I bought a pair of the Gel Challenger 15 based on input on this thread and other reviews stating that it’s the closest to the Gel Res 9. It’s the same outsole and it has the Dynawall but unfortunately didn’t click for me. It feels bulky and I don’t feel like I’m moving as gracefully and as fast as I would in the GR9. Ended up consigning the Challenger 15 to my Pickleball bag.
