Asics Gel Resolution X (10)

Black / White shoes lives matter. I don’t get companies the last 4-5 years….. each year they are giving us even less conservative PJs. What i ve noticed on asics site is that the ones who get out of stock faster are shoes based on color combos with black as a basic color….. white ones are the least favourite but instead they keep pushing it.
white you would think would be a staple though? I just picked up a pair of the all whites (doesn't clash with any outfit) IMO - haha

Just tried them on at the store, total no go for me from GR9, they basically feel like the Court FF3, chunky, it felt heavier holding it than the CFF3 there as well, almost too much cushion and lacks the feel of connection to the ground
They ruined the court ff with v3. I eventually moved on to the resolution, now it looks like they’ve ruined that too.
The fit of the 9s is perfect for me, they are stable yet very agile. Why change the shape to be like the court ff? Let people use the court ff if they prefer that fit.
It’s also odd to go in that direction given that so many pros play in the resolution 9 compared to the court ff 3.

My speculation is that this was always their vision, but the finished products swapped the silos the GR and FF were meant to occupy. It makes sense, in a way, b/c now they can "feature" and iterate on the dynawall as some premium stability tech. But at the same time, they are making an incredibly bold decision that's probably going to alienate customers of their best selling tennis shoe.

It also doesn’t help that the widest reaching reviews are all from those that have a vested interest in its success. Not to call out racquets and runners, but I got the impression he didn’t particularly like the update, but still ended up saying it was going to be his shoe of choice..

Valid point! When all the reviews drop on a single date it's a good indicator of a release embargo of paid sponsorships lol

I don’t know if that’s fair. Shoes are so personal that it’d be a little silly to call this a “bad” update. R&R noted some durability complaints people had about the 9s (I saw these on Reddit a lot) and identified how the 10s solve those issues. They’re just changing what they’re going for with the shoe. Some people will like that.

I don’t know if things are different in tennis world but in my industry embargoes definitely do not mean paid advertising

Don’t forget that the opinions here are a very niche subset of the wider audience. A lot of ppl don’t think about things that heavily.

“Oh new asics? Can’t get 9 any more I guess ill buy this one. They hurt my feet a little but they work for my once a week hit”
True. And TTW users actually represent a very small percentage of recreational tennis players. Many will trigger to buy just because of the model names, such as "Gel Resolutions", "Vapors" and "Barricades". They do not even bother to look at reviews from elsewhere.

I'll take your word for it and start there when I try stuff. I assumed that because I liked the low-to-the-ground feel the Speeds would end up a little too runner shoe-like for me. I can't remember what put me off of the Courts vs sticking with the Resolutions.
Probably Court FF3 will be a more sensible choice than Speed FF3 if you like the GR9.

Why are many of you GR9 users writing off the GR10 without trying it after reading a few reviews? With shoes, everyone’s feet are different and you need to try it yourself as your shoe likes and dislikes may be very different from reviewers or other users. I will get mine delivered next week and will see how it goes.

People are afraid of any minor change it seems... IMO they look worth a try and interesting (A lot of the pros have adopted to them so they can't be that bad)

to me it's the weight and that clunky feel that worries me. if they can make these improvements like the hybrid midtop without it feeling heavier than gr9 than ok but reviews have it weighing 40g heavier. of course i will try them on myself though when they come out.

A mid-top medial side is not a ''minor'' change. Ive been playing over 30 years and have never seen that before, also not exactly something I was wishing for.

@socallefty Looking forward to your review.
Just got delivered and it looks great in the ‘tiger’ colorway - black with orange. In comparing it with my GR9, length and front foot shape looks similar. Lacing is totally different (at a slight diagonal angle like the latest Barricade) and I am actually looking forward to checking it out as the GR9 is too sensitive for comfort in terms of how tight or loose you lace it. There is no last lace hole for a runner’s knot and I hope it means there is no heel slippage to worry about.

The two other noticeable differences are the higher medial side and the much more rigid-looking and slightly bigger dynawall on the outside. Just checking by hand, it doesn’t seem that much heavier or clunkier than the GR9. If you look at it from a few feet away across the room, it doesn’t look that different from the GR9 and you have to be close to see the differences - so same GR DNA.

I started wearing a new pair of GR9s just a week ago and so it might be a month before I check it out on court.

I’ve been wanting to move away from the GelRes 9. I’d like something that feels a little faster and has a little more room in the mid foot and toe box.

The added weight and 1/2 mid top are not appealing to me in the new model.

But chances are, I’ll end up back in the X as that seems to be my cycle with the Gel Res line as they are really good shoes.

All black is for whatever reason an uncommon thing for tennis cause tennis in some regards is still old fashioned in the “elegance” core. White shoes white socks white shorts.

Much like cycling where all black is not as cool as fresh white socks and clean white shoes

I wonder if no-show socks might be an issue and if you might need mini-crew at least with these shoes.

In terms of looks, the higher medial side is not very noticeable.

Only crew socks for me on the tennis court but still worry if there is a pressing feeling on the ankle that might be annoying.

Ill keep an open mind though and once they come out with some better colorways Ill probably cop. Still rotating through 6 pairs of GR9s so I have a little time to wait.

White is pretty popular in the uk due to wimbledon

People only seem to want white here lol

they probably stock way more whites and run out less.

Bright colors have always been an Asics thing, with their running background. That’s what I’ve thought anyway.
That said the women's white silver gel res 9's were plenty available end of 2023 on sale in the uk but then never came back in

Yet the men's version stayed available

Seems they switched it to a US only colourway for women couldn't get it anywhere else except maybe asia i think

Crazy. Every woman in the UK who plays tennis wants white! Not sure why they turned it into a US exclusive suddenly

It does seemed they listened on the feeback about the dynawrap being too tight so the extra row of lace holes means people can make it looser on top which is smart.

The higher inside medial side is for possibly complaints about rolled ankles

But that ruins the aesthetics so will be interesting what they do with the 11 in 2 years time

The women are wearing the new grX but I have not seen any men wearing them at AO yet. Arthur Fils, Lucas Pouille and Gauthier Onclin were all wearing gr9. curious to see what Berrettini and Fritz wear today since berrettini has been seen with the black grX
